Yes, I too have noticed that most of the women objecting are female. :rotfl2:

Otherwise things could get rather confusing.

Until I see Pictures I will just ASSUME that ALL the WOMEN objecting are Female :lmao:

I wish I was wrong! I hope that Disney isn't run by accountants who change the rules after I send in my money, and pre-book thinking that I'm going to get what I got last year, and every year I've been.

But where there is smoke.....

Your sig says you've been once since '83. That's a lot of pre-booking.

I'm sorry, but this discussion is going completely overboard now.

I for one am becoming more thrilled by the moment. Apparently this life altering 4 degree change in temperatures if going to cause a mass exodus from the DVC. Easier to book at the 7-month mark, excellent.

fonz

I see you are in NY.

Little chilly up there i imagine?

I suggest you turn your thermo down 5 degrees tonight, from where you have kept it all winter, and see if your wife notices.

Which would suggest that some of the women objecting to this policy are males. Color me confused :confused3 :rotfl2:

Phil

Phil, in the future, when corresponding to Disney, please speak only for yourself. I know that you do not speak for me, and I don't remember a vote authorizing you to speak for DIS DVCers, yet your letter seemed to imply that you were the voice of us all.

Thanks.

I totally agree. If I swim at Disney and the pool is uncomfortably cool I am pefectly capable of expressing that in a rational manner. Also Phil you might want to check your sources seems our lifeguard authority you are quoting took the fifth on this one and bowed out of the discussion and removed his quotes.

I am surprised that the moderators have allowed this to proceed. I always thought the DIS policy was not to provide a forum to instigate email campaigns.

Has this changed?

If you don't like the current temperatures after experiencing them complain; but I will never complain based on someone's else opinion of what is suitable. That would be like complaining in advance about the steaks at the Yachtsman before I even eat there.

Now there is a dicussion worth having, will pool temperatures make it easier to book at resorts other than your home at short notice. ;)

Wow! This thread sure got long. I just returned from SSR after a week's stay. The pool temp is definitely colder. We spent a great deal of time at the resorts main pool. If it's over 85 degrees and sunny - and you get in the pool and get used to the temp - you can stand to stay in, and you are okay if you do not get out of the water. If it's below 85 degrees air temperature and it's cloudy, it's uncomfortable. Lots of shivering people. I asked a lifeguard and I got the standard American Red Cross answer. Sadly, I don't think they care if the guests use the pool or not. I did notice that all the lifeguards were pretty covered up - not one of them were just in their swim suits nor did I ever notice any of them get in the pool. I thought that was interesting.

I don't understand the logic behind thinking people should wait until they have been in a cold pool, before they complain.

It won't do me much good to spend 4k and go to wdw in january, and then hope I can complain on monday and get the pool warmer on tuesday.

dvc is all about pre planning..............right?

I am *****ing in advance, and in hopes my stay in january will be what it should be.

Yep, first big trip back was in Jan this year. I loved it so much I was thinking of DVC as next step. I would like to go twice a year from now-on for 2 weeks per trip. DVC is something I plan on looking into next.

As I child I went many times. Its great after a number of years spent on my career, to come back as an adult with money and time to spend on some great trips to Disney.

You can imagine how shocked I was, that the trip was a "A+" perfect trip in Jan for my honeymoon.....but the pool was very cold. (thanks to DisBoards for helping me pre-plan every detail and helping to make the trip come-off perfect .....well for all we could control)

Why would Disney do everything first class at the Beach Club and the parks
and then cheap-out on the pool?

At first you blame yourself and think that it must just be you. Or you must be crazy. Then a few months later you see 6 different threads on DisBoards and realize that Disney was doing a little experiment at the expense of the guest in January.

Well now its time to warn my friends at Dis-boards ( I wish I would have known in advance, I would have made sure to talk to the GM right there and then, after the cold pool experiance). But you're right! Now I am making a big deal out of this so others won't be caught off guard. Hopefully something will get done, and I can look forward to my next trip in Jan 07. I'd like to swim next-time for more than 15 minutes.

I am so glad you took the time to ask. Thanks Fonzy13 for being so intersted.

I am rethinking my position on the pool temperature.

Normally, I don't go to Disney in December for 12 nights, but this year I am.
So I was really looking forward to LOTS of time in the POOL, and just a little time in the Parks.

But normally I go to Disney Parks more on shorter trips in December.
But booking DVC in December is incredibly competitive.

If it gets to be public knowledge that the pools are so cold in December, then maybe it will ease up on the availability for December bookings.
That could be a nice effect, as others switch to more warmer months instead of December.

I can always now start competing for the 4th of July week bookings instead, when Disney Pools are very warm.

This is completely off topic but has anyone else noticed that the majority of women objecting to this new policy, including myself, are females.

Are you by any chance Rose from the Golden Girls???

Hear Hear and agreed! And being female and a woman... :rotfl2: If I was going to ask someone to speak for me it would probably be, oh I dont know... Sammie, Dean, or DrT... with B3 being a strong contender ;)
Seriously, he's tenacious.

Sorry for the misprint earlier today, it was my daughter's prom tonight and honestly, I knew I should never had sat down and read this thread in the middle of the afternoon with everything going on, never mind post.

I meant to say that it seems as if the majority of POSTERS objecting to the lowering of pool temperatures are women.

BTW my daughter looked beautiful and her boyfriends little brother told her that she looked like Cinderella tonight, it was very sweet the way he said it.

Here's how Disney handeled the cold pools with staff. I had quite a discussion with a pool maintance staff member. He agrees the pools are too cold. He said they complained and Disney issued them wet suits for when they work in the pools. It's true because I spoke to him while he was in the pool and commented how rediculous he looked in his wet suit. I wonder if Disney is going to issue wet suits to us when we want to go in the pools

Tom - I can confirm that the lifeguards are the most dressed of any lifeguards I have ever seen work at a pool. We just returned yesterday and spent a LOT of time at the SSR pool. Those lifeguards didn't touch a foot in that pool. I wouldn't get in the pool if it's under 80 degrees and not sunny. That's the only conditions the pools are comfortable for swimming. And it's not just women that are complaining.

I read and re-read his post. I did think it rambled on a bit but I sure did not get the impressiobn he was speaking for me or anyone else. He was simply making note that several posters here are upset. I am sure WDW can read the post themself and make a judgement as to weather he is or is not speaking for us. I think some here need to stop taking some of these post so seriously...smjj

If Disney really wanted to save money and energy why don't they install solar heaters for their pools? I heated my home pool to 88 degrees from April to October for free in Ohio. Also in the winter they could use solar covers at night to save money also.
