New Menu for Nine Dragons

Not sure I'm too thrilled with the changes and the portions look very small for the price. The Honey Sesame Chicken with one small scoop of rice is $17. They took away the Sha Sha Beef Skewers and the Canton Pepper Beef. My kids would never order the 2 choices they give for kids. Maybe others will like it.

WOw, surprised that they reopened so quickly. Yep, the portions look even smaller than before, a few years back an entree got you a platter of entree and family sized portions of rice. What a difference!

ETA: In the past we would get the family dinner (for two) it got you two soups, appetizers for two (egg roll and a win ton I think) entree for each person and ice cream for each person. It was like $45 for two people. Now I see they price it per person at $24 and took away the appetizer and cut back your entree choices to three. Thanks dining plan!

I actually booked as soon as word was out they were open again and just as quickly canceled it. They dropped the General Cho's (sp?) chicken that DD really wanted. I agree the portions looked really small in the photos.

It looks beautiful, but I'm not a fan of what I consider "cafeteria" seating. Get in and get out. Even though part of the restaurant was this way in the past, there were portions where you could sit that were unique -- and what we always requested. Can't wait to see more pics or to see it for myself.

The food presentation does look better! But I wonder if they are set-up for special requests. One of my Dgang will not eat anything but beef and broccoli and the restaurant used to have no problem creating it.

Thanks for the post. We usually stop by Nine Dragons while we are at Epcot. We used to be able to order just 2 dishes for the main part of our meal and could easily split with our family of 4. Looks like it will barely fill up one adult now!

WHAT IS UP WITH THAT MENU???? They took off my FAVORITE dinner---the Savory Beef in Spicy Sauce!!!

I look forward to this every trip, and now they have taken it off (and there is nothing around locally that even comes close to this dish).

Do you think they would allow you to request it?

I used to be a fan of 9 dragons and to be honest we were very disappointed in the food and the price. The honey sesame chicken was nothing like it used to be. The restaurant was very pretty on the inside, but I thought they were adding a show kitchen, it was not there. I am not sure we will be back.

We did the same thing, DH and I would order the sampler for two and they would substitute on the Kung Pao chicken for me. We would vthen order another honey sesame chicken and order of egg rolls it was often too much food for the four of us. We began to notice the platters portion size shrinking, the last time we did that the platter ws gone and it was three pre plated entrees with three scoops of rice. Younger DD grabbed one for herself, leaving DH, myself and older DD to share a scoop of sesame chicken, a scoop of Kung Pao chicken and two scoops of rice. Our last visit was in January, the last day they were open before closing for this extemsive renovation with show kitchen. We had decided to try the DDP due to the holiday pricing at so many restaurants. We were allowed to get two of the family dinners for two, after they discussed it among themselves. THe portions were miniscule, but actually I believe they were bigger than what I am seeing in these photos :rotfl: I told DH that they had reopened ( we go in 5 weeks) and when he saw the photos of the portions he said that he thinks we should just skip it. :sad2:

I know, what happened to the supposed guest interaction withe the chefs. I think they are going to be sorry for the changes they made. We used to go for lunch every trip. I think we'll skip it this time too.

We have eaten there for the past 3 years and really enjoyed it. I saw the pictures of the food on another web site and was extremely disappointed in the serving size and menu. I also thought it was an open kitchen concept, and that was the reason for the rehab.

I've always wondered what would happen if you complained to the server and the manager on duty about the portion size. What if they delivered your meal and you said, "No. That is not worth $17. There use to be more food for the same price. Go bring me more food. I am not paying that much for that little." Would they say no? Would they offer something else? Would they not charge you? What if you refused to leave until they brought you an "adequate" portion of food, say, twice the amount of the honey chicken that we now see on that plate (which is actually the amount the used to give us.)

I'm not trying to start a war here, but I am curious if anyone has ever stood up for themselves in this regard. I've never come across a problem of small portions outside of WDW, except at four-star restaurants, but they are known for small portions over several courses. I firmly believe that if people only complain in an e-mail or letter to Disney Customer Service after their vacation, no changes will ever be made. But if you say something right then and there... What do you think the WDW restaurant would do?

OMG! I thought those were appetizers! The portions are much too small for us. I think we will stick to the Biergarten - oink oink!!;) :lmao:

I ate there last night and I had the Kung Pao chicken, it was really delicious and I thought the portion size was decent but not excellent. My friend chose the steak and shrimp and the portion size was tiny! We were on the DDP so we weren't too bothered, but I wouldn't have paid that much for such a small portion.

I believe they would give you a bigger portion, it is Disney after all, they are there to make the guests happy.

This is our favorite restaurant at Epcot. I'm glad they will be open for our trip in December. The portions last December were great, but the ones pictured in the link are awfully small for the price. Talk about cutting back quantity and pricing it higher; sheesh!

My family and I have been fans of Nine Dragons for years now, and some of the Cast even recognized us when we went back a few days ago. For the most part our experience was pretty positive, but there is room for improvement.

Because it was mid-afternoon the place was mostly empty, and I had a fairly long chat with someone from Disney, who was surprisingly open about the challenges they're working on. They're still tweaking the menus, and he actually said that they're bringing back the Canton Pepper Beef soon. Why no open kitchen, as previously announced? His English wasn't perfect, but the jist seemed to be that it was just too expensive and not worth it to tear down that wall and do one.

As for the portion sizes, there was an attempt to be reassuring that they're working on that too. But, there was also rationalizing about higher food costs and the expense of renovation. All in all, it was understable, but still kinda hard to take.

But, overall a pretty good experience - food, service, and a new ambience were welcome.

We have been to WDW 5 times and have never even been tempted to eat at Nine Dragons. That certainly won't change now.

We always enjoyed our meals here, but like the pp said, my children will not order or eat either of the 2 childrens offerings so we will not be dining there. It is really sad because my DD still talks about her little chicken bites that they served in a little boat with the sweet sauce. :sad1: Sweet and Sour noodles just don't sound appealing at all. :sad2:

After viewing the pics, all I can say is, where is the food? cause I am thinking the waitress dropped half of it on the way to the table :lmao: my 2 yr old little boy would eat that and not be full:rotfl: a true shame
