New MK Paid Disney After Hours Event Announced

We will be in the MK on May 8, and I am not so happy that an after-hours event has been scheduled for that day. We have been there on party days and the crowds were crazy after 4:00 pm. My kids would rather ride rides than watch Wishes, so we skip the show and take advantage of the lower crowds in the rest of the park. Those crowds probably won't be so low with an after-hours event that day.

This isn't an event my family of five would ever do (too expensive and too late), but I can see why some would want to do it. My complaint (which echoes others' about many other Disney announcements) is that we make plans 180 days in advance, then Disney announces something which would have affected our planning, had we had that information early on.

The friday of memorial day weekend has been a 24 hour event for some time now - I'm guessing they're going to keep that or risk pissing off people who booked for that weekend.

This is total, complete, 100% me guessing - isn't that Memorial Day Weekend? 24 hour event, possibly, on Friday!?

I do not think they are doing the 24 hour event this year. At least they aren't at DL. I assume if it isn't happening at DL, it wouldn't happen at WDW but who knows.

Did they usually announce the 24 hour event by now in the past?

This is definitely not something I'm interested in doing. I am curious to see what the response to this event is? It doesn't bother me that they do this, because I have a choice on whether I want to pay the money or not. What will bother me is if it eliminates extra magic hours. I guess we all just sit back and watch and wait now.

If this thread were actually representative of people going to the parks, we'd be in there alone for the extra 3 hours, making it completely worth it!

however we all know that's not true. So.

Disney has made it clear they don't want people on a budget in the parks. There's no requirement that they have to be subtle about it.

Also, it isn't abut going on a budget. Not for us at least. If they put up an event that was truly worth $150, then yes I'd consider it. But *extra* ride access for 3 hrs and some free ice cream isn't that. there used to be more *quality* in these extra events that Disney put on.

Im baffled that this thing that noone wanted or asked for has been released yet we're still waiting for the same over RoL and Tiffins

I really do commend those of you who still believe Disney does anything with the guest in mind. I'm sure anything is possible but I suspect attendance will only be "limited" to the number of people willing to pay for this. I'm sure due to the short notice that the early ones will have small crowds to ensure positive response and as they continue it will become like the parties without the show/parade distractions. It's very well played on Disney's part.

For the life of me I can't understand why anyone would pay $150 for just three hours in a park. That is absolutely ridiculous.

I've been a HUGE fan of many of WDW's ticketed events. I don't see the value in this unless there's more to it than what has been posted. You can get in at 7pm, but the park closes at 11pm. In my mind, this is $50 per person, per hour for really low crowds (hopefully!). No parade, special fireworks, special entertainment, etc. Nope.

But maybe this is easy for me to say because the only date that would work for our Apr trip is the night before the 5K... and we're also running the 10K and half... NOPE!

But as I always say, totally subjective!!

As I said, that release read like something completely incomplete that was pushed out either in error or too soon - the ride list in particular was totally bizarre. I'd think there's still more information coming.

I actually don't mind kids. Doesn't mean I wouldn't pay to be separated from other people's kids for some adult-only time.

Additionally, not minding kids doesn't mean that group #2 wouldn't pay for an event that was 21-up that offered special characters and no kid-type things like parades that clog up half the park. I think there's a fair number of people out there who would pay for access to the park with restricted attendance alone. Will see how it sells. But I agree with the above commenter that based on the increased numbers of places targeted at adults (trader sams, hangar bar, etc) that I think Disney is realizing there is untapped potential $$ in adults-only things at Disney.

Agreed on the more "adult" type places but that is Disney trying to have their cake and eat it to. They won't go full adults (remember Pleasure Island). I don't think they would see a ROI on a adult swim time period at the parks, even after they close. This event is as close as you are going to get.

Disney is measuring your tolerance for pain.
Right now they are debating whether to charge $99 or $119 for an adult ROL dinner package at Tusker House.

It sounds like the event that was "free" to DVC members as part of their 25th anniversary celebration. (Which sounded like a lot of fun)

Now I'm more disappointed that I couldn't go to the DVC event as I'm sure my dues paid part of someone else's admission.

The fact that this includes entry before park close plus the extra hours means people will definitely pay for this (much like the halloween and christmas parties). I'm sad though because it means the end of free (or included) EMH for those who stay on site.

Yes, we booked a trip last year when the day was announced. It was on March 18th
