New Menus!

The mushroom risotto and the chocolate peanut butter pie were the best things I ate on the WB PC repo. yum! loved the choc. pie so much my server brought me a piece the next night and I got the recipe.

I too am a picky eater and had a hard time finding stuff to eat so I ordered off the kids menu several times and Ivo never gave me any grief for it. He also changed some of the menu items for me.

  I know that peoples emotions and tones are VERY hard to de-cypher in emails...and I am HONESTLY not being rude..but I was trying to figure out if you were just playing around and joking?? Or if you really were put off by the up-graded food? :upsidedow
thanks to everyone for the info. And yes, I really don't find those dishes appetizing. I guess I like simple food. If I can order off the kids menu, I'll be fine. We eat meat/starch, veggie and regular salad every night for dinner at home. I guess I was expecting more "simple" fare from a disney cruise. I can always hit the hotdog stand an hour before dinner, and just have something lite with everyone else. It wouldn't kill me to miss a meal.

Ordering off the kids menu is an option that is available to all. Also, there is plain chicken, steak and some sort of fish every night. But don't be put off by the menus, give your cruise a chance to try new dishes you wouldn't otherwise order in a restaurant and if you don't like it just tell your server and they will be more than happy to bring you something that you will like.
I can be a picky eater as well, and have never gone hungry on a cruise and never had to eat something before dinner in case the menu would turn me off. There's enough options between the regular menu, the lighter fare menu and the kids menu.

DH never had lamb and would never order it out, he tried it on a cruise and now really likes it.

There's no need to hit the 'hotdog stand' before going to the dining room, you will find something you like on the menu. Just go in with an open mind and you will be fine.

Here is the thing. I have gotten conflicting reports.

Some people, like yourself say that they have never had any trouble getting something they like.

Others, and what I read in the Passporter concurs, says that getting specific dishes altered is very difficult if not impossible. For example, dressing on the side of a salad or a mushroom pasta sauce without the mushrooms.

So, I guess I am trying to prepare myself for the worst.

I would suggest that you talk to the dining manager at the Palo and rotation change location when you board. They post the menu for the day but the manager also has a notebook with the items listed in it. If there is something that they would need prior notice to do, you might be able to place your special order earlier in the day so that it can be ready for you as you would like. Something like dressing on the side is an easy request that we have never had refused on the Magic.

We, also, do not like any of the food in the dining rooms. The food is like what airplane food used to be like. There are exceptions, I found the lemon-lime chicken to be all right, the halibut at Luminere's was WONDERFUL, and the chocolate lava cake is so good. With that in mind, this cruise, my husband turned to me and said, you know what I am dreading about this cruise? I asked what, and he said, that he hated the dining rooms. It takes a good two hours to eat and it constantly felt like the whole day revolved around getting ready for dinner, which we didn't like.

So, this cruise coming up on Saturday, we have decided to do what we want to do. We will probably dine in the dining rooms 3-4 nights, but the other nights, we will just chill and eat where we want when we want. I will still tip the full amount (in fact, I always tip more than the amount), so I will make it clear to the servers that we will still be tipping them, we just won't be dining in the dining rooms every night.

Thank God I'm not a picky eater. I'll try anything. That's the best part of the cruise! All sounds good to me. I got into a little tiff with a morbidly obese friend of mine while we were at a picnic w/ a HUGE array of food. All he had on his plate was a plain hamburger and nachos. My plate was fuuuulll of many different things. I asked him why he wasn't eating more. He said he didn't like anything else. I asked him when the last time he tried veggies and dip was and he said 1963 when I was born!!!! ( He's a very sarcastic guy and he picks on me all the time, so it wasn't like I was being mean) He also said he didn't look like he had a problem getting enough food. I told him I was 1/4 his size and eating 4 times more than he was. I felt bad that he was afraid to try anything new. Life's too short!

Just got off the Magic on Saturday and loved the new menus.....I thought the food was really good. Better than last time we cruised in 2006. Though still not a fan of DCL desserts...most nights I just had ice cream (Dulce DeLeche was yum as well as the cocount ice cream)....these were in the dining room not at the ice cream station.

Palo brunch was awesome as well!!!

What does the Golden Mickey's menu replace?

From what I remember there were regular menus for Animator's Palete, Lumiere's, and Parrot Cay. Then you had Pirates, Master Chef, Captain's Gala, and 'Til We Meet Again.

ETA: I figured out it replaces the 'Til We Meet Again menu. Now does anyone know what days these are on. I'll be on the alternate western.

Actually, it replaces the Master Chef menu - the Til We Meet Again is on the Friday evening, and the Golden Mickey's is on the formal evening.

This is what the Western should be:

Saturday: rotation
Sunday: rotation
Monday: Formal night, Golden Mickey's
Tuesday: Pirate Night
Wednesday: rotation
Thursday: Captain's Gala menu, semi formal
Friday: Til We Meet Again

Hmm...that's odd. In the 'Ship and Shore Vacations Guides' it shows Pirates, Golden Mickey's, Master Chef and Captain's Gala, but not 'Til We Meet Again.

Our Pirate Night is Tuesday so I guess Wednesday would be rotation.

That's odd - since on one of the recent Alt Westerns the schedule (oops I did mix the pirate night up and fixed it) does have it as Formal Night = Golden Mickey's, Friday night = Til We Meet Again, and no Master Chef.

I'd say if it's important, try calling DCL and see if they can offer any information.

We just came off the 11/1 Western and based on our's you were right the first time. Monday was formal night and the golden mickey's. tuesday was our last rotation night and then Wednesday we had pirate night. thursday was captain's gala and friday was til we meet again.

I am glad that i went to palo on monday. the menu would have been my least favorite (too much blue cheese/ gorganzola)! my favorite was the lumiere's rotatational menu. the escargot was great.

Argh, so much change in the rotations, makes my head spin! Thanks for the input! :) I'll be on the Eastern next month and so far it looks like it may be the only "normal" Eastern after drydock.

And I'm absolutely looking forward to the new menus, on my side - I loooooove blue cheese but never use it at home since DH hates it. I'm vegetarian, though the vegetarian options look...less than inspiring. The turnips dish is a rustic Italian dish from the Silver Spoon cookbook as far as I can tell, and I can get sweet and sour tofu anytime. But broccoli and maytag soup? Yes please!

We're looking forward to doing Lumiere's rotation this time, since we missed it before for Palo. Skipping the Pirate dinner night to go to Palo since we found the Pirate menu fairly boring.

Me and Hubby were jusst reading the menu and going EEWWW too. Even our 18 yr old who will eat anything didn't hink it sounded good.

Isn't there like a nightly buffett?

I cruised the Magic a few weeks ago with these new menus and I am a very picky eater, simple food only for me. That said, I found something great to eat every night!!! Only one night did I eat off the lighter fare menu (and that steak was fantastic). From these menus, I thought the rack of lamb was delicious!!!

I love to try new things, and looking at some of the older menus, I saw lots of things that I could not wait to try that I would NEVER eat here at home.

That said, when each and every dish contains something you do not like (for me, mushrooms, seafood, spinach) or particular foods you just won't eat (veal, duck, lamb), that kind of puts you in a bad position.

Now, if we were allowed to be picky and ask for the dishes without certain ingredients, I am totally fine, but I have been informed that since food is prepared "en masse" that getting specified dishes is difficult.

I agree, if my DD wasn't such a pest about formal night, I would go to Palo's on formal night. Like you I do not like lamb, duck and I do not eat seafood.
On the Wonder, we ordered the ceasar salad every night and I would try whatever dish that didn't have an ingredient I didn't like. I'm thought I also wasn't picky, but I guess I don't like quite a bit.

Is anyone else turned off by those dishes. I never thought of myself as a picky eater, but very little sounded good to me. I think I'll be loosing weight on this cruise. Can adults order off the kids' menu?

I so agree :scared: not a picky eater either but the menu doesn't sound tasty. Guess I'll have the steak Again. I believe you can order off the kids menu.

The new menus sound delicious. I think the only problem I'm going to have is trying not to eat too much.
