new thread--How did you like Narnia?

LOVED IT! It exceeded my expectations. Very true to the novel, but condensed of course for time. Visually stunning. And, DEFINITELY, too scary for little ones. There were three and four year olds in our theater, crying.

We watched it in Philadelphia. Theater about 2/3 full. No security checks or anything. There were people there who had gotten tickets as part of a church group, not many seemed to have the Disney VISA email.

Absolutely LOVED it -- visually great - terrific story -- very moving.

A bit intense for young kids (battle scenes especially).

I didn't read your whole post ( we leave for Disney in 12 hours) -- but I was in Philly as well! In the bathroom afterwards I almost asked is anyone was from DIS.....

We loved it too! Our theater (San Diego) was about 1/2 full and they did do a security check at the door to the theater. Saw several people walking back out carrying cameras, I guess they didn't know. Not everyone at our theater had the e-mail, some had large tickets that had "Walt Disney Co." on the back. They also checked out bags and waved around a hand-held metal detector.

Loved it so much. Better than the play I saw a long time ago at the Dallas Childrens Theatre.

My 3year old dd loved it (shes not afraid of anything, of course we are referring to a kid that LOVES Jurassic Park Movies and Dinosaurs) and the movie kept everyones attention.

That's funny! We didn't use the bathroom. Have a GREAT vacation. We just got back. I had to ask a girlfriend to email for the Narnia tickets for me because I was in WDW on the Monday when they were offered.

Did you get a sense for how the other audience members were there? Many seemed to have a ticket that said "Disney Movie" or something like that. I did not seem like many people were there with the VISA deal.

How about that preview for Pirates of the Caribbean? Didn't it look exciting?

I'm so excited to see this! I loved the BBC version, when I was a kid and saw it in school!
Our church Is having a private showing on Thursday (although only a day early), but otherwise we have to wait till Friday around here to see it. Which is what we will do. We always see movies before 5pm, so to get the matinee price.
Thanks for the review, although it's making me more eager to have to wait!

We really enjoyed it! Thought the casting was excellent! I think my 7 y/o DD would be ok with it (we wanted to see it before her, so she stayed home). There was no gore, so the PG rating was accurate.

We were in Phx & they did the security check with the wand, inspected your purse and reviewed the rules about recording devices about 10 times. (And had at least 2 security people in the theater watching us.) The theater was only about 2/3 full - much less people than I expected. We didn't get any previews though...

My DH, DS, sister and DS's friend went and they all loved it. They came home and told me this was a definite to own when it came out on dvd.

It was awesome! My kids loved it. Kept my 4 year old enthralled for the entire thing -- not even a trip to the bathroom. The effects, etc. were wonderful -- so close to the book. It was great!

WOW what a great movie!!!! In Grand Rapids Michigan, this is the first movie they did not wand or check us!! Nobody at the door to the theater!! It also appeared that there were people not from Disney Visa!! A lot of elderly people!! Our 8 and 10 year olds loved it also! PG rating was good, no problems with the kids! That is a movie I would pay to see again and even buy it when it came out on DVD!!!

We saw it in NC. The theater was very full, but not crowded. They did security checks. No one could take in a camera phone. A local Christian radio station had also given away tickets.

Loved it!! Hope everyone stayed for the credits.

It was great! 3 year old (almost 4) DS loved it. I tried to cover his eyes during the battle scene but he was transfixed. He didn't make any noise the whole movie, not even 1 whimper!

I've never heard of being "checked" before going into a movie theater. Is this something new? Do they use a metal detector? I have an artificial hip and knees and always set off the metal detector at the airport. Would that present a problem? Is this just something to do with this particular movie, or are movie theaters doing this now? BTW, last we were in a movie theater was Thanksgiving, no security checks.

Our family really enjoyed Narnia. Our boys 9 & 8 said it was fantastic and even DH had a good time.

Wonderful story that kept the kids attention, and beautiful scenery/graphics.

Our theatre in Honolulu was packed and we had to undergo the security wand. Speaker also announced the use of night goggles to check for any recording devices .

I think the security checks are because this is a pre-view (the movie is not being released until Dec 9) and it is to keep people from bringing in recording devices and making pirate copies of it.

Probably no security checks after December 9.

Disney marketed to both Christian and secular audiences.

C.S. Lewis was a Christian and the book has a strong Christian allegory (allusion? reference? I can't remember the term!). Aslan is representative of Jesus, etc. What's nice though is that it's not over the top. It's not specifically a Christian movie; it's there if you are interested in that aspect and if you're not into that, you can still enjoy the book (and the movie I assume, haven't seen it.)

It's pretty much a staple in many Christian households.

I think Disney did a good job of not marketing specifically to Christian families. They stayed true to the book which isn't written that way. If you didn't know about the author, I don't think you would make the connection. I read the book in the 4th grade and didn't see the connection until 2 months ago. In the movie, Disney tended to stress the importance of families sticking together and standing up for each other. Really well done!

I loved the movie. Brings back so many memories of reading the books when I was young. I want to re-read them all now. My son, who has never read any of the books, also loved it. He just thought it was a great fanatasy tale.

I watched it knowing that it had Christian undertones and was extremely touched at times. I agree that it is not shoved in your face. But if you know to look for it, you can see so many similarities between Aslan and Jesus.
