Hi to everyone! I have searched the boards but can't find the answer to my questions.
I have been reading the boards for about a year and enjoy everyones posts and help.

My question is, we just received our package for joining the DVC/Saratoga Springs after giving our first deposit.(went on the tour in July)
I called my guide but she has not called back as of yet.
The contract as it is now is in my dh name. If it is in his name only, am I eligible for any member benefits? Would I get my own card, etc?
My other question is credit. If I were to add myself to the paper work, would they check both our credit reports or only my dh's?I do not work, credit issues in the past, and would prefer only my dhs credit/income to be used.
Is this possible if putting both our names on the contract?

Sorry if this has been answered before or is a "dumb" question, I am hoping that someone here maybe has been in the same circumstance as I and may know the answer.

Sorry I don' have any answers for you but I am sure very soon the experts here can help you. I am in process on closing on my DVC Resale and do not know but I wanted to be the first to wish you,

Welcome Home!

Thank you Mary! I am very excited about this and already looking at the calendar to go next year!

Better check with your guide, but if you want to be on the deed, your credit record will most likely be included. However, since Disney does have considerable control even after the purchase, it's not likely that your inclusion would negatively affect getting the credit thru Disney. I have never seen a report of anyone being denied credit- a few have reported they needed to pay a larger deposit.

You would still have access to member benefits as long as you reside in the same household (AP discounts) and are listed as an associate member (making reservations) even if you are not included on the deed.

I'd still ask about being on the contract unless there are personal reasons why you shouldn't be included.

... Welcome to the DIS! :)

Thank you for the info! I appreciate it.
I am pretty sure my credit "should" be ok, it is actually past things caused by a sister who "pretended" to be me...long story...but I just wanted to be sure, I'd hate to be the cause of being turned down when I know we would have no problem with just my dh alone.

Congratulations & Welcome Home!

HAPPY "MAGICAL" VACATIONING,
Tom :sunny:

KM,

You might want to check your credit report on the annualcreditreport dot com site. You're now entitled to get a free report from each of the big three credit reporting agencies once a year.

Thank you! I appreciate the information and the welcome! I have called my guide again, still waiting for a return call.

I am in the process of closing my contract. I told my guide that I wanted my son's father (we are not married) to have all of the member benefits but did not want him on the deed. He said it was no problem. If things did not end up working out then I could yank his priviledges. I don't remeber exactly how he called it but he said not to worry that there is a way. I am not sure how it would work if you did want to be included on the deed.

That's a description of Associate Member.

Best wishes -

Thank you Ethan Baby and CarolMN....

I see on my paperwork I am listed as associate. Does that mean if my dh is not with me, I will have my own card and be entitled to and member discounts etc.?

sorry for the questions, still waiting on my return call...

thanks for the help!

Associate members do not receive ID cards, and would only be eligible for certain perks if traveling with the deeded owner (who has the member ID.)

In Ethan Baby's case her SO would not be elgible for the Annual Pass discount. By definition, in order to be eligible for that perk one must be a legal relative of the owner and live at the same residence.

Thanks tjkraz! I did not know that my SO would not qualify for all the benefits. My guide made it seem like he would be entitled to all the same benefits. I am going to call my guide and ask about that because my intent is for him to be able to take my son whether I go or not and still be able to have the same perks. Hmm...he has really bad credit so I don't want him considered in the financing either. I may just have to add him to the deed after it is all said and done. Goodness, I thought I had it all worked out.

thank you tjkraz. I will definately check on all the options when my guide calls back. I am guessing if we do it in dh name only, he'd have to be there with me to receive any/all member benefits..

KM164 - You can have it all.

After you close on the property in your DH's name (and I am assuming you are over 18 years old), he can request that you be added to the deed. At that time, you will be able to have all the perks of DVC membership.

This is also helpful if you think your credit may jeopardize the deal.

Hope that helps you.

thanks LauraJean1014.. quick question though. after closing, if he were to add me to the deed, wouldn't that require a title change and/or additional cost?
I have no fear we will be approved in just my dh name, I am just nervous to add me at the start of it as I do not want to chance them turning us down because of me! I am very excited to join the dvc, and it took 3yrs to get my dh to agree!

I do not believe there is a cost. Check with your rep, if there is, it maybe $50 (roughly $1 a year).

I inquired because we want our son to be on the deed when he is 18. A few years ago, when we asked, there was no charge. :dog:

Thank you! that is great to know and I will definately ask her as soon as I speak to her.
