Have members been made aware of this, though?
I went to the web site for DVC and cannot find what is being talked about. Is it official somewhere and I just cannot find it?
Other than verbal confirmation from member services this is the only official notice so far. None of the finer details have been disclosed to the membership as of yet.Reservation Booking Enhancement
Thanks to a recent service enhancement, Members may now place a single phone call to request a full reservation of as many as seven-nights beginning on the first day of their booking window (11 months before check-in at your Home Resort or seven months before check-in at other Disney Vacation Club Resorts). As a result of this enhancement, waitlists are now available only for the full length of stay.
There is always the law of unintended consequences. The logical approach for DVC is to make each change a cancellation and rebooking, I suspect it'll take them a while to have this consistently enforced at MS. But in the worst case scenario for DVC, you've reduced any stay of 7 days or longer to a single call and reduced the total number of day by day calls significantly. Certainly if they allow day by day modifications some will go against the intent of the rule and ultimately force a modification. The likely should increase the length on can reserve to 10 or 14 days as well but we'll see on that one.
As I've said several times, this is a reasonable and logical move on DVC's part, now lets see how they handle it. Ultimately DVC has to get a backbone on such matters to make any rule truly work.

This to is what MS told me today. To call back on my day 8 and book the remainder of my days and hopefully my room will be available for those days although she stressed that it is on a first come first serve basis. Like I stated in an earlier post I was disappointed when I asked the CM if this new system was just a trial or if these rules would be permanent and was told they were definitely permanent. With the amount of upsets this is causing you think they would give a new change like this a test run.Where are these "rules stated" you refer to, I haven't seen any officially announced rules yet.
Your wrong about the "the worst you'd be doing would be to competing with anyone else calling the same day for the same thing"
What about the people who call the day after me and book 7 days, and the next day and the next day etc up to my day 8, at peak periods like Christmas/New Year what I may want could be long gone by the time I get to my day 8.
So be it if that ends up being the case. Actually at 11 months out it shouldn't matter. IF you do a 7 night reservation, you are tying up one unit for the entire time. That's one person that can't book under this policy and thus get the nights you need later. Thus if you reserve 7 nights out and need to add on (and assuming DVC sticks to the rules stated) the worst you'd be doing would be to compete with anyone else calling the same day for the same thing and you'd do a new reservation for the additional 3 days and link to the first. IF DVC allows you to add a day each day, you simply have to call in day by day for 4 days total for a 10 day reservation instead of 10 days of day by day phone calls.
This is just all too evil for me. It's wrong. They make a change that should be GOOD for us and already everybody's trying to figure out a way around it. I only read the first couple of pages...does this change only go into effect for 7 n ressies? It's not good for say 4 or 5 n ressies? Is that the problem here? Is that what brought about all this scheming? I'm confused.
Of course, the flip side of this is if they go back to the old system, they might have to raise MF's.![]()
Where do I fine these Stated Rules you refer to?
I think you're wrong that I'd be competing with everone else for the same thing on the same day. What about the people who can book my day 8 on my day 2 and so on until I get to my 8th day. There's 7 days head start others have to book the 8th, 9th, and 10th days that I want.
A lightbulb just came on for me.....I've been reading all of these and none of it made sense and it finally fell into place. Let's see if I can say it outloud and have it make sense to anyone else.
You booked room 1A for the 1st - 7th. Nobody can get into room 1A until the 8th - so nobody arriving on the 5th will be in room 1A because your stuff is there. That room is totally locked up from booking until the 8th because you're there. It is out of inventory - does not exist as far as new bookings go. So the morning of the 8th is the first day that room is available for booking and that is the day you can call to book the rest of your days. That is also the first day any new arrivals have a shot at that room. Now people calling on the 2nd or 3rd might be getting a same size room as yours -and they may still be there on the 8th - but they are down the hall. It could be on the 8th that room 1A is the only room left of that size - but it IS open and available on the 8th because until your reservation was up on the 7th nobody else could get into it. So now you are competing with anybody who wants to arrive on the 8th - you could be competing for a smaller inventory of rooms because people may already be in the surrounding rooms, but there is at least 1 room available because you had it out of inventory until that morning.
Did that help anybody - or am I the only one??

I think that was the way it was outlined for some people, but unless I'm mistaken people have been checking w/MS, and using your example, have been told to call on the 2nd to reserve day 8, the 3rd to reserve day 9 etc. At that point it seems to become day by day, except it's 7 days in advance!
That was very well said! You did great!![]()
