New Mummy ride on the way

to shift focus, i know i'd like to be on the opening team of the new ride. i've already opened two rides and one park so far :)

I'll give you a hint: This useless fight-picking is what caused me to stop participating. This is supposed to be fun and interesting, especially to the few of us who are inside but several times in past we have all felt someone's ill will. Too bad, since this is a well-run board and undoubtedly the best source of information on the topic on the planet. As the resort evolves, there will be more interest in what's happening along with what rate someone paid at a hotel so why would anyone alienate either? We are going to say things you will not hear elsewhere but you should remember that the "professionals" in upper levels will not only keep our oaths in mind, but we know a little about keeping the imagination alive too. Basically we are here to help and entertain and keep you wondering a little but isn't that part of why some people keep logging on? That's it I'm done for now...

I've been away for a while and have just caught up with all this. Good to see IOATech and Earl (and others :teeth: ) all posting away on this topic. I certainly welcome all input and am happy to sift through for what the 'inside guys' can tell us. And the idea of a Mummy coaster (if that's what it turns out to be ;) Rob doesn't have a 100% record here, although he's pretty darn good) is a truly thrilling one. It should be a great shot in the arm for USF. Now, if they can just get around to replacing Dynamite Nights................!

Thats great!! They take away a ride that many different types of people can ride and they replace it with a rollar coaster where a very FEW type peoples can par take of. Why didn't they leave Knog alone and put the mummy coaster in IOA where it belongs with the other coasters :bounce: :Pinkbounc

There are many types of coasters that are family friendly. Big Thunder Mountain sure gets a lot of families and it is a great little coaster. I, for one, am hoping for a great dark ride with some coaster-like thrills. Anyone can stick a coaster in a box and call it a themed ride (space mountain and rock 'n roller coaster). Let's hope Universal does it right. Can't wait for the announcement!

Supposedly, the maintenance cost for Kong was high.

It's frustrating when the "insiders" come back and get flamed. If you notice, this thread has more views than others. I hope they don't vanish like before. The insiders add so much to this board.

Thunder mountain is great ,space mountain in fla is lame as opposed to the one in calif. I haven't tried rnr but I will. What i was saying is that there are people who for whatever reason cannot handle even a simple rollar coaster as tame as Goofy's Barn Stormer. I think it is another ride that they can't enjoy be cause the thinking is rollar coaster and not something else. I was not flaming the insider it was mangement thinking on what should be in the parks and ride experiences. If everything new will be a rollar coaster the why come. If I want to ride a rollar coaster then I can drive an hour to five flags park and get all the rollar coaster I can handle.

dan-tot, I'm sure that the remark about flaming was not aimed at you but rather at a poster on the first page. That poster has a history of nagging the insiders. You're post was fine.

First of all, it's roller coaster. Just because one ride in the park is now a thrill ride, doesn't mean there's not plenty of other attractions for families! Hitchcock is being replaced with a more family friendly attraction. I don't know when the last time is that you checked, but coasters are a big draw and a key attendence factor since the heydays of Coney Island. USF is pretty tame as is, one ride won't make a huge difference... let's see, they still got: Twister, T2, Earthquake, Jaws, MIB, BTTF(if "they" can handle it), ET, Curious George, Feival, Woody, Shrek, Jimmy Neutron, and of course the many shows that are throughout the park. The park will keep a majority of family attractions along with appealing to a thrill audience, is that so wrong???

That's kind of how I feel about it. A coaster simliar to space MT would be nice. I'm sure US can come up with even a better version w/o making it go upside down or twirl.

Exactly Rocketman.
Everytime the coaster fans step up, the family people come in and ruin it. Please, the suits listened to the family people from 2001 to 2002. Read what the CEO of SF said. They didn't build thill rides in 2002 and noone came. Go back to Coaster Wars.
BGT - Rhino Rally, Family Safari. Plagued by breakdowns on the 2nd half of the ride. The water fall effects on the 2nd half of the ride are no longer working. Oh, BTW, this thing costed 4 million.
SWF - Bar zone around tower, and shopping. Basically, they're trying to turn SWF into a shopping mall and fancy restaurants for rich people. Mistake.
IOA should have built the flyer in 2003. I can't confirm it, but from the rumors, I know it was on the drawing board until SFOG stepped in. IOA can still make up for it by building the flyer in 2005 on the land next to Rip Saw Falls.
Coasters people. Coasters. Enough of the family rides. It's been 2 years of family people winning. No more. Coasters.
That's the major draw. The family ride is 2nd rate. You don't go hyping a family ride as a major draw. Family rides are a side thing. Coasters are #1.
Build the flyer on the land next to Rip Saw Falls. Tunnels, Tree Chopers, Full length coaster with duel loading tracks that work.
Thank You.

I was thinking theme parks were for families too. Maybe I am wrong?? The lines are just as long for rides like MIB and Spiderman if not longer then DD at any given time. I wouldn't say coasters are the only draw to a theme park.

What I think the point he is trying to make is that MIB and Spiderman are not watered down thrill rides. Spiderman does not take it easy on anyone. MIB might not be scary, but it is a very exciting attraction.

I don't want to be rude or anything...but the tourist industry in Central Florida RELIES on families coming here for vacation. Coasters are GREAT, don't get me wrong...but let's face it, IOA (which is just about my favorite park) does NOT have the appeal (to families and so they don't have the attendance numbers)that the MK has, and there are no real thrill rides there.
Look at attendance and theme parks as a destination...where does the money go? The MK or IOA?
IOA IS their thrill park, they don't really need another park with nothing but coasters, IMO.
A good theme park, which will bring in the big attendance numbers HAS to have something for everyone, IMO. If IOA didn't have anything but coasters, they would lose a good number of families, and thus, their numbers would be LOWER. Coaster people go there...families go there. With nothing but coasters, they would lose those that aren't going to spend the $$$ to go into a park where their kids can't ride anything.

Just my opinion...but I don't think IOA is kicking MK's butt and so isn't the proof in the pudding? (ie. family IS a big part of the tourist industry, and hence, family rides are pretty much a staple).

I'm sure that Disney and Universal have all of the demographic and market research necessary to know if they need to go more coaster or family oriented.

It seems like they want to keep a 50/50 balance to attract both segments of the market with Universal leaning slightly more towards the adult thrill seeking audience and Disney leaning slightly more towards the family audience.

Some photos have turned up of on http://www.ioacentral.com that are from the inside of the Mummy building as it is being constructed. Good stuff for you folks curious about it's progress...

Now that was cool, hope IOA Central can keep getting updates.
