New MK Paid Disney After Hours Event Announced

Let's take a breath here, folks.

Not saying it won't happen. But let's see what has happened in the last hour or two:

Someone posted an unsourced, unverified rumor about an after-hours event that will cost a preposterous amount of money with precious few details. We have taken that rumor and run with it and turned it into, so far, the end of Extra Magic Hours, proof that parties will cost over $200 this year, and more. Let's take a chill pill and wait and see.

Again, not saying it won't happen (wouldn't surprise me), but don't get riled up until you have to.

The big question to me is what 3 hours? I really don't care what they do in the park from 11-2. It will squeeze park attendance up in the day a little bit, but not a ton. On the other hand, if the event is 8-11PM and it will have an enormous impact to every guest's Magic Kingdom experience. We already see what the party events due to park crowds during dead season. Doing this during busier seasons will just make every single day that has wishes and evening parade overly crowded. On the other hand, days that do have the event will block you from seeing night time entertainment. I have a hard time comprehending there is a market for $150 per ticket to experience Disney from 11-2AM.

This does feel like a jump the shark moment.

I am a little shocked that anyone on here would actually pay to stay extra magic hours.

If people actually paid for this, then they will slowly but surely start charging money for extra magic hours.

Sometimes, we need to just say no, its not right.

Disney is starting to forget what made them so great to begin with. The only reason to do this is to test just how much money they can get out of us.

The thought of doing this shouldn't even run through our heads.

If its only for a few days, fine, but you can be damn sure that there is a reason for this, and its not in the interest of us folks.

For argument sake

a ticket to MK costs - what is now $110? you get at least 11 hours along with 55,000 guests (avg daily attendance i pulled up quickly from 2014 - feel free to correct me if my source was incorrect).

for a guest who has deeper pockets and perhaps only wants to visit one day, paying $150 for 3 hours in the park with a few thousand others could make sense.

DVC members were offered a chance at, I believe two, similar events - free (one i just missed for our February trip). Had thought it might be a test run.

ps loved the old $10 pm hours!

I'm so far behind. This thread is moving along so much faster than the ROL thread and I barely keep up with that one. I'm on page 6!

Wow, $150 for 3 hours!

This has been rumored for a little bit now. Not surprising to me at this point.

That's a good comparison. So for my family of four, we would pay $400 an hour for the VIP Tour, $100 per hour per person. This would be $200 an hour for $50 an hour per person.

Assuming that the ride access is the same, it could start to look like a good value against that tour anyway.

The number of tickets they sell will be the determining factor.

Disney math :)

If you're staying on Disney property for EMH, then you're staying for the wrong reasons IMO. I rarely even use those hours. I will stay to be in the disney magic 24 hours a day.
Me either. If Disney canceled EMH tomorrow if wouldn't make a bit of difference to us. In all our days at Disney we have never entered a park during EMH

Some of you that have been going to WDW for years...wasn't there a paid after hours event before EMH?

We did one in 1998. I've been trying to remember how much it cost. I know that it was a splurge for us at the time, and I felt a little ripped off because my daughter and I were stuck on Splash Mountain for almost an hour of it. My husband and son waited at the ride for us because they kept telling them that we'd be off soon, so they missed out, too.

Edit: I see that it was $12/adult and $10/child. That doesn't sound bad at all to me, but I think that extra $44 was a bit of a splurge for us back then on top of a Disney trip. especially since we could have done one of the breakfast buffets or Cinderella's lunch for almost the same price.

That's still referencing the same tweet. An announcement that was never announced.

Well, let's see if it's real, but wow, this seems super unlikely to be real. $150 for a child for three hours?

when my kids were young we were rope drop or am EMH commandos.

Now, that it's usually just he & me, love the MK late pm EMH option. We get to sleep in (yes, it's done @ WDW lol) & lounge around the pool/resort or hit a waterpark. Head out to eat a late lunch in 'the real world' before heading into MK mid to late afternoon.

It's a really nice way to be able to beat the heat of the summer. We even convinced my 5 y.o. GD is was good idea one day of last trip with her, thought she'd be chomping at the bit but she agreed it was a fun day.

I'd take a busy full day in the MK over this 3 hours. Any day. Pick up a couple extra bands and you could have fastpasses all day to work your way around big crowds for a lot less money. Plus you get shows, parades and fireworks.

Don't mean to derail, but I cannot understand how this would work. Isn't it tied to your ticket? Not the band...you would have to buy multiple tickets...
