DH and I are thinking about buying into DVC but are not crazy about Saratoga. We are considering purchasing a resale, but before we do that, we were wondering if anyone knows if there are any plans for a new DVC property after the completion of Saratoga? Also, if we were to choose a resale, which resort would everyone recommend? Thanks in advance for the help.

J,

There are main rumors, but one thing is for sure; any new place is years and years away.

Nothing but rumors...and they would all be a looooong way off. Saratoga Springs has proved to be so popular that DVC announced a 50% increase in size over the initial design. The final units won't open until 2007, and they could be selling points at SSR through the end of the decade.

On the rumor front, building at the Contemporary is a popular topic. The previously-announced Eagle Pines site is also a possibility. Some don't even believe there will be another resort.

The one that appeals to YOU. The resorts all have their own unique touches to appeal to different audiences. Nobody can tell you which is right for you.

There was another resort planned before SSR and it was put off. It was Eagle Pines and was going to be at the Eagle Pines Golf Course. Concept drawing had already been created for it when it was dropped. No one knows if it will be revived or not. With the size of SSR being expaned to three phases, it will be selling for a while and I don't think they will cut into those sales by announcing anything too soon.

Rumors fly all of the time aregarding where the next DVC resort will be but they are only guesses.

What resort is the best? Take your pick. You will get all kinds of opinions on here as to which one is the best. They all have their positives. Good luck in deciding. Our favorite is the BWV because it really is the best.;)

Yeah, what HBC said!

As for the future, I have it on good authority that the next DVC resort will be at the new Mars Outpost (close to the really far parking in the MK lot region).::yes:: Mission Space was a practise run for the new type of Disney Rocket Bus that will serve the new resort, and yes, the drivers will wear purple pants here too. Yeah, they say it's just a rumor, but it'll probably happen before they get on on the monorail

Maybe they will change them to orange now that you've told everyone the secret?

Rocket bus orange, rocket bus blue, rocket bus black.....etc.

I wish the next DVC resort would be on the monorail line, but not the Contemporary. I also wish I'd hit the lottery tonight! If I do, I'll buy into all the great DVC resorts and still have money for the next one in line. Maybe it will be the space one  I vote for blue pants though. My 2 1/2 year old son loves blue, and I love him, so there you have it.

P.S. If we win the lottery tonight, I also promise to become a Lifetime Sponsor!!! And very happily I might add.

As to where to buy, the sage advice for years here has been to buy where you think you'll want to stay most. I concur with that. When we bought initially it was sight unseen and only BWV points were available. 3 of our contracts are there. We love it and lucked out that it is our favorite. We also bought a small contract at the BCV a couple of years ago. We have stayed at the BWV and OKW and won't have our first stay at the BCV until December. We love the BWV and OKW and so we didn't have too much motivation to try the BCV previously. I'm sure we will love it, but if I could do it over I would have looked for a resale at the BWV instead of buying BCV from Disney. This isn't a plug for the BWV but just trying to reinforce the premise of buying where you want to stay most. Everyone's tastes are different.

We also bought BCV points in '01 and we haven't stayed there yet either. I wish we had bought more WLV points. We have 250 WLV and 150 BCV points. At the tme we thoght we wanted an EPCOT resort as well but once we stayed at WLV it's hard to stay anywhere else. I did stay at BWV for a short trip, it was nice but I didn't get the same feeling like WLV. Definately buy where you want to stay

It occurs to me that what everyone on this board takes for granted, but is certainly not true for all timeshares, is that all the DVC properties are well-maintained. For those new to DVC this is a legitimate concern and a good question. But at DVC you really can choose on the basis of cost, location, room size and theming, without having to worry about getting stuck with a run-down home resort.

I don't think that it is all that important to buy where you want to stay most, as long as you buy into a resort where you would be content to stay (even if it was not your first choice).

We bought at WLV because that is what was available when we were looking, but we have never stayed there. We've stayed at OKW twice and BCV once. We liked BCV best - have reservations there for December. It's never been a problem getting what we want, even with only being able to book 7 months out.

Next year we are planning to take relatives with small children so we will stay at WLV then. It'll be good to have the longer planning time then.

I don't think it matters much where you buy. Everything is really nice and has different things to offer. Barrie

I think we should change our favorite "buy where you want to stay" to a new mantra:
Buy where you want to stay and buy SOON. One thing that is absolutely predictable is that the prices will go up (shockingly so)while you are waiting to see what the next resort might be.

Oh, I noticed it right away and was going to respond the same, but now I will just chime in that I agree too!

I really don't think so because Disney's last three DVC resorts used existing infastructure which had to save them a ton of money. Which obviously leads me to the Contemporary DVC. It makes sense. Think of all of the money Disney could save by having a DVC resort there.

It needs updating. A DVC withing walking distance of MK. Pretty nice. There's a tone of room around bay lake north of the Contemporary for lots of resort space.

So this is a no brainer. Don't wait because:

2007 is a long way off
Eagle pine could be next which will be similar to SSR (golf course resort)
Price could go up

Your choice is buy SSR with the deal (free park passes) or the better option, buy resale. If you can't find a resort out of SSR, VWL, BCV, BWV or OKW than you won't be happy with the next resort either.
