I had a baby on Wednesday and got home yesterday. I have since run out of the "free" supplies that they give you at the hospital. I need some sort of pad to take the place of the maternity pads, but can't find anything. Does anyone have suggestions on what maxi-pads work really well? It's been so long since I've bought anything like that, I don't even remember name brands let alone good coverage. Thanks!!

I never had to buy the "big" ones after having a baby, the hospital always sent home lots of extra supplies. I'd think any brand of overnight would work.
Oh and congratulations!

First off, congrats on the new baby!! Hope you are getting some sleep and enjoying staring at your little one. I don't remember exactly which brand I used, but get ones that are for heavy flow and is long. I think there are ones that are made for "overnight use". I hated wearing them, because it felt like a diaper, but just be glad it won't last forever!

Thank you all so much for the quick replies and congrats. Should have gone shopping for these myself before she got here instead of sending the husband. I knew I could count on my wonderful Disfriends. Anyone else?

Congrats on your arrival!
I used the overhight Always ones with Wings. I actually had such a "heavy" time after-- and ruined quite a bit of underclothes that a friend recommended the disposable adult diapers. yes, it is not comfortable, yes, it was quite embarrasing but it was absolutly neccessary --and worked until things slowed down.....
Second child, no problems at all... not the same situation at all....

I used Always thins with wings either the overnight or long variety after both of my kids. I never used the ones they gave me at the hospital.

Congratulations!!
Anything that says overnight should work!! Your poor DH, if he is anything like mine he will grab the first pack he sees!!!

I second the Always Overnights. Or there is another one, I think Always Maximum? I can't remember exactly but they were both long, with wings. It's unbelievable that something so thin will actually work, but they do.

Slightly gross to think about - but a necessity of (new) life.

Congrats!

yep i agree always ultrathin with wings (the extra long ones) were great, i told all my friends and they didnt believe me till they tried it.

a friend of mine swore by depends! i used the overnight always with wings (i had my babies before her), but she said the depends were great... no coverage issues at all!

congratulations!

I used the Always with wings overnight ones. after about a week i switched to the regular ones.
Somebody said that their husband always buys the wrong kind lol sounds like mine! but it reminded me of when i was 16 and has just moved in with my dad and i needed pads(i still hate tampons to this day). I told my dad i need pads and he said(and i quote) "how many subjects 1, 3 or 5?" I almost died laughing. i said not those kind of pads and he got real quiet then he handed me a twenty and said we're leaving for the store now...:lmao: just thought i'd share....

oh yeah congratulations on your new arrival!!! :cheer2: Did you have a boy or girl and how much did he/she weigh? lol sorry i am so nosy!

That is a wonderful idea, actullay on of the hosp I worked for that is actually what we gave in L&D

These are great for home use especially since you should be checking and changing about every hour or so for too much bleeding. Plus you would never believe how much those always can handle.

congrat:cheer2: and good luck, don't forget if you breast feed it will help things much faster. Not pushing it, just that if you are it helps. Good luck, and get plenty of rest when you can.

Congrats on your new bundle!!!! I always ended up using Poise pads for the first few weeks.

I used Depends after Ds it was a suggestion I got from my mommy board. I always wore lounge pants after so they didn't show thru. After about a week I went to Always overnights.
Congrats on your baby girl and remember to sleep when she sleeps the housework can wait.

Thanks for sharing this memory! It is too funny! :rotfl2:

To the original poster, congratulations on the birth of your daughter (little princess). princess:
I agree with the recommendations here. I also want to share with you that if you are like I was, it was difficult (extremely uncomfortable/painful to sit); so I used a kid's blow-up swim ring. It was similiar to a medical donut you can buy but was only 99 cents instead of over 20 dollars. :hyper:

A swim ring might be hard to find right now, but you might try your local dollar store or possibly Target. I think I actually saw one here in the midwest the other day and it is in the negative numbers outside right now!

New mommy as of May 5th so I was just in the same boat. I wound up having to double sometimes triple up, placing them next to each other then in the front of them, at night with a very snug pair of undies or two. Even putting a pillow under my knees to elevate them slightly helped. But be super careful, to high up could cause leg clots so just a little bit.
