Hey girls - just a little update on me...
I had another bad episode of bleeding and severe cramping and had to go to the ER - nothing appeared wrong so they sent me home and I saw my OB yesterday. The baby looks good - she checked a few things like the baby's heart, kidney's, ect and all of that looks good. The baby's heartbeat was in the 150's and was strong. Our u/s tech asked if we wanted to know the sex and of course we said yes. She tried for a solid 15 minutes to get him to move into a position so she could see the goods but he wouldn't. The baby curled into a tight little ball when she tried poking him to get him to move. So she tried hard, but no luck finding out the sex!! She did find that I have a very low-lying placenta - the placenta is not over my cervix, but is extremely low. She said this could be the cause of my bleeding that I've had. She also found a subchorionic hemorrhage. This is basically bleeding that occurs between the uterine wall and the amniotic sac. These kind of hemorrhages are associated with up to 30% of all 1st and 2nd trimester miscarriages. She said I'm probably past this point, but there can be other concerns such as pre-term labor and placental abruption. She said there's no evidence of the placenta starting to separate from the uterine wall, but it's something we need to keep an eye on for sure. As far as the pain I'm having she said it's most likely just a result of this hemorrhage which can cause abdominal pain and the contractions I've been having. She monitored me and did pick up contractions but since my cervix is staying closed and not getting shorter she assured me they were just strong braxton hicks. Since the subchoionic hemorrhage is associated with pre-term labor I have to be careful the braxton hicks contractions don't become regular and I have to watch carefully for any other signs that I may be going into labor. I was ordered no "activity" for the duration of my pregnancy, no sports, no exercising, no lifting, ect... I am on modified bedrest. I can't be on my feet for more than 30 minutes at a time. I am allowed to go to work but I have to sit all day and not stand, I can cook dinner, clean, ect but I have to take breaks and take it really easy. She said at this point full bed rest isn't something she feels we need to do, but may be in the near future. She's also concerned over my blood pressure - it was 165/82 today and I started out at about 100/55 during the first few months of my pregnancy. At the ER it was 167/100. She said that itself may cause me to need to be put on bedrest. She was also concerned over my weight... I've lost 5 more pounds since my last appointment and she wasn't too happy about that. I will be seeing her again for evaluation regarding these things on August 14th.
