New Standby Line Idea (comments, anyone?)

Oops, I forgot that with an expected 20 minute or less wait time, there would be no need for a come back time for DAS guests so no come back times would be issued.

Fastpass would not be discontinued.

Yes, this thread is going as expected. All points of view are welcomed.

Except larryz wrecked my thread with a competing topic,
How about this: give everyone who enters the park a "shotgun start" map and time to begin their programmed series of rides

Sorry but it sounds like a ridiculous idea, and way to complicated. I can see so many things wrong with this scenario.
immediately following to become ambiguous. (Which scenario?)

I think everyone is missing the fun and spontaneity that this could bring to the parks.

So let's say a guest enters door #1. A CM will then be there to offer guests the ability to stay in door # 1 for a chance to advance through the queue or trade in door # 1 for either a new door or a box (that can be brought in by a character for the added excitement). The box could contain an immediate bump to the front of the line, a Mickey Bar, a t-shirt, a special seat for fireworks, socks, a bounceback offer or absolutely nothing!

While without DAS times this becomes more realistic, it would still create a potential scenario where people could dedicate their entire day to a single ride and never get on. Or be left spending 8 hours sitting around the land pavilion before getting on Soarin'.
Given a situation where there were enough rides with large enough capacity that 20-25 minutes was already the max wait, something like this could be interesting but would be a great way to really anger people who like sticking to a schedule.

imthegoose's suggestion sounds like a great way to start the tower of terror ride, because most of the people would feel like they were in a twilight zone style hell.

You've won... A NEW CAR!!! pixiedust:

The net result is that people would wait 20 minutes in "unofficial lines" just to get into the "official" 20 minute line, netting them a wait of 40 minutes. So what has this accomplished? Sort of like Rope Drop. People wait 40 minutes at the turnstile to be the first person to get to a ride so that they can have a 2 minute wait time. But did they wait 2 minutes for the ride--or 42 minutes? (Of course, RD has its advantages of keeping you ahead of the crowd curve, so the 40 minute wait at the turnstile is worth it.) Your proposal would create a series of "mini Rope Drops" where people hang out is an unorganized manner, hovering, waiting for their turn to join the real line.

Stand by lines are one of the few things left in a WDW vacation that actually allow for spontaneity. To get the room category or discount you want, the meals you want, the special events you want, the ride reservations you want: you have to jump on them months and months ahead.

But with stand by lines, you can walk by (or look it up on the app), see the estimated wait time and decide, "Let's go for it." or "That's too long, let's come back later." You can also happen on an unexpectedly short wait as you walk by an attraction, and jump in line. Why would we want to muck up one of the only spontaneous things left?

How about a system where Disney posts the expected wait time of the rides someplace public, or even on an app of some kind, and people can use that info to decide whether they want to wait in that size line?

That's a GREAT idea -- I wish they'd do that.

oh...wait...

I think this idea would create a lot of inequity. I like knowing that once I enter a line, I will ride after everyone in front of me. And, everyone who comes after me will ride after me. I wait my turn, they wait their turn. I wouldn't like the idea of standing around waiting to get into a queue and knowing that other people who waited less time got in first. Perhaps their door is less crowded, they stood around for two minutes and got in. You'd also have people dodging in front of others or blatantly pushing forward to make it before the door closed. It would be a mess! I would rather have the freedom to join the end of any line and wait my turn.

They have a virtual queue ("line-less queue") at Dumbo.
