New Park

But would the average park goer know who these "B list" characters are?

Disney owns the rights to the movies too. If they wanted to make the "B list" guys a-listers they could easily do it and build a part of a park around them sort of like Guardians of the Galaxy, Luke Cage (eventually), some of the x-men etc.

So it was, what, ten years from MK to Epcot, seven years from Epcot to HS, and I believe about ten years from HS to AK. It's been fifteen years this time.

From what I understand, DW has plenty of room to build a new park. Do you think we will see one within the next, say, ten years? And if so, what would be your guess at the theme?

I agree with PP in that Disney should concentrate their money on improving what they already have - through adding on to existing parks and also refurbishing those things that have either been dormant for too long or are just so antiquated that they need to be brought up to date.

While there is plenty of room, it makes sense to maybe expand existing parks that making a fifth gate. Less cost to build, less overhead to add additional staff at an existing park vs. have to completely staff a stand alone setting.

Hollywood Studios can certainly use some refurbishment on attractions like Backlot Tour, The Great Movie Ride - expand Star Wars there, expand on the Cars/Planes/Pixar angle. You could also add in the X-Men and/or Marvel aspect here as well but I don't think most people think of Disney when they hear Marvel. Leave it alone and use what people already know.

Epcot needs more rides to keep the kids, teens, young adults interested in going. While my kids love Epcot, I've heard many people say you could really skip this park with the exception of 1 or 2 attractions - Test Track, Mission Space, Soarin. I've heard talk of trying to add in or overhaul Norway with a Frozen theme. In reality Epcot is more adult based with a couple of attractions thrown in to appease the younger crowd. It has always been a wander, walk at a slower pace park in comparison to the other 3.

As for water parks. They don't need to add another waterpark as they already have 1 abandoned water park sitting idle and wasting away. If they needed one due to high volume, they already have a base to repair and reopen.

Animal Kingdom is a relative baby in the family of WDW Orlando. They have some great options and have continued to grow it with the addition of Everest. So WDW is listening in that they are adding on some more "thrilling" rides. The addition of Avatar makes sense to keep with the animal theme but I don't know how captive they will hold their audience as the movie has gone by the wayside - they better have some great special effects, good rides to overcome that. I know people who never saw the movie and would be puzzled by the tie in.... in opinion, use Disney themed movies that they could tie into the whole nature, animal theme.... Not sure who owns the rights to but thinking along the lines of King Kong, Godzilla, Planet of the Apes, Tarzan, Lion King - stories that most people don't even have to see to "get it" or are Disney so most people there have seen it.

Another thing that was always speculated, hinted at, talked about that would FANTASTIC is to complete the monorail loop to include more hotels and ALL 4 existing parks. This to me would be huge in bringing the 4 parks "together" while maintaining their own worlds and is a ride unto itself.

While I know profit margins & the allmighty dollar rule the roost, I don't think WDW has had a CEO that has the same "vision" that WDW was originally built with. Walt Disney had a way of looking into the future and seeing something that was special, too many top execs are too busy looking at the money aspect and not what the people want - to step away from their everyday worlds to enter a world all of its own - one that is total fantasy (Dumbo) and one that is sometimes imaginable (Tower of Terror).

Ironman?

Yeah. People know that character.

Antman or Daredevil?

Not so much

It depends really and they're still pumping out movies like crazy. Capt America will end up in a long string of films, and Guardians of the Galaxy might do the same because of the comedy involved. I think that could be a sleeper for them. Before they did the film series with Robert Downey Jr, most non-hardcore fans would have considered Ironman as a lightweight character who happened to be an Avenger. Stuff changes with time and the movies mean a LOT. When I was kid in the heyday of Stan Lee's run with the books, most people would have counted both Fantastic Four and X-Men as MUCH bigger franchises than Avengers, but a really great movie for Avengers and a really crappy one for Fantastic Four and look where things stand now. I never, EVER thought an Ironman movie would do as well at the box office as a Spiderman movie. Because back in the 60s/70s that would be unthinkable.

Personally, I think I would prefer for them to continue to update and expand their existing parks and even kick that up a notch. I would love for them to change DHS to just "The Studios". Have it divided up into 5 sections: Hollywood Studios, Disney Studios, Pixar Studios, Muppet Studios, and Lucas Studios. Bring in some of the fun stuff of Carsland as well as Mike and Sully to the Rescue, Jumpin' Jellyfish, and an Up-style ride for Pixar. Keep all of the fun Hollywood Stuff like Tower of Terror, Great Movie Ride, Brown Derby, Sci Fi, 50's Prime Time, etc. for Hollywood Studios. Keep Animation Academy and One Man's Dream for Disney Studios, as well as maybe bringing some old rides of Magic Kingdom (Snow White's Scary Adventures, Mr. Toad's Wild Ride) to Disney Studios. Add a roller coaster themed after The Great Gonzo to Muppet Studios and a Sweedish Chef restaurant, as well. I think that this would help it have less of an identity crisis. Animal Kingdom could add in The Americas, Australia, and Antarctica.

If they are going to add in a new park, I could see one based on Marvel as being pretty successful.

I think you forgot one. You only named 4.

I don't think I am going out on a limb by saying that a monorail expansion will most likely NEVER happen. It is so amazingly cost prohibitive to build not to mention they can't even maintain the tracks they already have.

And please don't forget, at the end of the day, Disney is a business. They have to do things to protect profit margins and keep the shareholders happy or guess what.....there is no Disney. Its very easy to get caught up in the romanticism that is Disney and Walt's vision....but it is a profit driven business. At the end of the day, they will make their decisions on what will protect their bottom line. They just do a very excellent job of pretending that isn't the case.

You know? I like this!

Oh I know the monorail expansion is a pipe dream and I don't think that would ever really happen... Just mentioned it because a lot of the things mentioned in this thread are people throwing out ideas of what they envisioned would be possible, nice. It was, at one point, something that they spoke about.

And I don't think I'm delusional in thinking that someone could combine Walt's vision with good business sense. IMO they no longer do such a great job of covering up the business aspect of WDW with the pretend and fantasy.

I love this idea! This would be a great way to expand and organize HS.

"Heroes and Villains"

Half the park dedicated to attractions from "heroes" in movies that don’t have a big presence in the other parks: Aladdin, Mulan, Hercules, Tarzan, Wall*E, The Incredibles.

The other half of the park has Villain-based attractions. Maybe a rollercoaster that goes through the elephant graveyard from The Lion King. A Jafar attraction through the Cave of Wonders. Something with Maleficent.

Frozen would probably get its own land, too. A musical, an attraction, maybe a water-based ride through Arendelle.

Imaginneers, give this gal a job! Brilliant!!

"The Unwanteds"
