New Menus!

the cheese souffle was SO delicious. loved it. my husband had the chilled fruit soup, i tried it & thought it could totally pass for a virgin strawberry daiquiri. lol. just blend with ice. yum!!

the servers are quite accommodating. nearing the end of our cruise i was CRAVING pasta with tomato sauce, (surprisingly there were no tomato sauce pasta dishes on any of the menus that i saw), so i asked & received some good ol' pasta w/ sauce. it was well appreciated. :)

I loved being on the ship for 15 nights, but by night 11 I was eating the baked salmon and it was great, just the salmon with steamed veg.

I found that you don't get much veg on any of the options, at home half the plate is veg, and asking for a bowl of the steamed veg made me much happier each night.

And the sugar-free desserts are sometimes more enjoyable then the fancy normal menu choices.

Pj

PJ, I was ordering extra veggies too. Next cruise, with six in the family, I think I'll order one of the vegetarian options 'for the table' also. :thumbsup2

Is anyone else turned off by those dishes. I never thought of myself as a picky eater, but very little sounded good to me. I think I'll be loosing weight on this cruise. Can adults order off the kids' menu?

Yeah, I can honestly say there is nothing, desserts included, on the Golden Mickeys menu that appeals to me at all.

It actually has me a little scared. I know I can always get the "safe" options, but I am just worried that this will be the direction DCL will go with its fare.

I understand that they are trying to appeal to those that have exotic tastes, but I think they went a little TOO over the top with the Mickeys menu.

Perhaps, when we see pictures, I may change my mind.

aloha,
Thanks for sharing the menus. Everything sounds sooooo gooooood!!!!!!! I think I'll order one of everything please!!!!!!

aloha,

I was on a cruise in Dec and I ordered a chicken breast and mashed potatoes every night. I LOVED IT. I was afraid I would get looks and grumbels or something but nothing was ever said. It was wonderful.
We went on a 7 day cruise one year and every night for dinner DD had pizza and strawberries. We would see our server during the day and he would ask if she was having her usual and it would be set down in front of her about 5 minutes or so after we were seated so she could quickly eat and go to the Lab. He would usually send her dessert back to the room with us so she wouldn't feel left out.

Broccoli and Maytag Blue Cheese Soup
Topped with Crushed Walnuts

::::::wipping the drool off my keyboard:::::::::They offered this soup on our June Mexico cruise...and OH MY GOSH it was/is the most succulent, creamy, velvety, to die for soup you will ever taste. Gosh I can NOT wait till next September.

  I know that peoples emotions and tones are VERY hard to de-cypher in emails...and I am HONESTLY not being rude..but I was trying to figure out if you were just playing around and joking?? Or if you really were put off by the up-graded food? :upsidedow

sftnslky, some folks just have simple tastes, or do not like differently spiced/seasoned foods than what they are used to...hence the reason plain grilled chicken/fish/beef are offered on every single menu.

I will say that a DCL cruise is a good time to experiment with something new, if you don't like it, they will bring you something else. (Sometimes the servers bring something to you along with what you ordered JUST IN CASE you want to try it.)

I do have to say, I had soup EVERY night of every cruise...love the DCL soups! :thumbsup2

I love to try new things, and looking at some of the older menus, I saw lots of things that I could not wait to try that I would NEVER eat here at home.

That said, when each and every dish contains something you do not like (for me, mushrooms, seafood, spinach) or particular foods you just won't eat (veal, duck, lamb), that kind of puts you in a bad position.

Now, if we were allowed to be picky and ask for the dishes without certain ingredients, I am totally fine, but I have been informed that since food is prepared "en masse" that getting specified dishes is difficult.

:) Sadly that is true..I am alergic to alcohol. If their is a dish made with it, then 95% of the time you can't get it made any other way. :sad2:

If you let DCL know you have dietary restrictions prior to boarding the chef will meet with you as soon as you board and work with you to prepare meals as needed. They actually bend over backwards to assist you.

I have never been turned down on requests to either remove an item altogether or replace something with another thing on the menu. It never hurts to ask.

Double Baked Aged Reggiano Parmesan Cheese Souffle
With Gorgonzola Blue Cheese, Spinach and Mascarpone Sauce with White Truffle Oil

Sangria Bisque
Chilled Fruit puree lightly flavored with Red Wine

These were both DELICIOUS. I would be happy to have that bisque with dinner every night for the rest of my life! :thumbsup2

Roasted Filet of Beef Wellington
Covered with Mushroom Stuffing wrapped in Puff Pastry, served with Fingerling Potatoes, Baby Vegetables, and a Cabernet Black Truffle jus

This was... not good. I love beef wellington when it's done properly - while this was better than the beef wellington on both Carnival and Royal Caribbean, I still couldn't eat more than two bites. A decidedly "alpo" taste to it. Blech.

Chilled Gazpacho
Raw tomato and vegetable soup with Calamata Crostini

Excellent gazpacho; I highly recommend it.

Lemon Peppered Oven-Baked Stuffed Chicken
Filled with Provengal Vegetables on Jalapeno Cheddar Cheese Mash
Served with Cilantro infused Tomato Concasse

Everyone in my party who had this entree reported it to be delicious - I didn't try it myself.

I must agree that the Broccoli/Maytag Blue cheese soup was to die for. The blue cheese taste wasn't overpowering as I feared it might be. Just a hint to add to the taste of the soup. Delicious!

Also loved the Ricotta Creme Brulee w/Honeyed Raspberries. Husband ordered this as second dessert, and I ended up eating it all.

Also, Butternut Squash Soup was sooo good. The more I ate, the better is was!

I did like the Lemon Peppered Oven Baked Stuffed Chicken as well, but I LOVED the jalapeno cheddar cheese mash that was served with it. Not normally into jalapenos but these were so delicious.

Seafood/Avacado Wrappers were ok.

I also have to agree with the Beef Wellington review. The middle of it, was ok, but there was part of mine that had the texture of Alpo, and I'm a big texture person when it comes to food. Also, I expected the pastry to be crispy, but it was a little soggy. (another texture that turns me off)

Now, I've done it...made myself hungry and it's way past my bedtime. :)

Here is the thing. I have gotten conflicting reports.

Some people, like yourself say that they have never had any trouble getting something they like.

Others, and what I read in the Passporter concurs, says that getting specific dishes altered is very difficult if not impossible. For example, dressing on the side of a salad or a mushroom pasta sauce without the mushrooms.

So, I guess I am trying to prepare myself for the worst.

We are sailing on the Wonder next week and I would love to try these. Are they there yet?
Thanks

I have also never had a problem getting food changed for me. I guess it might depend on what you want...?
But like a said earlier, our server offered (I didn't ask, but I would in the future) my own salad with my dressing, and seafood dishes without the seafood. He went so far as to ask me what I eat at home and offered to have something made for me!
Definitely ask them, and see what they say. They really try to please everyone :worship:

I do understand how hard it can to order some things differently than others since it is mostly prepared ahead.

I love scallops but don't care for grapefruit. That might be easier than getting the duck no cherry glaze or lamb w/o mustard. I don't like fruit and mustard is reserved for hot dogs.

I was excited to see the Beef Wellington but now disappointed in the review.
