New snorkel mask

i remember seeing a thread about this some time ago. something about toothpaste and a product named No Fog? Can someone help me...where can i buy No Fog?

If you go to any dive shop they should have it. I think the one we used was called bullfrog. The toothpaste is to clean off any of the sealent left behind. The no fog stuff does just that - helps the mask from fogging up. We used it on our May cruise and it worked great!

If you don't have a dive shop by you and are getting down to the port a day or two before go to Ron Jon's I'm sure they'll have it.

You need to scrub the lense inside and out with toothpaste or Soft Scrub and your finger, nothing with bristles. The removes any chemicals used to make the lense and will help you see clearer. we will be getting in the day of the cruise. i wonder if a sporting goods store here in denver would carry no fog..i will look into it...

If you can't find anti fog- don't fret. Just spit into your mask, rub around and rinse in the ocean. Works great!

The spit thing only works as long as you don't get any saltwater in your mouth. Once you do, forget it. The antifog stuff will last the entire time you're snorkeling. Trust me, you want to find this stuff. Just look in the phone book for the local scuba stores, they'll probably have it.

LOL!! "Once you do" should happen about a minute after you jump in (or less). It seems to happen a lot.

My DD, who is a swimmer, uses an anti-fog solution that you can purchase at any sporting goods store in the water sports department.

should have no fog. They all (at least here on the OTHER side of the Rockies) sell it although some of it is quite expensive and some of it doesnt work very well. A few of the de-foggers we have used as divers that work the best and dont sting our eyes were either
1. Diver's Best! Mask Defogger. It is kind of pricey at 6 dollars an ounce (usually) but it seemed to work the best for us. It looks like gross slime or as the dive operator we bought it from (and also Rodale's scuba reviews) said "smashed guppies" and it can be a little hard to get out of the bottle but it is excellent and will usually last for at least 3 dives. If you have problems getting it out try stepping on it.

2. 500psi Mask Defog. It is cheaper than the Diver's Best and worked almost as well. I think it was around 3.50 an ounce as opposed to 6 dollars an ounce. It looks like Blue Goo hand cleaner (if you know what that is) but it works well and doesnt sting your eyes. It is also really slow flowing but for us well worth the wait.

There a product that we tried once and threw it away because it stung our eyes when a little water got in (which in inevitably does) and that was

Oceanways Diving Mask Defogger. It was awful. It is also usually 6.00 an ounce so for the same price you can get the Diver's Best.

Spit can work in a pinch but a commercial mask defogger is so much better and not a terribly expensive investment!

If you are in the Denver metro area there are plenty of dive shops. Just check the yellow pages under scuba. Colorado has one of the largest populations of divers of any land-locked state. Many other cities have dive shops, even though the ocean is a long way away. They will also have lots of other goodies that will make snorkeling more fun.
