New "Mom's to Be" Thread!

Never sick a day with DD. Not once, but I did pass out in the grocery store in line at the deli counter. My BP just dropped and so did I.:faint: Everything was fine but a bit scary. Gained 18 pounds total and she came out 8lbs even.

With DS I was a bit queasy for about 4-5 weeks. Never got sick, but wished I did thinking I would feel better. That ended and I felt great the rest of the pregnancy. Gained 11 pounds and he came out 7.5lbs.

Now preggers with #3 I knew it was a boy because my symptoms have been exactly the same. Never sick, just queasy, and now I'm fine. So far I've gained 9lbs.

I had absolutely no morning sickness with my 1st pregnancy...a girl.

This time I am having a boy and had it from 5.5 weeks till about 13.5 weeks. I never actually puked but was having dry heaves multiple times a day and was sooo nauseous that I could barely function at times. I remember praying that I would just vomit already and get it over with! Never thought I'd wish for that, lol! And getting on the computer literally made me nauseous and sick so my Internet time was definitely more limited back then. I still had to get through it though since I was going to school and clinicals full-time back then and I had a lot of research stuff to do online as well. It was definitely not easy but it seems like such a long time ago now and I'm glad I'm way past that point. Of course now that I'm at the end I am having a little nausea again but not anything as severe as the 1st trimester!

I was just telling dh today that this pregnancy and my dd's pregnancy were like night and day. Honestly, though, I don't think it has anything to do with the fact that they are different genders. I just think it's proof that they already have their own unique personalities. That's JMO on it though.

Here are some differences between my girl/boy pregnancies just so you can see though:

Have had heartburn with both pregnancies but it was much, much worse with dd and I thought it was worse than labor!

With dd, I was peeing in my pants by the halfway point of my pregnancy if I even breathed too loudly! Fun, right? Haven't had that problem even once this time around which is a nice change.

I tested positive for Group B Strep with my dd and negative this time.

I had extremely tender breasts with dd from the moment of conception but didn't have that until about 7 weeks this time around and they were never as tender as they were with her pregnancy.

I had severe exhaustion with dd's pregnancy in the beginning but wasn't all that tired this time around (till now!).

I had a lot of insomnia with dd but haven't had it quite as bad this time. The horrible heartburn/reflux that kept me up all night gagging on bile probably had something to do with that last time though!

I have had SPD (symphysis pubic dysfunction) this time around and didn't have that with dd. It is definitely not fun and I can't wait to be done and not have to experience this part of pregnancy anymore! :(

I just barely passed my 1 hour GD test with dd. This time I passed with flying colors.

BDing was never a problem and was even still fun during my dd's pregnancy, even when I was past my due date. But given the way I'm carrying with this one and the SPD pain...not so much this time around and it's awkward to even attempt it most of the time. I'll just leave it at that. ;)

Some things that both pregnancies had in common:

Both babies have had hiccups in utero.

I have been just barely anemic both times and on iron pills.

Both have been very active in utero and some of the movements have been downright painful.

Both have had an issue with me laying on my left side and kick me to the point of pain until I roll off of it.

Both have caused me to have sciatica.

Both have caused heartburn and reflux (though more severe with dd, as I've mentioned).

I lost some weight during the beginning of both pregnancies, even though I was constantly hungry and eating with dd and could barely eat with this one in the beginning. I didn't start gaining during either pregnancy till around 24 weeks, I think. I did gain a tad bit more with dd though and I'm sure that's because I was eating a bit more then.

I am sure there are more things I could think of but you get the idea, I'm sure!

Tink~ Glad the babies are staying put for now! I bet you are surprised you've made it this long. I think it's great that you have though because the longer you make it the less likely they will have a long stay in the NICU or something. It sounds like you have a couple of healthy, beautiful girls baking in there. And not much longer either way!!

Hi to everyone else! 2 weeks from today and my little boy will be here! I can't wait!

Just wondering who has names picked out for their little ones?

not us. Boys names seem to be really hard. There are not a whole lot that we like. It can't be a name that can be also used for a girl, cannot end in a vowel or vowel sounding (last name starts with A) and I don;t want it to be too insansely popular because then everybody in his class will have similar names. Which narrows does the list quite a bit. My mom has been calling him BB for baby boy since he does not have a name yet. Hopefully we can decide in the next 16 weeks.

Boys names are more difficult. With DS#1, we ended naming him using our father's middle names (or variations of) and he became Dylan Joseph.

DS#2 was a fight! DH really wanted Santino, me, not so much. I told my DH that I wanted to name him Hawke (:cool2: which I still think is really cool, but I just used it to get the name I really wanted;) ). So, DS#2 became Landon Christopher (middle name after DH's first name that he doesn't go by because he's from the south)

Confused yet?

When I chose Landon, I thought it was different and not so popular. Then when I called the Ped's office for first visit, I was informed that 4 other Landon's were born that week.:scared1:

My daughter was named after my Grandmother who had passed away. GM was Virginia Helen and I named DD Elaina Virginia (Elaina being a form of Helen).

For many years, I had so much trouble dealing with her death. I lived in the past for a long time and now it's time to live for my children.

She's in my heart and on my mind at least once a day. That's enough for me. :goodvibes

Oh, I thought you meant your grandmother passed and that's how your DD got her name.

So sorry for your loss. ((((hugs))))

Lisa

Our little girls are Avery Jade and Elise Nicole, but most people IRL don't know that yet (aside from a few friends, and my immediate family)..... mostly because I don't want my MIL knowing until they're here, but that's a whole different story! :rolleyes1

Thank you! My grandmother passed in 1988 and my daughter was '97, so you were right!

Beautiful names!!! You must be so excited! So...you have one of those MIL's.....:rotfl:

Tink~ I love the names you've picked for your twins...so pretty! I know someone who has an Ava and is having another little girl by c-section tomorrow. She's considering either Avery or Elise for this one. I think she's going to go with Avery and use Elise as the middle name but has said she might switch it around since she's worried Ava and Avery would be too close.

Lisa~ So sorry for the loss of your daughter! I can't even imagine!

Our dd's name is Kylie Noel and we knew only 1 other Kylee when we named her and that Kylee was several years older so we thought we gave her a name that wasn't too popular yet. Of course within 2 months of our dd's birth I know of 3 other Kylee/Kyleighs that were born. One actually was in my dd's daycare class when I was still in school so my Kylie became a Kylie J. My dd is the only one that spells it Kylie but still. I guess we all had the same idea that year! I actually received a PM a while back from another DISer who has a Kylee Noelle too (just spelled differently)...talk about coincidence!

We are naming this baby Cohen Blake. And it was a really big struggle for dh and I to find a name we agreed on this time. We have no trouble with girl names but boy names are a much different story. Anyway, my brother is deaf and years ago there was a little boy who was also deaf in his class that was named Cohen. He was the sweetest kid and I have a good association with the name. He is the only Cohen I have ever known. Of course, now that we plan to use the name, I am finding tons of people in other states on another pregnancy board I frequent are also using the name. There is actually a woman that named her daughter Kohen. I still don't know any other Cohen's IRL but my sister informed me yesterday that my other sister's friend just had a baby brother last month and they named him Cohen...and I think they are in the same town as us and everything. Sigh...it might end up being like Kylie and suddenly spring up everywhere here by the end of the year. Just our luck! We're still going with the name either way though.

Oh, and we live in the South and people are constantly asking if we are going to call him Blake since a lot of people do go by their middle names here (one of my sisters included...we have different moms and hers is from the South, mine isn't) but I am not originally from the South and plan to call my kids by their 1st name. Some people have found that odd. Who knew?!

I forgot to add another stipulation of the name that is making it difficult...it cannot end in "er" sounding because our last name ends in ER.
We are thinking of either Caleb Alan or Zachary Alan but we are not sure we are 100% sold on those names yet...though everything else we have not liked at all. Alan is DH middle name and a popular middle name in his family. Today on my way in I thought of Zachary Trent...Dh name is Trent and while I would have not normally made DH name the middle name I think it sounds really good together.... plus his initials would be ZTA....as in Z to A...:rotfl:

Hey ladies - I head back to the doctor tomorrow for my blood sugar check and a regular prenatal visit. Hopefully we'll be able to hear our little one's heartbeat - we've already seen it on the ultrasound, but didn't get to hear it.

Amanda - I saw your belly pic on your journal and you look so great!!!! Everyone is telling me I'm going to be huge because of how I look already at 10 weeks.... Here's my latest pic and DO NOT LAUGH ;)

Yes, I do. Well, I should clarify. She's very loving. I've read of some downright evil MILs, and I don't have one of those..... she just has no tact, no boundaries, and loves to rub me the wrong way. Always.

We are getting excited, but I've been so miserable this entire pregnancy that it still seems like it will never end. I am finding a few more moments each day though, that I realize 11 days (at the longest) isn't far at all! :goodvibes

I loved the name Ava, but it was a bit too popular for our liking. I agree that I think Avery and Ava in the same family might be a little close, IMO. We know very few people with those names (none personally, 1-2 working in NICUs and Peds) so we are pleased, especially considering it was impossible to reach an agreement. Of course, we learned not to place too much stock in popularity. My parents named me Jennifer when I was born because it was so rarely used. You can see how well that worked out :rotfl:

That is really interesting that it's so common to use a middle name in the South. My father goes by his middle name (Allen) but just because he didn't like Edward, which was after his grandfather. That's usually when I hear that being the case.... I didn't realize it was the norm anywhere regionally. Interesting!

I really like the name Cohen! We were convinced we were having 2 boys because, as hard as it was to find girl names, it was that much harder for boys. I like a lot of boy names that end in the "en"/"an" sound, but so does our last name.... which makes them often sound wrong to me.

I love the name Caleb, too! That's one that, while we weren't crazy about it with our last name, it at least stayed on the (very short) list of boy names we had tossed around. Of course, my sister is dating a Caleb, so I'm not sure if that would have made a difference in our opinion. He's a good kid, just God forbid they get married or something after we name our son that! ;) We had actually loved Isabelle for a girl, but Isabella is so popular we decided to wait. Good thing too, because my SIL named her dog Isabelle.

You look adorable! Don't listen to anyone. Despite measuring 46 weeks, I get people literally badmouthing me (strangers at times!) because I don't look "big enough" to be carrying twins, and somehow that translates in their mind to me not taking care of them. They are in the 40th percentile, so I'm actually just counting my blessings that I have less weight to lose than I could have! ;) My point is just that, your entire pregnancy, you will probably ALWAYS be both too big and too small for someone else's liking

I refused most belly shots, but here are a few that either got snuck by me or that I finally allowed out of exhaustion arguing with my mother ;)

its true everyone will always have something to say about how big you are. you got that you are too small to be having twins...people ask me "are you sure there arent 2 in there?!" :furious:

people just need a reason to hear themselves talk......

I think you look great! With DS#1, my stomach was so big that someone actually came up to me and asked if I was having triplets:scared1: ! Imagine having to explain there was only 1 baby and that I was only 14 weeks along!!!!:rotfl2:

Enjoy your time now, as hard as is it. I know, I know, easier said than done. Your life is about to change in such an amazing way, I'm very happy for you!

Funny, people always accused me of BEING "big enough" to carry multiples:lmao: :lmao: :lmao: My babies aren't tiny, but the rest is just a lot of weight to lose when it's all over.:rotfl:

Being named after Daddy is ALWAYS a good choice, not to mention I love the name Eric. I guess I always think of a certain prince who married a certain mermaid!;)
