Does anyone know how long the magic bands last? I feel like I heard they have about a 2 year shelf life? Has anyone else heard this? If I knew they would last a long time I would probably buy all the fun bands!

I wonder how that works seeing when you purchase one in the parks it has to be activated at time of purchase. The only ones available for purchase without linking is the solid coloured ones.

On the order form, it said call them to discuss activation options.

Unless it was family I wouldn't trust it. I went to the site the pp mentioned and I don't know something seems fishy to me about it. Maybe I'm wrong but I definitely wouldn't be purchasing a band threw them.

Hope in the future they will let you buy these "limited edition" magic bands and use them in the future. It looks like my husband and I can't make a trip to WDW this year, but I really would have liked to have bought him the Haunted Mansion band to use on our next trip.

The long range battery should last 2 or 3 years. The RFID chip itself should last indefinitely. In other words once that battery dies, the band will work where it is touched to scanners, but not in instances like the photo service where it will automatically read your ride photos without your having to touch it to anything. Or the bit where they are able to find you at BoG lunch just by using the magic band.

Now that's a website seriously devoted to exorbitant capitalism. I think I'm in the wrong business!

I just got off the phone with that website and although the site asks you if you will be sending your magic band in to them or having them buy you a ticket to go with it - this is apparantly out dated information.

According to them, all their magic bands are now "link it later". She tells me I can purchase one, and have it activated upon arrival at the parks. In my case I have a vacation booked in Dec of 2015, so I won't be receiving my "basic" bands until November of 2015. Between now and then there is likely going to be new options offered by disney to upgrade the basic bands, but in the mean time - if I want my daughter to have an Elsa magic band I can apparently purchase one via the website and activate it upon arrival.

I just saw the 2017 limited edition one for the 45th anniversary and have to say how disappointing it is. The design, the colors, ugh
