he everyone..im a new listener about a month in and im so glad i found the show. they make me laugh and theres great info. heres a question..dont know if this has been spoken about but we are going in oct and were staying in a friends timeshare( marriot cypress)this wil be our second trip staying there..its a 2bedroom/ 2bath suite with full kitchen. for 6 of us u cant beat the price at $400 for the week HOWEVER my question is..is it really worth staying at disneys deluxe resorts?? does it really make the experience a whole lot better?? we ate at boma last time and fell in love with animal kingdom but in order for us to stay there we'd probably have to save up for like 2 years..is it worth it? is there another resort anyone recommends? thanks...

If you have never stayed on Disney property at all I highly recommend it- at least once!!! It is so much fun to be immersed in the magic 24-7. The nicest Disney property I have ever stayed in was Old Key West (because it was a gift from someone with DVC). I know what you mean about the price- but maybe try one of the moderate resorts- I love all of them! Or maybe wait for a really good package deal, or maybe stay off property for really cheap and then treat yourself with two nights at a deluxe resort or something. Have a wonderful trip and WELCOME to the crazy Dis Unplugged board :cheer2:

We just stayed off site for the first time and we LOVED it. Previously we have stayed on property at either a Value or Moderate (I can't bring myself to pay for Deluxe!) and while it was nice to be on site - the ability to spread out and have a kitchen was far more valuable that being on property. Plus, I am a cheapskate - so $400 for the week would be enough to get me to stay off property. I'd much rather use the money we saved to do special things throughout the week - or to go again! - than to stay in a Deluxe.

Hi Dana! ~~~ Welcome to the best Disney board anywhere! :yay:

I do believe staying on property is worth it, I also love the deluxe resorts, BUT I also had a wonderful stay off site at Marriott Grand Vistas. Huge rooms, full kitchen, TONS of space. I used to be an "On Property Snob" but I now see the appeal of staying off property too. I would never stay in a regular hotel off property, but in a villa or townhouse type place I definitely would. And you most definitely can't beat $400 for 6 people in a 2 bedroom/2 bath! You would need to get 2 rooms at a Disney resort, so quadruple that $400! In your situation I'd stick with Marriott Cypress.

Dana1003,

First off welcome to the boards, there are a lot of amazing people here. My suggestion would to be check out the Hotel and Accommodations board. You will get lots of different input both pro and con and then you can decide what works best for you. I find I get the most info for a decision by asking specific questions about my concerns and then watch all the DIS’ers help me make my decision.

My input is to stay off property if it means your trip would be sooner than waiting for the 2 years to save up. Just one man’s opinion.

Good Luck,
Don

I'm in agreement with the previous comments. I prefer staying onsite in the "Disney Bubble". But if I had a 2 BR/BA villa for $400 a week, and I knew I enjoyed staying there, I'd rather save my money vs. Disney resorts. I can tell you right now that the regular rooms at the Deluxe resorts will not compare to a nice 2 BR timeshare villa. (And I own DVC at Beach Club Villas, for what it's worth.)

I think you should save the money if it meant you could take the trip earlier than two years from now.

I'll join you in that opinion.
We have never stayed on-site (although conversely at Disneyland Paris, have never stayed offsite!) and I don't think I would be tempted to when we're there next (year, hopefully :lmao:). For just a little bit more money than staying in Pop Century, we could stay again at the Hyatt Regency Grand Cypress, where we stayed for our wedding in October, and absolutely loved!!
Plus there's all the benefits of eating, shopping etc off-site too, especially when you hire a car like we (and a lot of us Brits) do when there.

Obviously there are lots of benefits to staying onsite too, but seeing as how we havent done it I just wanted to speak up for the off-site crowd :)

Oh and welcome to the boards, this place is great :)

:goodvibes
