New SSR Murphy beds being scrutinized?

I hate to spread rumors and Disney isn’t talking. But this time around, the problem may have originated at SSR. Everything I’m hearing from Riviera is that the pull downs were quickly cleared for use.
As I understand it, it was two different issues at RIV. The issue with the twin size was quickly cleared. The issue with the sofa one came a few days later. We used both beds at RIV between the twin being cleared and the issue appearing with the sofa bed.

I wish that we had more info on the incident with the sofa bed opening on the person sitting on the sofa. There just seems like there is more to it. Those sofa Murphy beds take some effort to open up....

It’s an internet discussion board.

I wouldn’t report it as “news”. But in the interest of helping a fellow poster, I shared what I have heard with appropriate disclaimers.
I posted screenshots of the news I had. I got them from a FB group but couldn’t link and did not feel it appropriate to share the real life name of the FB group member. My info is apparently suspect to some members on this board, but I guess we’ll just accept yours with absolutely no idea from whence it came.

I used to trust DIS, especially the DVC section, explicitly. Now it has adapted the same tone and good vibes only feel as other social media platforms. I used to recommend this site for people as a solid, no pixie dust place for real DVC news. Now we’ve got posters comparing RR std view to BWV preferred to prove RR is a better deal, and insinuations that the SSR bed issue is in no way connected to RR problems, but of course the problems started at bottom-dwelling cheap points SSR.
My completely fact-less opinion? They checked all the RR rooms right away, I mean they are trying to SELL it, but SSR can wait. It’s a minority of rooms (refurbed only) and over Christmas (nightmare to get anyone in to check them all) and they aren’t selling it, so it can wait.

I realize now that I have started getting info off of FB first and this site has become secondary and quite honestly even though I only lurk on that other web site, I glean more info there. I’m out. I’ll spend my DIS time on other boards.

I see no post from you on this thread and—again—made it clear I wasn’t entirely confident in what I posted. I didn’t even remotely imply that people should “just accept” what I wrote.

If you have more reliable sources with insight to exactly what happened, by all means share.

Facebook isn't the greatest at being factual either. Currently one of them is insisting connecting rooms are always guaranteed, because they were told so over the phone. And nothing is going to convince them otherwise. Someone even telling them they have been denied them doesn't even seem to be doing any good.

You have to take everything with a grain of salt, and do your own research.

We checked in to RIV last night and my kids spent the night on a very comfortable queen Murphy bed that was somewhat difficult to open. There is no way that sitting on *our* sofa would have dislodged the bed. Now whether it was always like that, or had been adjusted recently, I don’t know. But no issues with the beds in our 1br.

Ours was that way the 20-22 of December. It took quite a bit to get it open.......

We were at SSR over Christmas in one of the new rooms with Murphy beds. Around 9PM housekeeping came pounding on the door. 2 people and man and woman. They were super insistent they needed to come in. They took the mattress off the large Murphy bed and put on floor. They taped a piece of paper saying dont use.

I thought it was the small ones under the TV that were the problem but they said it was fine to use.

On this trip we had a 1 RM on our reservation but when we checked in they told up we were upgraded to a 2 BR. All in all, not a big deal with the beds so happy to get the upgrade. We called it a Disney Miracle (we have never been upgraded before).

I agree that if I could not be moved someplace that had at least a sofa bed, and was forced to use an air mattress or the bed mattress on the floor, I’d want something too,

I would probably opt for gift cards though! instead of points back!
Right some people staying there may have booked a cash reservation.

Just got home from SSR. Was in a non-renovated studio for eight nights.

I have no clue when the decision was made that no one could use the pull down queen in the renovated rooms. However, I did notice some very intense discussions at the front desk. Ie. Overly long - discussing compensation options etc. Multiple managers coming out for one guest (or seemed to me both were managers). There were multiple ones going on on my last day in particular. One notices when you're a long time in line. Insert smile. Obviously I am.making assumptions but reading this and hearing enough at the front desk makes me think *hmmmm*.

Off topic, I was in two rooms at SSR. Both of them were spotless. Service for me was beyond exceptional. I can't even express how wonderful every staff member was that I came in contact with during my stay.

I have owned SSR practically since day one. My stay swayed me to book there more often ( I am an assassin on the website and even when we were call in only, well I had good luck). And I fell in love with The Grandstand. That first building there is a standard steal! Shhhhh. :drinking1

I may be misunderstanding the tone of this comment, and you may want to re-phrase your comment in the light of any misunderstood element, but your remark suggests to me that you are calling SSR owners "bottom feeders". That would be beyond rude.

I am pretty sure that she is being sarcastic in her comment about SSR........and what people like to say about owners there. Wow!

That first building is what I call winning the SSR lottery location, which I did this past April.

Since I am the one of the people.maybe only one..who posted comparing RIV SV to BWV pool, let me clarify for you why that statement was made, I did so to dispute the claim that staying at RIV would always cost you a substantial more..some posted double.

I simple shared examples that one can STAY at RIV for a comparable amount of pointsdepending on what is booked. No one, including me, claimed this made it better, but that For people making choices on where to buy, it’s wrong to tell them that RIV is so high that you will have to always spend more.

I realize this is off topic but wanted to address your comment.

I thought Disney tests out new resorts with discounts to CMs. I am very surprised this is happening. Very disappointing.

Having people stay doesn’t mean they’ll find a problem. If this is happening to only some beds, thr unproblematic beds won’t have issues.

I’m sure there are still washing machines at AKV with the hot/cold water mixup. (First they thought it was one problem and slowly fixed that, then realized it was a different problem and have come by to fix the washers *that still have problems*). Finding that problem means that:
1 the person has to wash clothes
2 they have to use cold
3 they have to check to make sure it’s cold water coming out
4 if they got a bad washer and check at the right time to feel hot water coming out during a cold wash
5 they also have to be the type to tell someone.

6 they have to tell the right person and that department has to fix it

That’s a LOT of things that have to happen to get something fixed.

and insinuations that the SSR bed issue is in no way connected to RR problems, but of course the problems started at bottom-dwelling cheap points SSR.

I’m not sure what thread your reading, but I think you’re going a little out there.

I saw someone wondering. That’s not an insinuation and it’s not an insult against SSR.

I think she’s paraphrasing what she thinks she’s hearing from others. A form of sarcasm. Alas, sarcasm isn’t allowed on the Dis; it’s even in the rules, so it can be weird to encounter it here. (Which isn’t sarcastic; I’m actually always surprised to see it here)

Just checked in to our renovated studio and the Murphy wall beds have stickers saying not to use them. Hearing stories of inflatable mattresses and mattresses on the floor taking up the living space isn’t an acceptable solution and have no idea what kind of solution to ask for.

You can ask for a non-refurbished room.

That’s true. In a preferred area as that’s what we’ve paid for. Thanks!

If they are not able to move you...which if booked up they may not...then I’d ask for some points back if forced to use the air mattress or monetary compensation. For me, I’d take $200 if I had to sleep on one or my kids did. But that’s me.
