Oof, so this isn't exactly a good introduction into DVC but I'm gonna have to power through lol. Sorry, this is going to be kind of rant-ish.

I received my One-Time Activation Code but didn't receive my Club ID number so I wasn't able to log on. I was able to retrieve it from my sales rep and it eventually also showed up in the documents I needed to eSign.

Unfortunately, whilst attempting to log in with my ID and code, I got a "Please enter a valid Club ID" error so I haven't been able to verify my membership and now I've been on hold for 30+ minutes. SMH

Before this though, I did my orientation and new member courtesy reservation. I was a bit disappointed with the experience. The person I was connected to was kind of short with me but they were able to answer most of my questions. My issue was when it came to booking/asking for the courtesy hold. My vacation isn't until December 2022 and December is my use year. The stay I wanted was 297 points so I either had to:

  • Immediately bank 200 UY2022 Points and use 97 of my UY2023 Points
  • Bank only 97 and use all 200 UY2023 points and have 103 left for the current UY
The orientation rep didn't ask and just went ahead with banking all 200 UY21 points. I would have wanted option 2. The rep said that, if needed, I could borrow up to 100 points from UY23 so it's mostly a wash. She offered to call back but made it sound like they wouldn't have the inventory if we switched the reservation around (or something like that). Can anyone give me insight on this? Am I understanding how it all works?

Either way, again, I just felt like they were a bit short with me and it almost felt unnecessary with the exception of the courtesy booking. Oh and when I first called, the wait time was said to be 6 minutes. It was more like 1 hour.

The truth is, I get why they are short or rushing through without explicitly saying so---they are probably bogged down by call after call so instead of asking more questions, I just went ahead and finished the call---then I ran into the logging-in/verification problem. And now I'm on hold again.

I hope whatever issues that's been apparently plaguing the system since the end of 2021 get fixed soon.

TL;DR - On hold long time. Felt rushed. Got courtesy reservation with caveat. Can't log in. DVC need fix online system.

First , a 30 minute wait is GREAT.
MANY of calls wait time will be hours.

Take a breath , it will take many bookings and interactions with system /CM before if makes sense.

Is there any reason you wouldn't want them to bank your 2021?
Mostly putting this here because I'm about to be new and want to make sure I have it right.

If I have the count right Dec Use Year must be banked by July 31st. (might be end of august)
And you can borrow 50% in advance

They banked all your 2021 points, that gives you 400 points to use available Dec 2022
Then booked your vacation using 297 points
So you have 103 left in your Dec 2022 year
100 of those points you could "borrow" if you want to make a reservation before Dec 2022
They did this to make sure you won't lose any points and you have all your points for 2023 and forward

2021 UY - 200 points good until Nov 30, 2022 ( banked 200, none left )
2022 UY - 200 points good until Nov 30, 2023 ( 400 - 297 = 103 left )( can borrow 100 or bank 103 )
2023 UY - 200 points good until Nov 30, 2024 ( 200 left )

It ended up being just over an hour lol. I suppose that's still good considering what you just said haha.

So apparently a Club ID is different than Membership Number. It was the Club ID I needed to verify the DVC membership. I feel kind of dumb now because that Club ID was buried in the contract--I just didn't notice it haha.

2022 UY - 200 points good until Nov 30, 2023
2023 UY - 200 points good until Nov 30, 2024

Yes, I would have until July 31 to use or bank my current UY points.

I guess in the end it doesn't really matter since I can always borrow those 100 points to use this year. At least now i don't have to worry about banking the points in case I forget.

That's why I do eveything I can online so point usage is the way I want it. You could always call and ask for them to reverse that transaction and do it the second way and they may since you just purchased.

To add though - the first booking offer that I'm aware of is an offer for reservations within the 1st six months of purchasing as it's a possibility that what you want may already be booked and may make you hesitate to purchase. DVC may have their own inventory they can access to get you a stay and it's really a purchase incentive. So asking for a 11 month booking was an oddity. That might be why the CM was a little more short. Some people have been turned down when requesting anything further out than 6 months.

DVC just introduced a new digital membership card. It appears many are having problems with it. This probably is why you had to wait so long.

Eh I kind of felt like they were a bit short from the beginning but being in a customer-interacting position myself, I totally understand. It just rained on my excitement a bit. In my head I was thinking the orientation call would be super exciting haha.

I didn't realize there was an internal policy about courtesy holds that you mentioned... I figured that since my trip was planned 11 months out already that it wouldn't be a problem to book it since that would be my booking window anyway. I told my sales CM from the beginning that I already had a vac planned far out and he said it would be no problem.

I did ask to see if there were any Club Level or Value rooms available but there were not, sadly.

DVC just introduced a new digital membership card. It appears many are having problems with it. This probably is why you had to wait so long.

I've heard of that debacle. Sounds like a hot mess.
