It's things like this that prove Disney's parks will continue to flourish and become more technologically wonderful every time a new one is created

OOOoooooooooooo!!

It works with both REAL and Artificial plants....

I'm suddenly picturing Pandora being able to change it's lighting based upon contact with the plants. This could be VERY VERY cool!

I would imagine that in terms of guest interactivity it would just be with artificial, otherwise they'd be replacing the plants every day... however any real plants in the mix would be awesome to see in a rainstorm.

I just saw this article, and was going to post about it, but nightshaderose beat me to it. Even though I haven't seen Avatar, I wondered the same thing...if this technology was for this promised addition to AK. Like many others, I'm not much interested in Avatarland, but would check it out if it used interesting technology such as this.

I'm curious...does anyone know if there are any connections between WDI and Disney Research, or are we just making hopeful assumptions?

Don't quote me on this, but I think organizationally at least, Disney Research is under the Imagineering umbrella. I know Disney Research has a presence in Pittsburgh due to past articles I've seen regarding their technologies, and I've seen numerous postings for Imagineering jobs on Disney's site in Pittsburgh.

Beyond that, I don't know if Imagineering is split up into different groups, such as Park Construction, Parks and Resorts Creative, and Other Technology R&D.... and how much communication and coordination there is between the different groups.

Un-freakin'-believable! I think Disney needs to be working on the cure for cancer. If anyone can do it, those imagineers can.
