Since there are a few of you who think that my original poll was biased, let me revise my original poll a little bit.

Who out there thinks that DCL should get rid of the DJ music at the Sail Away Parties, and any other deck parties, and use steel drum band music to get everyone in the mood for where the cruise is headed?

It this was not a Disney cruise I would agree to change the music but the DJ music seems to add to the Disney atmosphere and the kids love it! IMHO.

I say the kids will have fun regardless -- c'mon, they're kids. My little boy couldn't care less what music they play at the deck party. And us grownups are the ones paying for the cruise... bring on the steel pan bands!! :)

Disneylunatic, there IS a steel drum band playing Caribbean music pretty much every day by the Goofy Pool. :) The sailaway party music is GREAT the way it is, it is dance music and it gets everyone in the mood to have FUN. :)

I haven't gone on the DCL cruise yet, but my experience is that the steel bands are great. We adults love it and will dance to it. When leaving the port, it is fun to hear the band playing. However, I am sure DCL probably was taking into consideration the needs of the kids. They want to make the kids feel comfortable from the jump. Many of these kids have no siblings with them, and you must admit, this whole ship may be a little overwhelming at first to a child. If they can do something that would make these kids feel more at ease, that is a good thing. Once they start participating in the dancing, they may loosen up to meet some of the other kids dancing, then they may see these same kids in the kids club they were dancing with on the first day, thus, making the transition from being a lone kid to one of already having started friendships. Just my thought. ps...I have my 8 yo grandson over now and he is going on the cruise. We were practicing the cha cha slide last night preparing for the cruise. We had such fun dancing. :) He is gonna have to keep up with grandma:cool:

We just got back from our first cruise. I liked the music for the sail away party but my family got tired of hearing the same songs over and over for the other deck parties......I wish they could mix it up a little and play something more than the same 10 songs over and over

Just my opinion of course :D

On the 7 day, how many deck parties do they have, and is it always a DJ? Thanks.

On our 5/17 cruise, I preferred the DJ music and dancing instead of the live band, which I didn't care for!

Not to sound too earthy crunchy or anything but if any of them got loose and fell into the ocean that could kill dolphins, whales fish what have you..
I have never had a problem with the deck parties,, the music is fun and I agree with Michelle they have caribbean music by the pool every day.

You can also find the steel drum band music on Deck 4. DH and walked or ran that deck (in hopes of warding off those extra pounds) and loved listening to the carribean music as we did that. Escpecially when we were at sea!

I thought some of the music was a little repetitive, but it didn't bother me at all because I thought the music was great!!! The steel drum band for us was Cool or Kool Breeze. They played usually all day right outside of the Goofy Pool. They were really good. They played like Bob Marley and typical Caribbean music. Then at night for the parties, they either had a band called Spirit that played, or they had a DJ. Some of the songs were the same, but I liked them.

AS far as I remember they have a sailaway party and then one other deck party. Both parties are via DJ.

I think the deck parties are fine the way they are. One of my fondest memories of my most recent DCL cruise is that of my husband and father-in-law (both usually very serious, calm men) doing "YMCA" and the Cha-Cha slide with two very young, very pretty female CM's who were on vacation on that cruise up on Deck 10 at the Nassau Night deck party. Of course, that was the one night that I left my camera in my room!

I also think the deck party is fine the way it is. You need something everyone can get into right away, and the mix of very common party music works well. :)

You'll not lack for steel drum music elsewhere on the cruise.
