New on the Wonder

i forgot about one of the better changes onboard the Wonder.

No more Sleepy "fake chocolates" -you know those waxy tasting things they put on you bed at night? That years and years ago we were all up in arms over them stopping?

now they are giving out co-branded milk chocolates from Ghiradelli. Much BETTER.

This is great. I always bring home more than half of the Sleepy chocolates. I still have some from our cruise 8 months ago and they are pretty nasty.

The Ghiradelli chocolate squares are fleet wide, not just on the Wonder.

Yep, and have been offered for at least several months. Got them on my Magic cruise last October.

Not a fan of the new Concierge Lounge. The "divider they put up makes it so that you can't see the concierge guests (this makes sense to me), but they should have just put up a full wall and moved it over 4 or 5 feet closer to the Concierge side instead of "around the corner" and taking away about 25% of the remaining non concierge space (the concierge guests are NOT using that 4-5 foot area to stay out of sight). On the Alaska cruise that I'm taking I intend to block as much view from the concierge lounge as possible. That upper Cove Cafe was a nice place to get out of the cold for a few minutes on Tracy Arm Day, now not so much ('cause there's very little room)

jrabbit, do you happen to have any pics of the Outlook Cafe? (Is it still called that or is it all just Cove these days?) This is one of the things I was looking forward to checking out on my upcoming Alaska cruise, and was very disappointed when they announced Concierge taking over much of it.

Yes, the chocolates are now fleet wide and taste better IMO!!! We had them on the Fantasy in August, Magic in October and Wonder in January. I like the idea of the Sea Salt Caramel...that would be awesome and very fitting!!!

Overall I liked the new Wonder. I will always miss Parrot Cay and the Chihuly fixtures....but I really enjoyed Tiana's Place and did like the atrium fixture better than the Magic's new one.

Unfortunately no. I didn't take many pictures this trip - even with all of the changes. I usually take 200 per day, this time only 400 for my 10 days away.

I did take about 20 pictures of the Magic and Wonder docked next to each other in Cozumel, and 20+ of the fireworks on pirate night ...

As a sometimes-Concierge, I love the new lounge and will spend a lot of time there next year when we sail on Wonder again. The windows make it a much more welcoming space than the Fantasy lounge, even if it is necessarily farther from the staterooms. The Cove space on deck 10 (Outlook is no more) was never full during our 7-nights last NYE and we enjoyed spending time there reading and chatting. It seemed the designated space for gold/platinum members to meet up. It must be different on cold sailing days in Alaska.

We just got off of our first Wonder cruise and we had an amazing time! Some general observations from a Wonder novice:

1. We were able to upgrade to the Roy suite at the port and the room was incredible. Loved eating Palo in our room and our 3 year old DD enjoyed having her own room.
2. The concierge lounge is really nice. It is much larger than the Magic lounge and may be as large as the larger ships. He concierge hosts Joanne and Glen did a great job and we would really enjoy cruising with them again.
3. Tiana's place is our new favorite restaurant now. The combination of meeting Tiana at your table, the live jazz music and Mardi Gras parade on top of the menu make this awesome.
4. Finally had pretzels on a Disney cruise boat.
5. The Frozen show was great. Right up there with tangled! Don't miss it as you won't be disappointed.
6. The overall crew was great. We can't wait to go on this boat again.

The Wonder is my favorite ship, having been on her 11 times I just love her! That being said, I am pleased with the refurb except for one area. I love the changes to the clubs themselves. Wavebands was in dire need of a reboot. The other two clubs look great! But they should have left Route 66 alone. It was unique and special and just plain fun. I will miss it.:sad1:

If anyone has photos of the updated Cove/Outlook area, I would love to see them! If not I will be sure to take some on my upcoming cruise.

Oh, also! Does anyone know if the Cove on the Wonder/Magic have the Yama Cold Brew Tower like the Dream and Fantasy?

Tiana's was wonderful. I loved the changes. So much fun with the entertainment at dinner. And!! the dessert menus at Tiana's light up.

now they are giving out co-branded milk chocolates from Ghiradelli. Much BETTER. I myself would have preferred dark chocolate (The Sea Salt Caramel ones would be very appropriate!) - or filled chocolates, but I guess in deference to the numerous children on board, Milk Chocolate will have to do.
I don't know why so many people assume that kids don't like dark chocolate. My daughter would much rather have dark chocolate any day over milk chocolate. I did like the change to Ghiradelli chocolates on our last cruise, but we both were wishing it was dark chocolate rather than milk.

I feel like they should offer both milk and dark chocolates. It's not like they can't afford it :p

And how would they determine who gets what? A survey when you board? Then the room attendant has to keep track of that too? And what happens when they commit the unforgivable son of putting the wrong type of chocolate on our pillows? A complaint to guest services and a request for compensation?

Judging from the candy counter at the grocery check out, milk chocolate seems to be more popular so it makes sense that is the type they picked.

Yes, I was on the Wonder for the January 20th sailing and the guy working the Cove was very proud of the Yama tower. He gave me a sample when I ordered my morning Americano on the first day of the cruise. The next day I ended up getting one when I got back on the ship after a hot day in Cozumel so I guess he's a good salesman.
