New Security Measures for MK Guests; UPDATES: Page 12 - Post 222; Live Reports - Pgs. 18-20

So there is absolutely no way to go from your resort to Polynesian or Contemporary for a meal without being treated like a criminal? Hmm, I may have a coveted O'Hana reservation for someone if that is the case.

Personally I do not feel like a criminal going through security, it makes me feel safer, I think with the spreading out of multiple security check points lines will make the lines much shorter. If you feel like a criminal going through security, how do you feel about the finger print you have to give when entering the park?

A whole lot of folks were/are not happy with that, either. That at least makes sense. Security theater doesn't make as much sense.

You are no safer than you were 5 or 10 years ago. If a terrorist wants to blow up disney they will find a way. This is pure BS and an inconvenience to the people who pay a lot of money to be immersed in the disney magic. Guess we will just do multiple buses and leave earlier.

I'm digressing from the topic quiet a bit, but i'm one of those Americans that actually take the legal concept of "innocent until proven guilty" quite literally. Over my relatively short 45 years, i've seen metal detectors and security and background checks become commonplace. When I was young, the airport was the only place where you encountered metal detectors. Courthouses, schools, churches, amusement parks, hospitals, sporting events, places of employment, and many other places I now have to prove that I am not a threat before I am allowed to enter.

Saying "its just the world we live in" doesn't make it better or excuse it. And to be honest, we should not so readily accept it. Besides having to prove my innocence, what I don't like is that security never gets relaxed, it only gets tighter and stricter. Mark my words, in 10 years WDW security will be much tighter and much stricter than it is now.

Off my soapbox...

Arriving by bus at the MK, If the bus screening line at MK looks long could you walk back towards the Contemporary and then turn around to use that line?

I don't think you could do this without crossing over some gates or ropes of some sort that are in place to keep people from being run over by a bus.

You would have to go through the bus bag check to go on to the Contempo walkway

What are the chances this gets re-worked sometime between now and the fall so that people walking to the TTC from the Poly won't have to go through security twice to get to Epcot? I specifically chose the Poly bc my trip in the fall will be MK and Epcot only. Had I known this, I might have chosen Boardwalk Villas instead. Since my trip is 5 months away, I'm hoping this is one of the kinks they work out by then.

My completely uninformed guess is that the chances are high. From what I remember regarding the monorail exit at EPCOT is it would take little effort to secure the exit. Checking the same guest twice for one trip means more work for Disney so it will reduce work for Disney as well as help the guest if they can do this

I don't think discussing this new system on a public forum is wrong either. I mean if someone wanted to do something they would buy park passes, to scope out how the new system works and look for ways to bypass it someway. They wouldn't just go by what people are discussing on here. I am sure the news has already covered these new security measures anyway.

It's an easy solution really.
People disembarking the monorail at Epcot could go through one of the gates closer to the exit (right side of the entrance, close to the Guest relations windows) the only problem would be people coming from the Epcot bus loop could mingle with people coming from the exit of the monorail

The bus riders is what I was wondering about but I couldn't remember if they walked between the monorail exit and the park; thought maybe they did. It's probably why Disney didn't include the monorail exit into the new security measures at the start. Disney will want to reduce work.

WELL .... just home with MK visits post security changes.

3 visits to MK; once in morning, once in afternoon and once in evening before Wishes.
All agreed .... via the Bus Depots ... joke.
There is nothing whatsoever secure about this.
Large number of tables, not all being used.
Only 5 metal detectors.

Biggest fail .....
ALL NON-BAG guests were waived direct to park.
NOT ONE in all three visits saw a metal detector.
We were all shocked.
Happened all three visits and three different time frames.
Lines were still at the ticket scanning point.
Some congestion was still happening in the plaza.
Once again your bag search varied greatly by CM.
Once again never saw one stroller searched at MK.

To compare:

Epcot, everyone went through the metal detectors.
Saw a variety of bag search methods.
Saw my first stroller search, pat down.

DHS, more in line with MK.
ALL NON-BAG guests were walked directly to park.
No metal detectors and no real observation by security.
It was kinda disconcerting.

Unless at the very least they are putting everyone through
the detector I don't think we are any safer ... and I think
anyone who makes slight observations will see holes. :worried:

Being screened is not treating you like a criminal. I take it you don't enter any Government buildings or even go to Universal?

Couldn't they move the check point closer to the bus stops, like they did with MK? This would get all arriving by bus or car but those arriving by monorail would exit inside the secure area. No need to move the monorail exit at all.

That would work perfectly. Bus check close to the bus, monorail exit goes straight inside through a side gate, car riders get checked in the usually spot

Being treated like a criminal? Are they going through guests pockets while being restrained? Is BOG only serving a choice of cheese or boloney sandwiches? Do we get two hots and a cot with our resort stay? I might need to rethink my completely optional, first world problem trip to Disney.

This is what DW and I are hoping for. I don't see why it can't happen. Fingers crossed that it does.

Gee when I go to a federal building I am only screened once and my bag goes through an X-ray machine and no one puts their mits on my stuff. I am allowed to be unhappy about this crap that is going to impact the enjoyment of the 1 vacation I will have until next year. Again I know you seem to go to Disney all the time so it's no big deal but this a very expensive trip for me and I am not pleased with any of this. If I wanted to be a total witch I would tell my kids we are not going at all and go on the vacation that I want but I won't break my promise to them. But they have been informed that the next time they go they will be adults and it is in their dime and I won't spend another cent of my money on Disney and that is my prerogative.

Yes by manually going through my personal bag they are saying I am a criminal. Even the crappy tsa doesn't touch my stuff. if you think all of this makes you any safer you are a lemming and I have a bridge to sell you.
