New June - Team Hakuna Matata!

.

Denise - What are ugly tomatoes?

I usualy buy the ones on the vine in the store and they are more expensive but the "ugly" ones were available. They are ripened on the vine - bigger and usually come packed with a nice cushion of foam. It's like you went into someones garden and pick a tomato, not pretty all the time but very yummy.

I bought 2 and you have to use them almost the same day or they start to go.

Hi everybody!!

I did 2 2.5 mile walks today for a total of 5 miles. Dave thinks I am increasing my miles to quickly, but I pointed out I am only increasing 1 mile per week. I am being careful not to injure myself.

Hope ya'll have a great night!

Erica:)

:wave2: Everyone!

Way To Go, Erica! :hippie: is just concerned you will push to hard and have a set back :goodvibes

Denise, I am a tomato lover, but never tried the Ugly Tomatoes so I will have to look for them the next time I go to the store. Do you eat them like a regular fresh garden tomato on salads, etc? I like toast with melted provolone cheese, sprinkle of basil, and topped with sliced tomato for breakfast. :goodvibes

Scott, 700 miles is a short day trip (?)

Life is crazy...I have had to readjust my gym schedule again. I am trying for early morning gym time on Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday. I have no idea how I am going to fit the 4th gym workout in. :rolleyes1

Margie I'll be right over for breakfast. Can I have 2 of those? I eat a lot of tomatoes and actually lots of food in general. My metabolisum (sp) is back to after burner so I can eat lots of good stuff and maintain my weight. I've been maintaining right at 164/165 for a couple of months now. My waist is still shrinking so I'm happy with that.

Today will be short walk day but a varity of stuff: walk, weights, calistetics, stretching and pool sprinting. I like to do this now and then for a change of pace.

Have a great day y'all.

Hello gang! I'm running late for work today so just popping in to say hi!

Got my 3 miles in last night with no dizziness!! :faint: I'm scheduled for 4 miles plus strength tonight and I have all the time in the world since DBF will be out at a stunt bike event. :moped: LOL..I hate using the moped guy for that, but it's the closest thing to his bike! :lmao: Also..it's Stunt Fest weekend here in NE Ohio and I'll be at events all weekend. So please forgive me if I am absent. I promise not to slack on my training!!

Hope you guys all have a beautiful day!!

It'll be a long day for my husband Mark! He worked till 7 last night, this is a man that usually starts working at 6am so it was a long day. He agreed to walk with me in the morning so at 5am my alarm went off and we were out the door by 5:10. He has a dr's appt at 8 then a full dayof work. He'll come home and have a cat nap around 5 but at 6:30 tonight he's set to appear in the movie my son is working on. Mark is a cowboy at heart and does a lot of re-enactments or skits with his fellow cowboys. So he will be a cowboy tonight at a "costume party" within the movie. An opportunity to play a cowboy in a movie, a dream come true even if it isn't a western! This is an independent film with a lot of young people involved, I can't remember the exact title I think it's Mystery gang. There is an actor from 30 Rock that is in it and my daughter did meet him the other night when her car was used. She said he was very nice. So we did our 4 miles this morning and I shaved off a minute  54 min to do the 4. So tonight I'll be alone with the cats enjoying my quiet time. I have 11 miles so far this week and I think that will be it unless we go out Friday night. I have PT a 7am and I go to work after that so I have to be presentable early.

Erica - you know how you feel and you can always go back to less if you need to. I'd like to increase my mileage but unless we build up some speed time is not on our side.

Funwalker, that sounds like a breakfast of champions!

Villans Rock - enjoy your weekend!

Lynn & Scott, and new foods to share?

Time to fire up the desk here at work.

Have a good one.

denise

I did get my run in yesterday morn and in Wyoming 700 miles is a short day. really.

The tomatoes sound great, have done something similar.

Will get Lynn to type up the yellow rice recipe.

Sounds like all are doing well with their training and that is fantastic. You guys rock.

I was tired this morn so just went to work. Hope the weather hold and I will get a run in this evening.

Today is Bike to work day, so maybe a bike ride tonight instead of a run. We will see.

Have a meeting here at work early this afternoon, gotta convince an Atty to do the right thing, always a challenge.

Have a good one.

Good Morning Team!

It is nice here today, but the wind just kicked it up a notch! It was not supposed to be windy today, so I will see if it calms down a bit. It is not supposed to be hot today - high of 75 - so I am not in a hurry to get out the door this morning. Today is cross training, and if the wind stays reasonable, I will go for a bike ride - I have discovered that biking in the wind is a whole lot worse than walking in the wind!

I will try to get the yellow rice and chicken recipe typed up tonight. Have a great day everyone!

Hi Everyone,

I haven't posted in a while. Just wanted to say hi. Training and eating have been going well for me. I'm just so super busy at work and home. I have a 5K race this weekend. First race since the Minnie so I'm looking forward to that. Hopefully things will slow down for me soon and I can get back to reading the Disboards.

Have a great day everyone!!
Cindy

Hi everyone! It's raining ... again. With all this cool wet weather, you'd think I lived in Vancouver instead of Toronto. Went for a long walk last night - I walked from DF's house back to my house. It was about 4.6 miles.

I talked to my dad last night he offered to get me a Garmin 405 as an early birthday present! I thought it was funny after all this talk of Garmins, Nike + ... but I do feel somewhat guilty about it.

Margie - Can I come over for breakfast too? I only wish I could make my breakfasts that interesting!

Cindy - Nice to see you again! Good luck with your race this weekend! Remember to come back and let us know how things went.

Eva - Glad to hear you're feeling better! It sounds like you've got a great weekend planned! Hope you have lots of fun :)

Denise - That's great that the production was able to get someone from 30 Rock on board! If the film has a website, I'd love to see it. I can PM you with the site for the film that I worked on - not sure if we're allowed to post it.

Lynn - Looking forward to more of your great recipes!!

Dave - Great job with the weight loss!

Hi all!!!

Just got back a few minutes ago from doing a nice, hot, humid 3 miler for ultramm. This was the best one since I started back. I was able to do some toe roll offs on that pesky left foot. Pace also felt faster, though I did not time it. I am awaiting my Nike+sport bracelet that should be here today. Once I get it I will be starting to time my walks!!

Connie, here is my walking totals for this week: 13 mi
Mon-6mi
Tue-2mi
Wed-5mi
Thu-3mi (this walk is ultramm's).

The rest of the week will be work and core workouts.

Hope every body has a really great day!

Erica:)

Did my lower body gym workout this morning, 15 miles on the bike, 60 ball crunches, stretching, and walked with my little Hagen for 3.3 - was thinking maybe I would go out for another short later tonight, but the energy has left the body! But yes, I will still go do a few flexibility Pilates :yay:

I used to drive 35 miles one way to work and had to come up with quick un-messy breakfasts that I could eat on the road - that was one of my favorites. ::yes::

Erica, it sounds like your toes are doing better everyday! WOW, Great mileage while recovering :thumbsup2

CONGRATULATIONS on all the new TOYS - a few Garmin 405's this month & one at least Nike... KWEL :cool1:

Eva, does your DF compete in the Stunt Biking events? It looks like fun but way easy to break things I would rather not :rotfl2:

Mark was asking me this morning how many miles I had on my sneakers and I didn't know so I thought I'd check the roster to see how many I had for the year and I see that nothing has been updated on the teams for the month of May or June. I have no idea what I've done since the end of April. Please some one tell me that it's not in no-where land???

Is there another place I should be checking besides Google?

denise

Got me on the roster, Dave will know.

Got a run in this morning felt strong and fast, got home late yesterday 13 hours, and I was a little rung out. So I did nothing. I did open the garmin box and got it charging. I wanted to get out and run this morn and not try to learn a new device. SO will play with it later today.

I want to get outta here early, but not too sure now. A computer program I wanted to have run all last night crashed so I have restarted it this morn. looks like it should only take a couple of hours. I hate computers.

Lowes flyer has a deal that says they will deliver dry wall anywhere you want if ya buy 50 sheets or more, we will need about 65 to finish the basement, If they will get it to the basement for me that will save a whole lotta time. It is a one sheet at a time process. We will see what they say.

Lynn did get the yellow rice and chicken typed up. I think I might add a bit more Saffron and also toss in more onion and bell peppers, for more veggies.

Well enjoy the day be strong, you all are making such great progress.

Good morning everyone! Happy Friday - the weekend is finally here  I'm hoping the sunny weather stays with us even though there are forecasts of showers and thunderstorms. I'm keeping my fingers crossed!

I was wondering if anyone had ideas for me ... I was invited to a BBQ tomorrow by someone from work and was asked to bring dessert. I don't really know anyone who's going so I don't know what to bring. I'm also trying to stay away from refined sugars this month so I thought of bringing a fruit tray but I think they might be expecting something else. Maybe a tray of brownies or cookies? Of course, that's pretty tempting too! Maybe a small fruit plate and a couple other things?

Erica - Those are some impressive numbers! Good job :goodvibes

Scott - Let us know how you like the 405. Did you get it with or without the heart rate monitor?

Denise - I think Connie has been having IT issues so I'm not sure about the Google spreadsheet. I lost the link a while ago so I haven't checked on it in a while.

Margie - Wow! You're really working it in the gym girl! I don't think I could even manage 30 crunches. WTG!

Everybody else - Have a great weekend! And keep up the great work :)

The old spreadsheet was impossible he new one that you can get to by going to the first thread on the WISH Events section and click on the link. It is kept up by team totals the other way just didn't work. This one will give you the updated team standings.

But yes sweet Captain Connie has had a huge load of stuff on her plate with all her normal stuff and then covering for a family member.

I was having a discussion with someone on the Journals section about bragging about your accomplishments. I told him that strutting your stuff is perfectly acceptable. We like reading about real accomplishmnents. The midia is loaded with false claims about how you can get that perfect body in ten easy minutes a day. Real success is very refreshing to read about.

Today for me was a pool day. 20 laps sprinting with high knee raises and then stretching and dynamic drills in the water. I even treated myself to some nice hot tub soaking and stretching after.

Walk/run/love/rest with all your heart today.

Happy Panda:hippie:

I had an hour of PT at 7 this morning and then came into work.

Thanks Dave for posting the info for the miles, I found it.

Not sure if we'll do miles tonight. I didn't fall asleep till 1am and was up at 5, Mark rolled in around 3am from the movie so it'll be quiet in the household tonight.

Will check in later. I have about 151 miles on the sneakers and they are holding up fine.

denise

Good Morning Team!

We (the dogs and I) got out for a long walk today, we did 8.77 miles (the goal was 8 miles, the loop was a little longer than that).

Here is the Yellow Rice and Chicken recipe:

Yellow Rice and Chicken

1 fryer (we use chicken breasts)
2 tablespoons salt
4 ounces lard or ½ pint olive oil
1 pound rice
1 onion
Pinch of saffron
2 cloves garlic
1 green pepper, chopped
6 ounces tomatoes
1 ½ quarts water
1 bay leaf
1 2-ounce can petit pois (baby peas)
2 pimientos

Cut chicken in quarters and fry in oil with onion and garlic; when done, add tomatoes and water. Boil for 5 minutes. Add bay leaf, salt, rice, saffron and green pepper. Stir thoroughly and place in moderately heated oven for 20 minutes. Garnish with petit pois and pimientos.

Vicki - my standard pot luck item is brownies, but if I am trying to cut down on the sugar, I will make berries with russian creme - just cut up any kind of fruit, or just use berries, strawberries, rasberries, blueberries, sweeten fruit slightly. The Russian Creme is Sour cream, vanilla and sugar. I used to have the official recipe, but I've just done it for so long to taste, that I don't know amounts. I just use enough vanilla for the flavor, and just enough sugar to counter act the tartness of the sour cream. Wisk it together, and either layer fruit and creme, or just use creme as a topping. I have been using this alot for dessert with my diabetic friends, because I can sweeten the whole thing with Splenda instead of sugar.

Have a great day everyone!

Hello team!

I have a couple of local races coming up, a 10k tomorrow and a 5.17 mile on the 4th of July. Now both of these races are before a parade and both finish down the parade route where people will already be sitting. So of course...it was a perfect excuse to buy new running clothes!:rotfl: I bought a cute running skirt and a pretty blue tank top. I have always been a very girly-girl, and hardly ever leave the house without makeup, and am not used to that part of running in public! I'm hoping that my cute outfit will distract them from my beet red, sweaty, blotchy face. :lmao:

Oh, and the best part of the race tomorrow? Instead of getting a t-shirt for participating...we get a free beer! :drinking1

Eva- Yes there are good parts about owning your own business...and there are bad parts too! We do not have one boss to worry about, we have hundreds! We have to try to keep every one of our customers happy. And if anything goes wrong or breaks, it's our problem.

Vicki- I have never tried this, but the people on the Weight Watchers boards always swear by this recipe and that no one can tell that it is diet.

DIET SODA CAKE

1 box any flavor dry cake mix
10 ounces any flavor diet soda
2 egg whites slightly beaten, optional but cake stays together better and is fluffier

Mix the dry cake mix, the diet soda, and the egg whites until well blended. Pour into a 9 X 13 sprayed pan. Cook according to the directions on cake mix box. Points are 3 for 1/12 of cake, but depends on the nutritional value of the cake mix. 4 points each if egg white used (mix makes 24 cupcakes – without egg whites, one point each)

Banana cake w/ diet root beer
cherry chip cake / A& W diet Cream soda
Chocolate cake w/ Diet coke
chocolate cake w/ Diet cherry coke
chocolate w/ diet vanilla coke
chocolate cake w/ rootbeer
Lemon cake w/ Diet ginger ale
Lemon cake w/ Diet lemon lime
orange cake w/diet Mountain Dew
yellow cake w/ Diet orange
white cake w/ Diet Peach
spice cake w/ diet lemon-lime
White w/ diet ginger ale
marble cake w/ diet cream soda
lemon with tangerine diet rite
white cake mix w/ diet sprite
Red Velvet w/ Diet Cherry Vanilla Dr Pepper
Pineapple cake w/ diet Squirt
orange cake /diet Mountain Dew
spice cake mix w/ diet orange

Then some people use Sugar Free Cool Whip as a topping for it.

I did get in my 4 gym workouts this week. And am on target to get my 200 combined walking/biking miles in this month.

Nice interlude during mine & Hagen's walk through the cemetery...we stopped and enjoyed a personal bagpipe rehearsal!

Lynn, Thanks, I will try the yellow rice & chicken recipe...it sounds great!

Vicky, this is an EASY Low Cal favorite of mine and everyone loves it. I make it for a few and/or MANY as I made it for my DD wedding reception

Chocolate Pudding Mousse

1-½ cups cold milk – I used ½ % milk
1 package (4-serving size) Jell-O Sugar Free Instant Chocolate Pudding
1-cup (8oz) small size thawed Cool Whip Lite Whipped Topping

Pour milk into large bowl. Add pudding mix. Beat; * stir in thawed whipped topping. Top with fresh raspberries.

I chill the pudding a bit before adding the Lite Cool Whip

Chill until firmly set. Serves 5-6 people…
