New Parks?

can you give me the origin and department codes off your ID card?

in all seriousness...don't believe the hype.

If the culture evolves beyond disney...which is possible when you factor in technology and economic factors....nobody is going to lay the kind of money that they want on "memories".

If they maintain the property and adapt to the evolution of the market place and make people feel that WDW is still unique or "one of a kind"...i guess you can classify that as "memories"...then they'll always be fine.

If they don't or other factors well beyond the importance of travel and amusement enterprises...then they are just as vulnerable. They are NOT vulnerable to the competitors in orlando - by and large - but that's not what i'm getting at.

Disney is...as Roy e. Disney said in 1984: "A motion picture company that also is in the theme park business"

Now its a media conglomerate that uses all the business tactics at its disposal to push volume of PRODUCT....primarily off the chinese assembly line but also in travel, media, and intellectual property content.

There's your memories...carefully calculated to make you buy more.

All mention of "wishes, dreams, and memories" are the PR curtain to gain what they want at parks: revenue, operating income, and recurring business (more revenue).

These are the facts of the case...and they are indisputable.

I have fantastic memories (on many levels) at WDW...but that sure as heck isn't why i keep going. It's to do more. That's not memory...its the opposite.
How many people you know say "i went for the memories and loved it!"
Not many...and if the scheme works right...they take their memories (and their visa) and book another trip.
And that's what TWDC wants...and they are good at getting it...because they use the psychology of memory to get what they want.

Real World = You are right and correct on all points.
Disney Magic = is like paying off a mortgage, do the numbers always make sense? No. However is the warm and fuzzy feeling of not having a house payment real. You bet it is.

Thats a pretty good analogy...

But my hope is that people look deeper going forward. Disney is too good at manipulating the masses with the " wishes, magic, dreams, wonder stuff"

And that allows them to cut corners without backlash and that hurts all consumers...
More specifically: ME !!

LOL. Me too.

I have to ask and please don't take this as an insult, but are you an attorney? You sound just like the lawyers I work for. LOL. Especially the Corporate guys. : )

No...but I have an odd "cocktail" of experience that I guess comes off as lawyer ish when it comes to Disney...I suppose

Do you mind if I use that as the name of my new band. We are looking for a name and I think I just found it.

Put your hands together for: Odd Cocktail of Experience and of course after we are famous we will be known as "OCOE or jsut OCE". I can hear it now OCE Rocks!!!

What do I owe you.

unless...OCOE makes it semi-big and you are the opening act for U2...in which case i want VIP royal treatment on a tour stop and dinners with the band...preferably in Paris - as there is an exclusive restaurant (name escapes me) overlooking the Seine and Notre Dame from the South Bank that's about $1000 bucks a plate. I also want Bono to do a photoshoot with me in the Hall of Mirrors at Versailles as well...

That and a suite at the Four Seasons George V should do...

Not asking too much.

I think they need to a park for teenagers.

I heard once they was going to do a Villians Park which would be aimed at the older children but I don't think it is going to happen which is a shame

I think a whole new park in the US is not likely. A 5th gate in WDW or perhaps even DL is more likely but still not somehting I would expect to see in the next 20 years or so. I have severe doubts about the DAK Pandora expansion. The whole Avatar craze has run it's course already, it's "Ava-what?" these days. Keep investing on plussing up the aprks and fix the yeti already, that is a good course.
