New land to be announced at Magic Kingdom (Not a joke)

I wish that that space could go toward a Matterhorn. That ride was extremely fun in DL-I think it would be GREAT in WDW. Anyone know why it isn't in WDW?

Yes but MK is over thirty years old. Why hasn't a Matterhorn been done sinnce 1972. What prompted the decision back then?

My guess is they wouldn't replace a playground they just opened, especially since its a Pooh playground with Pooh right across the walkway. But perhaps, as somebody else said, its just going to use the rest of the land that the Pooh playground doesn't use.

Additions are great, but I have to admit I'd be surprised by an addition like this to MK. All three other parks just seem to be in far greater need. But then again, I wouldn't have built MGM and AK with so few attractions to begin with.

Its hard to really visualize what the area looks like, even from the pictures. One fear, already expressed by YoHo I think, is that they won't build exact replicas, but will build cheaper versions, as they did with Pooh.

Guess we'll find out more one way or the other within a few weeks.

I agree totally. But if you read Al Lutz's artcile from today, he makes you believe that the WDW folks feel MK has been left to rot a bit. He's referring to the older rides, but if that is the prevailing thought at WDW, then additions would seem likely...in general. Specifcally, this seems like something that would be a huge success, but perhaps a bit redundant here.

I'll never understand why The Matterhorn didn't make it into the original Magic Kingdom in FL. At this point, I can't imagine them making that move. The Little Mermaid area sounds good...to see 20,000 Leagues get the boot for the Pooh Playground is really dumb.

Maybe just some refurbishing is in order. They redid Tomorrowland and a bit of Advnetureland. Maybe Fanstasyland or Frontierland needs some redoing.

To me it sounded like Al was pointing out how the WDW folks have not been maintaining or upgrading the rides to the degree that DL has been over the past 5-7 years. Before they add "cheap spinners" (to use an AV term), I'd much rather see them clean things up, spruce up the ride technology (I can hear the ride mechanism from Spaceship Earth creaking all the way up here in Michigan) and generally plus the existing rides. Once that happens, they should bring in new rides (of the same caliber of the newly spruced up rides) to replace all the shut-down and seasonal attractions... And as far as I'm concerned, that shouldn't include Ariel-land...

I'd hate to see at Matterhorn at WDW because that attraction is one of the few that is only at one park (yes, I understand Everest is similar). I also really doubt Disney would make a major addition to Mk

The Pooh Playground only takes up a small portion of the former 20,000 leagues area. They can easily add the ariel location and keep pooh.

It IS in the original MK.


And the reason why it never made it to Florida is because back then, they weren't so prone to cloning like they are now. They actually tried to make the two parks somewhat different from each other.

I like MiceAge, but they are extremely biased toward DL.

I do like DL's Fantasyland A LOT though. But yeah - MiceAge is very pro-DL to the extent of sometimes being anti-WDW.

Mermaid Lagoon has, I believe, two rides outside and three rides inside. In addition, the interior houses a playground, a restaurant, a shop, and an enormous theater.

The interior portion is ALL underground and it's enormous. However, it's so well themed that you never have the feeling of being in a warehouse.

Three of the rides have already appeared at Disney's California adventure: Jumping Jellyfish, Francis's Ladybug Boogie (or whatever the mini-teacup is called), and Flik's Flyers. I have not been on these rides in Tokyo DisneySea, but in DCA my daughter, age 4, loved all three and we rode them repeatedly.

While the rides are not appealing to adults without kids, adults who take in the show, restaurant, and shop will kill a good two hours.

It's a great place and would make a terrific addition to the Magic Kingdom. Those without children are generally less generous about these types of additions.

I have only seen pictures, and I will admit that it looks like they did a very good job on it.

But reading your post made me ask myself, Is it a good addition if they are basically carny spinners and rides, designed only for kids, but done really well?

There was no announcement, other than some YOAMD stuff, but nothing about new rides or DVCs.
