I know that Soarin is getting updated and will have a new movie, which is first premiering in Shanghai. However, will this new movie stick with the original California theme or are we looking at a new film entirely? I've always ridden the DLR Soarin and although the ride footage got dated, I still loved it and will be sad if it completely loses that theming. :(

Expectation is a completely new movie which is being referred to as "Horizon" and it will have a global theme.

zooming around the world?
Over the mountain tops? Great wall of China? Top of the Eiffel Tower ? Oceans galore ?
I wonder

I wish they did the East Coast - like they did the West coast of the USA

I believe Shanghai is getting a global version, WDW a US version (that is not strictly CA).

new movie means i will have to open my eyes... at least the first ride...lol

Can't wait... The Soarin' movie has been dated practically since it was released.

I think a world movie would be a pretty darned good fit in Epcot . . .. considering the proximity of the World Showcase . . . What ever the new movie shows, I HOPE HOPE HOPE they go to digital projection so there are no more dust bunnies on the film. I wouldn't mind 3D either . .. . heck, they could go all out, and do something similar to what they've done with star tours, so every ride is a bit different!

I hope the music (composed by the late, great Jerry Goldsmith) isn't replaced. It's one of my favorite Disney melodies in existence!! Goldsmith was a genius.

I agree. I love the music, I still get goosebumps when I hear it.

FWIW, the persistent rumor at DLR is that they will clean up the traditional California footage and show that on one side of the ride, and show a new movie (not sure if it is the world or USA one - I keep hearing the world one) in the other theater. So perhaps Soarin Epcot could have two movies as well?

That would be a happy medium. So would there be two different queue lines then or would you randomly be assigned to a movie while in line?

I'm really psyched about this news! I hope Florida does get the world version....that sounds awesome!!

That is a bit down the road but I suspect it would have two queues. For those who have been on Soarin at DCA and Epcot, it seems like it would be easier to implement separate queues at DCA than at Epcot. Not sure how that would work at Epcot. Even so, I would have to imagine that guests would be given a choice either before entering the queue or once they approach the split to the two theaters.

;)

Construction has started on new theaters for Soarin, will they have multiple films showing,I have no idea but a new film has to be coming or these new theaters wouldn't be getting built.

Just a small thing about the film being made Digital there are currently a few problems wit that as the film is shot in Imax and shown on an imax dome screen as of right now there is not a decent digital projector that can show an imax movie on that screen so we may be stuck with film for awhile still. One of the big problems with a digital projector is the light source is a lot duller then with a film projector and it had difficulty projecting true black another thing is size of the screen an imax screen is 10 times the size of a regular screen and the film they use is pecly made 70 mm film tipped on its side. Because of it the size of the film ends up being very large so the projector is about the size of a small car and the film flows through it in a rolling loop and is held in place in front of the la,p by vacuum pressure from time to time dust and dirt does get on it just like any other film however it usually gets cleaned as it rolls through the projector.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IMAX , http://www.reddit.com/r/movies/comments/2lfzlo/does_seeing_a_movie_in_70mm_imax_vs_regular_imax/ , http://www.slashfilm.com/qa-imax-theatre-real-imax-liemax/
