New ticket pricing basics

I have never ordered tickets form UC but I am considering ordering them today because of the price change. Is the ticket basically the same as the ticket you purchase from WDW? Also, if I decided to upgrade that ticket to a waterpark or park hopper once I arrive at WDW, would I have any problems? Thanks for any info.
The ticket is exactly the same MYW ticket as Disney sells at their ticket booths. To increase Disney's range of potential ticket purchasers, Disney wholesales a quantity of MYW tickets to third party resellers, and those third parties market the tickets on their own, with their own mark-up. Undercover Tourist is where most people find the best discount price on Disney MYW tickets, and they have top-rated service. I bought mine just 2 weeks ago from UCT when they announced Disney's imminent price increase.

Since your UCT ticket is priced at a discount, you can keep that discount IF you use your ticket first to enter a theme park before doing your upgrade. Actually using your ticket elevates its worth to Disney's current gate price value, so you are only paying for the upgrade. If you were to upgrade before using your ticket, you'd owe for the upgrade and the discount you received.

Thanks! I think I may go ahead and order today.

I want to make sure I understand and do the upgrade correctly so I thought I should ask. I have an 8-Day Park Hopper as part of our Disney package for our upcoming trip and I want to upgrade it to an AP.

Do I still need to use my 8-Day at least once before upgrading or is that only for tickets bought from 3rd parties at a discount?

Thanks for your help, I want to make sure I do this right!! :thumbsup2

This is where it gets really confusing. If you bought the ticket as part of a package from Disney, it is considered a third party ticket since the package division buys the tickets from the parks division. So, yes, you should use the ticket first.

Thanks so much for your reply!! :thanks: I'll make sure I use it first...

So, I bought a five day ticket directly from Disney, along with a room reservation, and I now want to add a day to make it s six day ticket.

Will I just pay for the additional day (approx $12)? Or will I have to pay for the price incruease on all days, too?

I want to do this in advance, so I can schedule FP+s. For this day, which will be adding to the beginning of the trip.

Disney usually increases your overall ticket to the new ticket pricing when you make a change. I would call instead of doing this online. Have the package total price in front of you. Based on the new total after adding one day (still $10.65), you should be able to figure out if your overall tickets were raised in price. I say to call because when you're speaking with someone, you might be able to get some Pixie Dust in this situation (no promises).

I had no idea that waterparks were so expensive. Our New Braunfels Schlitterbahn is just $33. :headache:

Well, you have to consider that the $64 per ticket for water parks is for the whole stay. So if you are staying 7 nights, and went every day, it's only about $9/day.

If you are purchasing a single day water park ticket, then yeah, it is pricey at $58.

Are they still using the old ticket prices for packages? I just priced out our package for late Sept and it's exactly the same as it was weeks ago.

If you bought the ticket from Disney and not as part of a package, only the price you paid will be applied towards the upgrade; the ticket price will not be "bridged." So, you'll (most likely) be stuck paying the increased price.

I bought the tickets at the same time that I purchased on-site lodging .... Is this a package?

I just called and they only charged me $10 (and change ) per ticket to add a sixth day...
I had purchased my tickets and accomdations together back in January directly from Disney

Just thought of another question, please forgive me!!
When I upgrade my 8-Day Park Hopper to an AP does that mean I'll have to use a plastic card the rest of our trip or can the AP be placed on my Magic Band?

Thanks!!

Nothing is "on" the magic band. The new ticket will be linked to your account and accessible via your magic band, just like any other ticket.

Tickets are there now.
Yes, I found the 5 and 10 hoppers I needed early this morning but the '6 day hopper water parks fun and more no expiration' wasn't there at that time, only the 5 and 7 day hoppers wpf and more non exp, but luckily I checked an hour ago and they are there now!! Woo how! Saved 73 dollars off upgrading to an AP! So now I'm happy!! I haven't seen the new AP price yet but very glad to have saved the $73!!

As PP wrote, your AP info will be added to your MDE account, and work thru your MagicBand. AP holders have posted here about also receiving a separate card when upgrading to AP. This card is asked for by the CM when getting a purchase discount or meal discount.

Thanks supersnoop and POOHsie for your replies!! Glad I'll still be able to use my cute new Minnie Mouse magic band.

I will definitely be okay with accepting the card used for discounts!! :goodvibes

Thanks again!!
Carla
