New members as of yesterday and wishing for the best!!

For those who will inevitable come in here to educate this women, as someone whose never been to one of these sessions on DCL are they that uninformative as I'm led to believe by this thread? I mean not even educating as to what a home resort is?

That was my first thought as well. I realize that this comment of mine does not help the OP but really? How could the sessions/DVC guides be that bad on DCL? It seems appalling.

To quote a regular: you don't buy DVC to use it as a trade, it is a poor use of points: you buy DVC because you plan on staying at WDW (or Aulani) for many years, and you want access to quality accommodations.

The number one mantra: buy where you want to stay. It is not a guarantee that you will always be able to stay anywhere else.

Agreed on buy where you want to stay. Trading out is a poor use of points. Similarly Disney can always change the rules on the exchange option (and they have done this in the past). My understanding is that all we really bought was a certain number of points that we could use for a certain number of nights (and know that DVC regularly redistributes the number of points needed) at DVC resorts and with a guaranteed home resort advantage (currently now 11 months vs 7 months but the "length" of advantage can be changed by DVC).

I am not going to recommend canceling or buying resale, since you never asked. I will say this board can be a great resource BUT doesn't mean it is fool proof. If you do have immediate questions, besides asking here I would contact DVC office and confirm.

This is a very good point about us (myself included) going on tangents that the OP doesn't ask about.

They are timeshare sales people, their job is not really to educate but to sell the timeshare. As soon as people understand that FACT, they start to question things they should question.

If the OP has indeed put down a deposit (or paid cash if not financing), when the docs are signed one would be sitting down with a QA manager whose job it is to go over ALL the documents and explain how membership works. It sounds like perhaps the OP signed and is doing her docs via mail out?? I cannot imagine having gone through the process required to buy DVC and not understand home resort priority….

While I agree with you, it should never happen, it does all the time with retail purchases. But it should never happen based on the buyers educating themselves, not the sales person's responsibility. I'd say that most DVC sales people do explain it in part to push the benefits of home resort priority for that option (VGF & Poly for example) or to let you know how easy it is at 7 months out (SSR situation).

I hear ya, Dean but I was not referring to the sales guide when I mentioned the person that sits down with each brand new member to sign all the docs. That role is that of the QA manager. It is THEIR job to go over how the membership works as they explain all the documents. It really sounds like the OP has not gone through the doc signing yet. If they have they should report that they didn't even know there WAS a home resort, and though I truly love my DVC membership of 22 years, I would have to say the OP may want to seriously consider rescinding until they can get better informed.

Thanks. They never want to do this in such a way that causes people to cancel. I agree it sounds like they may not have officially signed but I couldn't tell for certain. Often when I post there is consideration for past thread's and opinions on that subject more than the thread at hand and this is indeed applicable here.

:cutie: Well, that makes 2 of us, Dean. I don't know either but it sure sounds like the OP did not yet sign the docs. Hopefully they will come back here to update us.
