We were at AK yesterday and they randomly selected people for metal detectors in morning but at night after going through security everyone had to go through the detector.

It was exactly the same on our trip in August as well

I'm happy with any additional security measures.
Universal has a very efficient security screening process and I was very impressed this summer at the ease it took to go through. I definitely felt very safe.
I felt safe in Disney too, but again, I definitely invite additional measures to ensure guests safety!

I like that it's away from the park enterance. I like that the MK and resort monorails will be secure. I dislike confusion right before my trip. Hope it's all settled and figured out before my first Poly stay in May. I'd hate to be Disappointed

I think this is a positive change and extends their "secure" areas to include the monorail and ferry. It will also help tremendously with clearling the front of MK from the huge backlog of people you can sometimes get waiting for the security check. With having multiple check points, it's less likely to have too much overcrowding. This assumes they staff each security check point correctly. I expect there may be a few growing pains while they figure out how many they need at the buses vs. TTC, as an example.

The only downfall I'm seeing is having to do 2 security checks if you're staying at a monorail resort and using monorail to get to Epcot. You also get a security check if you're just going from one monorail resort to another and not even going to a park. The plus is, your monorail is more secure and hopefully there won't be too much of a delay in those situations.

Will trash cans be added back to the MK monorail platform?

I'm guessing riders using the monorail from EPCOT will have to go through screening at TTC if they want to board MK transportation there and riders boarding the EPCOT monorail at TTC will not go through screening???

This is what I was wondering. I may be remembering incorrectly, but can't an individual arrive at EPCOT and immediately board the monorail without going through security?

yes but you don't just walk from monorail to monorail at ttc, you'd probably end up passing through security on the way to seven seas lagoon loop.

I am sure they have thought of every possible scenario in a person's day, and security checkpoints will be placed in all the needed spots. Oh this world we live in where we must endure this scrutiny. I know it's needed, but it sure bursts my bubble sometimes.

That was one part traffic flow and one part establishing the "experience" to leave the world behind.

A vision that's now utterly destroyed.

If they are adding security to the Monorail resorts, but not making any changes at Epcot, then to go from the Poly to Epcot via Monorail you would have to pass through security twice? Once at the resort and once at Epcot. Alternatively, if arriving by Monorail at Epcot means you can skip security there (having already been screened at TTC) then if you are using the Monorail to get from MK to Epcot would you be able skip security altogether?

Yes. All MK guests will be screened prior to entering the park.


The Epcot Monorail stops at TTC where riders switch to the MK line. If they won't be screened before entering the Epcot Monorail station, they'll get screened before they load onto the MK Monorail.

All Monorail Guests unloading at MK won't go through any other screening - except by the undercover Security.

we'll find out monday but my guess is yes it'll be a stop inside poly and another at epcot.

I wish they could put all of WDW in a "bubble" and screen everyone coming onsite - luggage and all! One security stop at the entrance(s) of WDW!!

That's my concern. I've seen the TTC get backed up when the monorail isn't running. I'm curious as to how many people park at the TTC versus coming from the resorts?

I went to Epcot three seperate times in 2016 and never went through a metal detector. They were selecting people at radom every time I entered Epcot.

Unfortunately, MK no longer has Cabanas.

The only way to bypass Security is to book a VIP tour. You'll be picked up at your resort and taken to the park of your choice... includes access to backstage areas - I hope these VIPs do get screened somewhere. Probably not - highly doubt they sent Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban through a metal detector.

I'm hoping they find a way to streamline this so that people who've been screened to get on the resort monorail line can go directly to the EP monorail, while those who arrive at TTC and get on the EP monorail can be screened at TTC (thereby securing both monorail lines). Then only those arriving by bus and car at EP would have to go through EP security. I would imagine that would streamline the EP entrance as well? Bag check after the EP monorail gets so backed up, IMHO. I think just getting screened at the resort would help alleviate that. I hope they figure out a way to make monorail resort hopping a little more convenient, though. This will put a real damper on the monorail crawl!

Yeah, it's been going on since January. Everyone goes through. They have a no bags line, the lines on the outside are for strollers and wheelchairs and the inside are for everyone else, but everyone goes through metal detectors
