We live in the DC metro area and are dying to know more about the new National Harbor property...any rumors out there? DVC signs are up all over the place....at what point will they start selling?

We spent July 3 there and it was just marvelous. It's a gorgeous waterfront, across the Potomac from Mt. Vernon. There is a huge Gaylord hotel there as well as some other hotels, some great shops and restaurants. It's all new so all architecture is modern- I'm thinking the Disney property will have to comply with that theme...

Anyway, on July 3 we watched fireworks across the Potomac at Mt. Vernon and then the Gaylord set off their own. It was a perfect fireworks show because while the one on the downtown mall is truly incredible it is a harrowing experience (wall to wall people). So this was nice, sweet, crowded yes, but not dreadful and felt so patriotic being right across from George Washington's home.

I don't have any info, but I'm dying to hear what they're going to do. I would love to use my points for an awesome July 4th fireworks view. As it is now, my kids are still too young to brave the crowds on the mall and the crazy Metro lines to get home, so I'm looking forward to hearing the plans.

I think we'll plan on attending the Gaylord event next year, until Disney is up and running. I think tickets were $5 each, enough that kept the crowd from being crazy. They had a lot of activities too, for kids, plus food booths, etc. This past year was so great because the weather was so perfect but I remember many a July 4 on the mall in sweltering heat...

I have to admit, I'm not super-excited about the location. Wyndham just opened a resort there too, and while the immediate area seems interesting, it's a little cut off everything else down in that corner of PG county. The Wyndham in Alexandria is a lot better positioned as a "home base" for visiting DC.

But it's close to ME, Brian and isn't that what counts? ;) Priorities, people, priorities!

"DVC signs are up all over the place" at National Harbor? Really?

That would be big news.

The initial press release said that Disney is "considering" a "resort hotel for families and others visiting the National Capital Region." Beyond that, the developer and Disney have both revealed almost nothing about what Disney will build there.

As far as I know, there have been no announcements to the press that Disney's project will include DVC.

Are there actual DVC signs or just Disney signs?

Wow, how exciting. The resort is just 17 miles for us so we are looking forward to a DVC resort nearby.

Again, there is no official news that the Disney project at National Harbor includes DVC. It seems likely that it will, but it's also possible that it won't.

When Disney announced the resort in Hawaii, it was a Disney Vacation Club announcement. But for National Harbor, the announcement came from the developer of National Harbor and from Disney corporate information.

It's funny, I also live in the MD suburbs & am not excited about this whole announcement for a second.:confused3 I'd rather get on a plane & GO somewhere than drive to Shady Grove & take the metro downtown or whatever.:rolleyes13

It's close to me too. I can't wait for this. National Harbor is awesome.:thumbsup2

I am pretty sure also that it is going to be a hotel. I live on the eastern shore of MD and we get to DC maybe once every other year. We stayed at National Harbor this spring and loved it. We had said that when we return to DC we would stay there again. Now this gives us even more reason to go!

I was going to ask the same thing. I expected there'd be Disney signs up, but if there's something that has an actual DVC logo on it, that's news.
