New member wants to purchase less than 125 points direct

Which resort did you purchase? I thought I remembered reading not all properties could be split like this??

I didn't take the plunge yet, just called to ask some questions. I'm considering OKW.

Well with this new member minimum of 125 is just going to push more people to resale. While having new members purchase at least 125 would help some with studios. 125 points costs a lot more than it did 5-7 years ago and RIV is a point hungry resort.

Wow this is awesome information. Thanks for asking this question OP!

I'm a poly resale owner and taking two trips next year...so I could buy 50pt one trip and 75 another? It's awesome to know I could split up the cost (I'm in Canada so can only purchase at the resort in person).

Yup, after purchasing my initial resale contract, I went ahead and bought 75 SSR direct, then before the price increase in January bought 50 BLT to fulfill my blue card requirement. My guide said the blue card will be the accumulation of direct points to qualify.

New buyers can buy a fixed week even with the 10% extra that you pay for when you buy one can still be less than 125. New buyers do not have to buy 125 points. 125 is needed for blue card benefits.
Dont know anything about fixed weeks since we aren't interested in that but the 125 minimum for new buy ins is a fact according to more than one guide we have spoken to as well as contact made through the website chat.

I’d have thought you don’t have to be there in person to buy if you’re from Canada. We’ve just bought in the last few days and we’re in the UK.

Unless you reside in one of two provinces you have to be there in person if you are purchasing from a timeshare developer. It's a Canadian (provincial even) requirement so wouldn't apply to the UK.

Wow. Never knew that. I assume that’s UK and USA?
I'm not sure if there are any requirements at all for the UK and USA, I don't think there are?

It's just from the Canadian side (provincial - there are still 2 provinces here that don't require this) so it wouldn't affect the UK.

Don't know about the UK, but in the US, it's dependent on the state in which the buyer resides. DVD must comply with a state's regulations for each resort it wishes to sell to that state's residents. The various states' regulations are not all the same. The guides will not even talk to you about DVC (via phone or email) if DVD is not authorized to sell in your state.

I can’t square the 125 point minimum with Disneyland Tower DVC. Disneyland is for 2-4 night stays. They don’t even sell tickets longer than 5 days. And almost the entire thing is studios. So 4 nights at 25 points a night = 100. So what I do with my other points? Bank forever?

Would it be that much different from when the minimum was 230 when DVC first started? That is a lot of nights for WDW given the OKW point chart.

Given Disneyland's different guest mix (much higher %age of drive-to visits) it's not hard to see the target market mostly people who visit a few times per year for e.g. long weekends. It's also not hard to imagine a lot of Left-Coast folks banking a few extra points each year for the every-so-often trip to Aulani.

Edited to add: Also possible that the minimum here will be lower. The blue card benefits at Disneyland are few and far between, and that may not be an important driver of sales.

I take your point, but I guess the difference to me is that Old Key West is mostly 2 bedrooms and Disneyland DVC is mostly studios and pods.

Maybe it will be popular with Angels fans.

Disneyland will probably be 350 points a night for a pod the way they gouge for their hotels out there.

In all seriousness, they could easily set the minimum lower for that property when it goes on sale. They already have a different minimum for add-ons at CCV and RIV (50 vs 25 everywhere else).

Another thought. Don’t a lot of people who visit Disneyland closer to it so they do more than one trip a year?

But, anyone who has had to meet a minimum..it was 160 when I bought..who wanted studios would be faced in the same situation!!

We always do five to seven nights when we go to DL-five days in park, some beach or pool time. My husband went to college in Southern California and would spend the whole week at the beach and visiting his buddies if he had his way, and the kids love a beach day. We are West Coasters but the ocean is colllllld where we live.

I am disappointed by the room configuration at the new resort. We typically get a 2 bedroom at the Grand because we are traveling with 6 or more and it’s a bummer to see so few. Of course, point cost on those will probably be pure insanity.
