We transferred old tickets to my parent's and sister's MDE account for an upcoming trip in April. Unfortunately, none of them have any magic bands or plastic cards to access them. We are all staying at the Poly. I assume that we can get these cards upon check-in at the Poly or do we need to go to guest services? We may also by magic bands to make it easier but my dad is not interested in wearing one. I assume there is no way to get these ahead of time.

Thanks

You can get them at the front desk. The plastic cards function as both a room key and park ticket.

This is great info!!! I will edit my post. It has been quiet awhile since using the a card.

I’ve gone on several trips as an adult dating back to 2007 and it’s been that way at least since then. They called the cards the “Key to the World” since they could get you in wherever you needed to go, parks or your room!

I remember the KTTW cards!

Thinking about Magic Bands for some of us. Will they still do the automatic posting of photos on our accounts if they sense a magic band, or has that been discontinued.

That still works, and it's the only reason why anyone with an old MagicBand might consider buying a new MagicBand, besides just wanting a new design. Old MagicBands will continue to work (forever, in theory) at touch-points. But they need a live battery for the long-range functions like automatic photo linking to work. Most estimates put the battery life of a MagicBand 2 at around 2-3 years.

Do you think that lifespan matters if the Magic Band was never used? We had a trip planned in 2020 that got cancelled when the parks shut down. They had already shipped us our Magic Bands. We're finally taking that trip in June, and the plan was just to use the same Magic Bands...

The battery will become depleted no matter how much/little it was used. I have an Apple Watch, and that works to capture me on rides, but I still use my old MB’s at touch points (I believe it’s faster/more reliable).

Also! If your group is small (& would all be caught in the same picture on rides), then only one person in your group needs to have an active battery (or a watch) to catch those photos. You just need to be riding together, linked in MDE as friends & family, and “sharing all photos” with each other in MDE.

I hope your upcoming trip is wonderful!!

Thank you! My husband has an Apple Watch (mine is a Galaxy Watch). Is there some sort of MDE app or something he needs to get?

Yes. He needs to have the MDE app on his iPhone, then he needs to create a Disney MagicMobile pass (done by clicking the 3 lines at the bottom right of the app, then click on “Disney MagicMobile,” and it will walk him through creating his pass- it’s super easy). It will be added to his wallet (after he gives it permission), and he should allow “express mode” to be activated as well.

Whew! I know that sounds like a lot, but it only takes a few minutes. After that, he should be able to just forget about it! 😉

Thanks for asking this, I had the same question! Trip planned Sept 2020 finally going this September. 2+ year old bands but never used

We have unused bands from 2020 as well. The parks were closed just a few weeks before our arrival. We will be wearing them in September even though they say 2020 on them. I plan to get one new band for MM. I am so happy to finally have the trip rescheduled.

I think that’s what we will do as well, get one new one that will always be with us for the long range stuff maybe even just in my backpack!
