Just a thought to ponder...do you think WDW has any plans to make any new hotels in the future? :scratchin

I'm sure there are always concepts stored somewhere, but since they have not even finished the 2nd half of Pop Century, I doubt you'll see any new (non-DVC) properties for a while.

I don't know but they/ve built enough values, so I hope the next one is a moderate.

I know they have plans to build the Villas at the Animal Kingdom Lodge, its just a matter of time.

Check out Google Maps, you can even see where they would go on the AKL property.

Word on the street is that only DVC is what they'll be building for a long while =)

Michael.. this is a very interesting idea... I own at VWL but I'd buy an additional contract if they built there or at the Contemporary.

It would be nice but I really do think they should finish POP first. It looks tacky just sitting there all dark and grim.

I would love for them to finish the other half of POP - we'd really love to stay there when it opens. We're always discussing all of the cool icons & themes they could do for the 1900-1940's over there. It looks like fun!

I'm sure they'll always be adding more resorts - I just hope they're not all DVC in the future. :)

This is weird-I was returning from picking up my rental car at the car care center and made a wrong turn on the way back to the Gf. I was in a WDW service area parallel to the road running to the GF. I went several miles and made a right into an under construction roadway-treaveled about a mile on paved surface, before I had to turn around. As I loked up I saw a large new comletes sign that read"thanks for visiting Disney Resorts". Maybe a new resort area?

What you likely came across was the new road that Disney is helping to build that will alleviate some traffic on the main roadways. From what I read this new road will also benefit Disney as it will allow cars access onto WDW property from another direction. I can't remember the number of the road that this is coming off of.
As for new resorts, I read a while back that the reason Disney has not completed POP is that it cannot get the workers needed to staff the resort. The unemployment rate in central Florida is very low. I know that Disney now recruits in foreign countries to try to fill their needs. So until the situation gets better we won't be seeing any new resorts for a very long time. They will continue to add onto the DVC since this business is booming and instead of building new ones they will likely just add to their existing resorts.

It does seem that DVC is all they need to add at this time. I suspect we'll see the Contemporary DVC and the LBV DVC built before we see a DVC at AKL, though surely the latter would attract my attention a bit.

I kind of doubt this. The reason is that the Savannah views are very specific. I'm not sure that they could built villas on the outside of their current staging area without you seeing through the artificial scenary. If you look at VWL, you can see that WL wasn't balanced without that part of the resort. AKL seems to be complete.

I'm wondering if they are going to make the other half of Pop into suites for families of 5+. I read somewhere (probably here, LOL) that they might make part of ASMu suites sometime in the not-so-distant future.

I have it from a very good source, besides, you can see the spot on the map:

The Villas at the AKL would go in the same general area in relation to the AKL as the Villas at the WL.

I think "need" is a bit strong...maybe desire or Disney, Inc's desired market push, but for the 80% of people who cannot or do not desire to come to WDW every year or every other year, another over-priced (at least to non-DVC members) DVC resort is not what is needed. Finish POP off (family suite-style as has been mentioned) and then another good, solid moderate resort (with interior hallways) would be better at this point in my opinion. I don't think most people mind a 40% - 50% mark-up for a comparable hotel room on-property versus one off-property, but $300/nt for a suite-style hotel room (ala' Residence Inn) on property compared to $125 off property is a no-brainer for most people...and not in Disney's favor.

Just a thought for the higher-ups...

If guests needed another moderate, folks would have a much harder time finding available space in the ones they've got now, all year long. As it is, they're only filling the resorts during school holidays.
