New "Mom's to Be" Thread!

Boy, do I ever 2nd the percocet!! I had that after my c-section with my dd and it was a miracle drug. I was getting around great pretty quickly as long as I had that a couple times a day. I will definitely be having them prescribe that for me again after my upcoming c-section, if at all possible. Dh also has had to take that twice for his hernia surgeries and loved the stuff too. Actually, I think he has some left from his recent surgery if I'm not mistaken.

Welcome to all the new moms-to-be! I hope someone will take over the list for Tink soon. You will love seeing your name get closer to the top every month. ;)

Tink~ Congrats on making it this far! I hope you make it to June. You are down to the wire now. You and I are at the top of the list and I definitely remember when we were on the bottom! I'm so ready to be off the list completely and announcing baby boy's arrival. I know you must be more than ready, carrying twins and all.

As for me, I started the internal checks today. I am having a c-section but she wanted to see if I have progressed at all to know if she should move the c-section date up or not. I also had my Group B Strep test done. Again, probably not even necessary due to the c-section but she is pretty cautious, especially since I tested positive for it and had to have the IV for it last pregnancy.

At this point in my pregnancy with my dd I was 1 cm dilated and 50% effaced...and I stayed that way until I was induced 4 days past my due date. This time I am not dilated or effaced at all and my cervix is about as closed as it can possibly get (according to my OB). I know it doesn't really matter overall but my dr. seems pretty confident he will not be making his appearance until the c-section date 3 weeks from today.

The one thing I had forgotten about was how bad you can cramp and bleed after the internals. Ugh! The bleeding is tapering off now (12 hours later) and I wish the cramps would too. I know it's normal and I had this happen with my dd but it's frustrating. It's not the start of labor or anything but it isn't exactly fun, ya know?

Hope you all are doing well and that you have a great week! :)

Yeah, I can sympathize! I remember after my c section all I could say to anyone is how much better I felt! The first thing I had when I got to my room after was a diet pepsi! I did hurt like two days later, but soon discovered that percocet was my best friend ;) , and I discovered that I could function and go visit the babies during the day if I only took one percocet and took 2 at night! I recovered really quickly and only really had a couple of days of yuckiness.
So, I highly recommend the percocet, but you probably know that already!:rotfl:

Yeah, I have been SO incredibly miserable this pregnancy with the SPD, rib issues and back spasms, bedrest, insomnia (that I already had and used to take something for), PUPPP, etc... that I have bet everyone I know (and I SWEAR I'll win!) that I will feel better and more functional when taking care of 2 newborns than I do now. :sad2:

Woohoo, someone to be miserable weekly with me! :rotfl: Just kidding. I actually have gotten used to the cramping after the internals since we've done them since some ridiculous time like 25 weeks.... and, knock on wood, have had very little spotting or anything after. Hopefully your uterus calmed down fairly quickly yesterday evening after you posted.... how miserable!

Well, last night the cramping got a lot worse and I had some stringy brown clots (sorry for the TMI!) and really thought I might be going into labor. I wasn't sure if the clots were just a result of the internal (I know bleeding and spotting can be normal for that but don't know much about clots) or if I was losing my mucous plug. I've never lost my mucous plug before and I've never had clots after an internal exam before so this was a new one for me either way.

I was thinking how ironic that I may be having this baby afterall when my dr. had just said she was so sure it wouldn't happen before my scheduled c-section. This baby has been so stubborn from the start so it would seem appropriate for him to prove her wrong IMO. Also, I have never had that much cramping and bleeding from an internal. It was quick and painless yesterday and better than some of the ones I had when pregnant with my dd and yet it caused a whole lot to happen.

However, the cramping and bleeding did stop and I guess it was a false alarm but I am definitely being cautious and keeping an eye on things just in case.

And Tink~ Yeah, between SPD, insomnia, back pain, sciatic pain, heartburn, etc....I am feeling DONE! However, I want him to stay put at least another week since we have some stuff that still needs to be done first, if possible. I think I could actually hold out another 2 weeks, 6 days (but who's counting down ;) ) if I have to but we'll see. Right now things are calm and nothing is happening so hopefully I won't have any more cramping or bleeding or contractions or anything for a while. Oh, and baby is kicking away now like nothing ever happened.

Tasha, Stop that! You're only a few days ahead of me and talking about going into labor?? :scared1: I'm not ready, so you can't be either. :rotfl: :rotfl: Although, I just got home from my doctor's appt and she did tell me that anytime after 36 weeks, they wouldn't try and stop labor, and then proceeded to tell me that she was going to be gone on vacation the next two weeks. At least everything seems to be fine and baby boy doesn't seem to anxious to get out yet. Hope yours stays a little while longer too.

Congrats to all the new people!

I still lurk on this thread now and again...figured I would post since we took Brady when he was 4 months old to Disney. First off - Congratulations!! How exciting!! Some things that really worked for us with Brady...

*bring your "travel system" stroller. It was wonderful, and provided complete shade from the sun and allowed Brady to sleep wherever we went. Restaurants would even let us bring the whole stroller in if he was sleeping and we didn't want to disturb him.

*Get a clip-on fan for the stroller - he would get soooooo hot in the infant seat or just sitting in the stroller. This helped a lot. I would suggest getting one before you go down...the Mickey one they sell in the parks is cute, but not really effective!

*Use the baby stations - they have anything and everything you would ever need, and provide a nice place to feed, relax, and change your baby.

*If you can, purchase a seat on the plane for your infant. We brought his carseat, and it was the best decision EVER (never mind the safest). He slept almost the entire time.

*Have somthing to put the baby in while in the hotel room. We stopped at Walmart before we drove to the resort (we had rented a car) and were going to get a bouncy-seat (ended up getting a Jumperoo). That was the BEST thing ever - Brady had something to entertain him while in the hotel room. It was GREAT! :thumbsup2

*Ship whatever you can (formula, diapers, food etc...) before you leave to yoru resort. Less to pack!

HAVE FUN!!! Take lots of pics!! :goodvibes

ETA: Oh - and we used our Baby Bjorn a TON to bring Brady around and on slow-moving rides!!

Hey bkreitzel! Looks like we are on the same track! Although my other two are much younger:scared1: !

Anyway, I found that taking an infant to Disney was so easy! Especially if you are breastfeeding. The baby care centers are wonderful. A sling/front pack carrier will make it so easy to take your little one on all of the rides and attractions.

I don't know how hot it is at Easter, but one of the best tips I got was to buy a car shammy from Walmart. Wet it down and squeeze out any excess and then put it on your baby like a blanket. It kept my baby so cool!!!

Don't stress about your trip, you'll have a blast!:thumbsup2

ahhhh

i can already tell you ladies are going to be my lifeline for the next year or so! I would not have thought of a fan or a moist shammy!!!

it seems so long ago that my others were babies...

has anyone shipped to Shades of Green? we are military and will be staying there. I had read other posts about shipping water, etc but was thinking we might just rent a car instead so we can go to sea world.

is 10 days too long w/ a baby? it seems like once we pay airfare from WI we want to stretch it out!! I didn't leave the house w/ my other two b/c i was so worried about germs...looks like I will be a totally different parent this time around! ha!

ok. baby care centers? fill me in. when we went, Jillian was 3.5 and Annabel was 1, and I had just stopped nursing her. we didnt see/use a baby care center!

i am calculating my due date at 1/29 ... my dr. appt is in mid june. I am more excited every day...we just found out this week and I was shocked, even thought we were trying, i just thought it was not going to happen! we had planned to not try anymore until fall so that I would be able to for sure go the the wedding!!

adamandlisa-how old are your other two?

You can ship to anywhere on property - just give your package plenty of time to arrive. Put your name, room #, and hotel reservation # clearly on the front label. That being said, if you do rent a car, it would be cheaper to just stop at the local Walmart on your way to the resort to get all the stuff you woudl have shipped (diapers, wipes, water, etc...). Definitely go off-site for all this stuff....WAY cheaper! :thumbsup2 Oh - and if you rent a car - we thought it was much easier to drive to many of the parks (we had Brady's carseat with us) rather than take Disney transportation. Just quicker and easier with the stroller and other stuff.

Is 10 days too long with a baby? Absolutely not...when we went down after Christmas, we were there 12 days, and it was fine. The first few days were go, go, go....then we realized Brady needed a few days of consistent down-time, so we took it easy. By the end of the trip, we just took our cues from him - somedays he would be fine all day, some days he needed to sleep-in in the morning, go to bed at a decent time, etc... I bet you will find that mid-trip, you actually will have a mini "vacation schedule" that you get used to. That is the blessing of going for a long time....you can get "settled in" to a routine somewhat.

Baby care centers - there is one in every park. Seems like I used the Magic Kingdom one the most. They have changing tables, sitting areas for nursing, and anything you could ever need/want for a baby - formula, wipes, diapers, clothes, etc.. They also have a kitchenette for cooking. It's really nice. The Magic Kindgom one is right to the left of the Crystal Palace - next to Casey's.

Again - have fun!! :yay:

Hey Guys. I also wanted to pop over since we have taken Alexander to WDW a few times.

The first time he went he was 6 weeks old in June. He slept the whole time!!

* I agree with bringing the 'travel system' stroller. I still take it up to WDW when I go with DS because it's just larger and more comfy for him. I didn't fly so I can't really comment on that. I have flown with him a bunch and he has always been a lap baby. Up until he was about 7 months old it was really easy to fly with him as a lap baby. After that he was getting to be a bit much to hold on to. As of right now he is scheduled to be a lap baby in July but he is so big I am thinking about getting him a seat. He's HUGE so I don't know if I will use his carseat or the CARES for him at this point.

* We bring our own pack n play up. It just seems more comfy for him. At least bring your own sheets for it. The ones that I saw outside the rooms where graco pack n plays, just older ones.

* I LOVE the idea of a bouncer or jumperoo for the room. Check out www.abbf.com website. They rent baby items in Orlando. I have heard great things about them. It would be cheaper than buying a bouncer or jumperoo.

* If you are going to rent a car you might as well buy diapers, wipes, formula and water when you get Orlando. You have a general idea of how much you will use, they won't really cost anymore in Orlando at Walmart then in Wisconsin and you won't have the cost to ship them.

* I never used a fan but I did dress DS is those one piece polo shirt jumpy things from carters or TCP. I tend to buy them a size bigger so they are very roomy and airy. He was always pretty comfy. The last time he was there was in March, a few weeks before Easter and he was fine.

* Ahh the baby stations are awesome!! They are so relaxing if you are nursing or even bottle feeding. The changing rooms are great and they have high chairs and tv for older babies for feeding. They even have food if you forget yours. Nice and cool relaxation for Mom and Baby.

Have a great time. I don't think 10 days is too long but it depends on how your baby adjusts. My DS has been traveling since he was 6 weeks old and does pretty well in different situations as long as I keep to his schedule as much as possible. We go home for a few weeks in at Christmas and in the summer and he adjusts fine.

Just wondering how everyone is feeling this weekend? Especially those of you getting closer to your due date!

For all of you 1st time Momma's (and even everyone else), do all of the walking you can in the end of your pregnancy. It will help the baby move down into position and keep your circulation going!:thumbsup2

Being high-risk, I wasn't allowed to exercise until the last month, so I had a lot of catching up to do!:rotfl:

Well ladies, the last 7+ months have been fun ;), but it appears I'm going to have to just put a time frame on my list-duties. When I went on bedrest 6 weeks ago, we were quite sure I wouldn't make it to the beginning of June. It appears we will, but obviously my time is getting closer and closer. Assuming I make it to next Friday (June 6), I will have to step down from said role at that point. I really hope someone is willing to take it over then, so all of our new mommies-to-be aren't left high and dry! :goodvibes

I would be more than happy to take over your duties, since I will be around here for a LONG time!:rotfl: I need something new to obsess over!:thumbsup2

That's exactly why I volunteered, I was waaay at the bottom of the list and knew I'd be around for quite some time. (Although, I didn't anticipate THIS much time! ;) )

Just take my word for it, make sure to keep a copy of the list either on your computer (word, etc) or in a PM. Our original thread disappeared and we were list-less for a long time.... which some folks didn't enjoy too much :rotfl:

Just a quick check-in. I scheduled our 3D u/s for next Saturday. I am so excited to "see" this little one. Also want to make sure it is still a girl. After 3 boys I have been a bit of a "non-believer".

Also, maybe TMI...so stop reading now if you don't want to know...

Okay, I warned you. I have been having a bit of swelling in the nether regions that I don't remember from the last 3 (of course, last time I was pg was 6 years ago). Nothing hurts, but it is evident when I wash that things are not quite normal. I am assuming that it isn't anything serious, because when I get up in the morning (after lying down all night), things seems to be less "bulgy". Anyone else having this issue??

Amie~ Have you switched soaps or detergents or anything lately? I had that happen once a couple years ago and it really freaked me out. I ended up at the gyno and they gave me some type of antibiotic and were even talking about doing a biopsy, etc. I was kind of freaked. Turned out I had an allergic reaction from switching detergents! I am really sensitive to scented products and have to be careful about switching.

No, I haven't changed anything, except for size ;) . There isn't any pain or irritation, just seems a bit swollen. I see the doc in a week, so I will mention it then. Since I posted last, I did a quick search and it seem to be a fairly common issue. I just don't remember it with the other pregnancies. Hhmmmm....
