New Smithsonian Museum is impressive!

I'm in Washington, DC on business and had a half day to sightsee before I go home tomorrow morning. I wandered over to the new Museum of the American Indian and waited in a long line to get in (they plan to regularly use a timed pass system like the Holocaust Museum [which I also went to for the first time today], but the pass system was not in effect today). The museum is spectacular in terms of architecture and landscaping, and the exhibits are also extremely interesting and high quality (barely scratched the surface in my two hour visit both because of congestion and because there is just some much to see and so much to digest). The museum honors Indians from the Arctic Circle to South America and is a real tribute to the culture, history, art, and environments of American Indians. I highly recommend the museum to anyone who has a chance to visit.

Sounds great. Where is it? Is it near a Metro stop?

I read that it was opening, but I hadn't heard much else about it.

my parents are in town visiting my sisters right now and they went and can't stop talking about how wonderful it is! hope we can get down there sometime in the not so distant future. they went early on I think it was monday morning and did not have to wait or used timed tickets, although they had expected to.

The museum is immediately east of the Air and Space Museum. It's between 3rd and 4th at Independence.

That's terrific! It wasn't open on our August triip. I'm sorry we missed it.

I saw the article in the Smithsonian about it! It looks inredible! I cannot wait to see it. I know that they worked hard to make it acceptable to the native populations. The designer of it lives locally, and my niece trains his dogs/horses.

I do want to know how you get that job!

We can't wait to see it! We walked past it right before it opened, it looks very cool.
