Just talked to MS

They are not sure when this will go into effect

This is what it is.

Point structure will stay the same

You will be guaranteed building assignment on a first come first serve basis upon request the following buildings

11-14 and 23-26.

Cool! Thanks for the info. We've never stayed in 23-26, but we might want to try it next time. Since the resort is so spread out, I wish you could book specific areas (Miller Road, Turtle Pond, Southpoint), but I'm sure that will never happen-it would probably be a nightmare for MS to do.

Just wondering.

Isn't in the Disney contract (or whatever) that if they up points for something they have to drop them elsewhere?

Not sure but I think I read that or heard it or something like that

They are not upping the points, it's the same number of points, just a guaranteed request.

When I called this morning to add another day to my day by day reservation, I aske that a request for buildings 23-26 be added to my reservation. Than I asked about the new guaranteed category and the cm said that she didn't know anything about it. Then I mentioned that it was in the membership publication and then she remembered. She said that in order for me to get this I would have to cancel my reservation and rebook when the category went into effect. Not necessarily easy cause iI am getting 3 2bdrm and a studio for next July. Someone else had said that it would be retroactive. I guess it's still wait and see.

Yes, that's true, although it does not apply to this because there is no points change.

But DVC resorts are sold with a finite number of points, which is calculated by the number and type of units and number of days in a year. The total number of points for a resort can't change.

DVC does have the ability to adjust point costs up and down -- for example the seasonal changes that happen each year. But if they raise points costs in one place, they have to lower them somewhere else or else there would not be enough points to cover the availability.

Also...Manning -- thanks for the intel!
