New June - Team Hakuna Matata!

Good Morning Team!

Looks like a great day here - sun is out, wind is calm!!! - will get the dog walk in early as I think it might be hotter today. The humidity is unusually high today - TV said 93 percent, our weather station says 88 percent (usual is under 50 percent unless it is raining!!!).

Yesterday I used the workout room for the first time doing a Pilates tape - it is a little cramped, but worked out pretty well. We have the Bowflex and a TM in the room. The Bowflex really takes quite a bit of space! We still might re-arrange the equipment a bit for a better use of space.

We are glad you are enjoying the Babotie recipe - we always used ground beef in the recipe - that may not be as authentic, but it is sure easier to get, and Scott does not like lamb.

I may dig out the yellow rice and chicken recipe and get it typed in - we make the yellow rice from scratch - lots of saffron!

Time to get out with the dogs - have a great day!

Hi everyone! Just taking a quick lunch break so I thought I'd drop by and see how everyone's doing. I had an unexpected mini-workout this morning after I had a craving for peanut butter. I pulled my (natural) peanut butter jar but since I hadn't used it in a while, the oil had completely separated. It was tough work mashing in the peanut mixture with the oil. It had the consistency of fudge but a lot harder. Pretty tasty in the end though :)

My left knee is feeling a little crampy today and my leg a little weak. Maybe because of the chilly weather... Regardless, I'm not really feeling like my PT session tonight but it's too late to cancel. I'm going for a quick walk after lunch and hopefully things will feel better.

Dave - No plans for the ToT here :( I really want to go but we just went to the Minnie and are booked for the 1/2 in January. I guess that's what an AP is for but the airfare is a real killer!

Sue - Are you going to join us for the Scotiabank 1/2 in September?

Denise - What kind of movie is your DS working on? It sounds interesting!

Scott/Lynn - Keep those recipes coming! :cutie: Speaking of recipes, here's one that DF and I made over the weekend. It's quite filling and very tasty (or so we thought). We borrowed it from this site:

Ingredients:
1 Tbsp Extra Virgin Olive Oil
4 Chicken Breasts
1 Small Onion, diced
3 Cloves Garlic, minced or pressed
1 tsp Cumin, ground
1 tsp Coriander, ground
3 cups Chicken Stock (unsalted)
1 cup cooked Garbanzo Beans
1 cup Tomatoes, peeled and diced
1/2 cup Red Wine
6 to 8 Mushrooms, quartered
1/ 2 tsp Salt
3/4 cup Teff (Tef, T'ef) Whole Grain
1 cup Green Peas
1/2 cup Almonds (Sliced)

Stir for 1 minute, add chicken stock, garbanzos, tomatoes, red wine, mushrooms, and salt. Bring to boil and, using wire whisk, stir in teff. Reduce heat to low, add chicken, cover and simmer for 30 minutes.

2. Add green peas and continue cooking until tender (about 3 minutes). Divide into individual serving dishes and garnish each with almonds.

Makes 8 Servings.

Hey guys...on a short break at work myself and thought I'd stop in. Forgot to tell you guys earlier, but I saw The Happening too and DBF and I agreed that it wasn't as good as his last few films. Don't want to spoil it for anyone...but I just didn't get it! Dave...did you?? I normally love the twists and turns in his plot and kept waiting for the big "lightbulb moment" that never came. I just feel like I missed it...anyhow, Dave if you got it..PM me....

Not too sure if I can run tonight. I've been getting dizzy spells all day today. Not sure why...but I feel very strange. DBF said he would leave work to pick me up and take me to the hospital, but I hate doctors. I promised I'd tell him if it got worse and it hasn't. I'm hoping after I take a nap or something it'll go away. :confused3

I was looking for warn to running 3 today...hope I can. :worried:

Hey, not sure about your condition but last week I was really dizzy and almost went home from work but turns out I didn’t have enough water in my system. So I had some crackers and a lot of water and felt much better. Give it a try.

Hello Team!

I have not been a very good team member here on the boards, but I am still getting in my miles and hours AND finally sent the last few weeks into Connie this morning. I do peek in and catch up on reading, but never seem to have time to post.

Things are just so busy for us this time of year. Like I had mentioned before, we own a bait business so this is prime time for us! Also we are trying really hard to pay off some credit card debt (LOTS!), so we are doing most of the work ourselves to save money. My husband and I get up early, spend the morning counting and packaging the bait and then we take off in opposite directions to deliver it to the stores. It is very common for us to not get back home until 8-9 at night. :faint:

Then we also have to squeeze in all the other things going on in the summertime! On top of the regular picnics and family get togethers (we will use any excuse to have a party!), our youngest son graduated from high school last week. :cool1:

Anyway, I am really going to try to participate more here, even if it is only a quick "hi" every few days.

Dave, I would love to do the ToT, but doing Disney next January is going to be our only trip for a while (because of the mentioned credit card debt!)

Erica, I have not posted since you have returned to walking, so a belated "Way to Go!!".

Scott/Lynn, Your room looks great! It will be so nice when you get it all done and get to enjoy all your hard work. We tend to put off those type of improvements until we are planning on selling, and then someone else gets to enjoy them!

The recipes all sound wonderful, but way to much work when you are making dinner at 9:00 at night! I will have to save them to try in the fall.

Well, I have been on this computer way too long, so I'd better get my butt out to the shop and start counting again!

Vicky, ran Scotia last year. I can't decide. Was leaning more towards Port Perry because it's close to home but the race is still unconfirmed.
Also undecided on flights (Oct & Jan). Great prices out of Buffalo or convenience of Pearson.

Still haven't found any motivation for work. Working on a very boring project.

Nice break in the humidity. Should be a good night for a run as long as the rain holds off.....Sue

Eva, I agree with Denise, could be a hydration issue.

I want to run tonight so will head home soon.

Lynn says we have lots o cherries on our trees, so I got some bird netting to save them from the feathered friends.

Hi All!!

Did a nice slow 2 miles at the mall with Dave. Found a really kewl backpack at Steve and Barry's. Can't beat the $8.98 price tag.

Went to grocers and got more supplies to make babotie. I tweak it by adding more veggies and non meat ground meat. DD21 ate a big bowl and didn't even know there was not a stitch of real meat in it!!

Just got finished ordering the new Nike+ bracelet system!

Talk at you later Kiddos!!

Erica:)

Being married to a princess 101:

We went to the mall to look at the Nike+ wristband, since I got a 20% coupon in the mail. They were out of them at the mall Finish Line Store. So Erica says, "Well I'll just make out with what I have". Now does that mean that she will manage with one of her 2 Garmins or her Nike+ iPod system? Of course not it means she will go home and order it on line. Isn't she just the most resoursefull princess? I love her.

Eva, I didn't get it either. Erica enjoyed it and thought it was very good. I just figured it was over my head. Hummm, Eva did the wind blow just before you got dissy? Just to be safe, toss the scissors.:scared1:

I understand about the credit card debt, my Disney card is a living screaming beast.

Bunny, no you don't have to be a walker to visit over on the DisneyRunning.com walking site. There are a few other runners there.

Everyone have an awesome evening.

:rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: Lynn has two Garmins and the Nike + Ipod. Gotta Love Um

Just got the Amex Bill, worry not about the economy, I have shored it up once again. ::yes:: :)

I shoudln't say anything about the Garmin, I just ordered the 405. I got an email alert that they were in stock at Gpsnow.com. Pretty good price and I have done a bunch of business with them both personal and for work. So will give you my thoughts. Lynn will have to live with her 205.

Got home and placed the aforementioned order, then went for a really strong three miler, felt strong and good. Drinking a G2 and am leaking, (sweating, thought I better let ya know what I was talking about)

Have a good night all we need to bird proof our Cherry Trees as the fruit is just starting to come on, and want to beat the birds to it.

OK...can't stay long since I need to get to bed. But I just wanted to let you guys know that I'm feeling alot better. Jordan would not let me run tonight, so I did a Tae Bo tape here at home. My mom said she thought it could be low blood pressure. Which is possible because I have hypothyroidism and the last time I did the arm machine at the grocery store I was under the charts. Not quite sure...but I feel better.

Oh and I drink 8-10 glasses of water a day...never had problems getting hydrated. I could see how that would have sounded likely though.

I'll read the posts and respond more in the morning. Good Night All!

No way I can keep up with all the post :confused3

Hope you feel better, Eva and find out what the problem is.

Recipes, new toys, and adventures ... Impressive! :goodvibes

Well, maybe not the washer incident - Sorry Denise. :(

Went to the gym this morning when they opened, did my upper body program, 60 ball crunches, biked 15-miles, stretched - ran home to be here for little Hagen, put on my walking shoes and took him for a slow 3.3 mile walk.

Tomorrow morning is the day this week that I go to DD office to refresh on her daily schedule & office software for a couple of hours before kids arrive.
And I do hope to get in at least a short walk.

Hi all!

I'm going to post real quick, the I have to get some sleep. I finished dinner and sat down at the computer at 10:30. By the time I google earthed my run (4.44 miles today) sent the weeks miles and time to Connie and caught up on reading through only page 8! I gotta go!

Anyway,

Eva, I'm new too. where are you from in Cleveland? My father grew up and Aunt still lives on the west side (about 157th street). My sister and family live in Mentor.

Thanks all the for great recipes!

Denise, I wish I could get myself up for a 5:35 run. I think about, I set the alarm, Alarm goes off, I snooze, again and again. Finally at 6:15 it's too late to go out.

I'd love to do ToT, but I have to wait and see if there's a cheap airfare. We're schedule to go down 10/30, not sure how DH would feel about me bopping down for an extra weekend.

Looking forward to hanging out with any and all at BWV. I was thinking about not using those coveted weekend points for the Marathon, but might have to change my mind if it make it more condusive to hanging with the gang.

Celtics are gonna win!
Gotta go!

Have a great day tomorrow!

Anne

Vicky - That Moroccan Stew sounds yummy!! Sorry to hear about the knee pain! Most of my running pain gathers in my ankles, but I've had knee issues in the past. No good! :(

Dawn - Wow...I'm impressed that you own bait business. That's my dream...to be my own boss and own my own business (dog boarding / breeding). I'm not much of a corporate girl..I'd rather leave the ladder climbing to somebody else.

Scott/Lynn - Yay for cherries in the trees! The net is a must!!

Erica - Let us know how the new running gadget is!!

Margie - :thanks: for the well wishes!

Anne - I was in Lakewood (right near your aunt)...now back on the SW suburbs in Medina. I love it here! I've lived all over the midwest but haven't fallen into a home like in Medina. Could just be that it's the first time I've found true love :cloud9: ...it makes life better all around doesn't it?

Well..I'm feeling myself today. Prob going to shift my days up and do my 3 miles today. It actually works out since I was moving my LR day to Monday anyways.

OH...and less than 2 1/2 months till I go to the world!!! We are just waiting on a paypal check and then we are paying off our balance!! Mickey Mail is coming!!! :woohoo:

Good morning team! Thought I'd sneak in a quick message before more people start showing up. I had a great workout with my PT yesterday. I was going to mention my knee to him but it's funny because everytime I go and see him or my chiro - I never seem to have that specific pain while I'm there with them. Go figure! The pain never came back afterwards either although my wrists and shoulders are a little sore - we were doing planks and burpies a lot ... did I mention I hate burpies?

All this talk about credit cards… Yeah, I can relate. I was talking to my TA the other day about making reservations for January and since the 2009 rates aren't out yet, she said that I'd have to put down 1 night at peak season rate! Ouch! I know it gets adjusted once the rates come out but peak rates seem so high :(

Erica - Great price on the backpack! I bought one for myself to take to work at the Children's Place last fall. Kind of a funny place to buy one but I happened to be there with a friend who was buying clothes for their kids.

Dave - I'll head over to the other site a little bit later today. I've posted there a couple of times but it was mostly questions related to the Minnie.

Eva - Hope you're feeling better today. I feel the same way - I realized that I'm not much of a corporate girl or ladder climber. I suspect that has to do with the people here - everyone seems to have an agenda or think that someone is out to steal their job. I've been thinking about moving into films but I think it's hard (for me anyway) to make the change. I'm pretty sure I'd be a lot happier but I worry about not having a steady pay check.

Sue - DF and I are like that too. Buffalo has some really great rates but Pearson is easier to get too. Also since it's just the two of us, the savings aren't as great after adding in an overnight hotel.

Anne, Margie, Dawn, Scott, Lynn - :wave2:

I'd better get going ... Have a great day everyone!

Good Morning All

I will try that recipe some time soon, will print off. One of my co-workers daughter is a vegetarian and made dinner one day. She’s a college student so it’s pretty basic. Mark and I tried it last night and LOVED it.

Pick up some Artisan Bread at the bakery in the grocery store.
Buffalo Mozzarella
Ugly Tomatoes – yes they are expensive but worth it – your not buying meat so go for it.
FRESH Basil

I had on hand some Good Seasons Italian Dressing – made
bottle of hot peppers – like those you put on a grinder.

Slice bread – grill or toast if you want
Spread with the dressing
Add sliced tomatoes, sliced cheese, top with peppers add the basil and top of bread
Enjoy!!

So yummy, quick and easy.

Ok, on to this morning. Miranda is still feeling the pain of doing a Cindy Crawford tape and walking 3 miles after -- I knew she would not be up to walking tonight so I went out at 5:45 this morning. Did my 4 miles and feel GREAT. I am so not a hot temp person so having it in the 50’s first thing is way better for me. Mark has decided that tomorrow he’ll come with me, it’s much cooler and he doesn’t like me out in the am alone. With the Celtics winning last night all the “bad” people were still hung over this morning so no one was out!

Time to fire up the desk here at work.

It's a beautiful day here in NH enjoy whatever you do!

On the road today just a short 700 mile round trip, two of us to share the driving, did get the morning run in and will be busy for a little when we get back to the office.

Enjoy the day be good and have fun.

Morning guys.

I did my regular treadmill workout this morning then cals and stretching.

Erica made a veggie version of sloppy joes. She took a can of Manwich, a can of medium hot rotelle and two packs of Boca soy ground meat. The result over dark German Pumpernicel bread was very good. We had a couple of veggies with it.

She is doing great on the veggie diet. We are both on it except I have lots of fish as well.

Well it will be interesting which candidate becomes president, I still plan to persue convincing the new first lady that she should be a driving force in making the country more physiclly fit.

Have a super day y'all.

Just thought of another question since there was so much talk about Garmins and running gadgets. I'm thinking of picking up the Forerunner 405 in a couple of weeks - should I get it with or without a heart rate monitor? I'm not exactly sure how to use the HRM to train. I know it's going to sound dumb but how do I use those numbers to improve my running or walking?

Right now, I'm using my Timex watch and MapMyRun.com but was thinking it would be nice to know my pace in real time.

Dave - DF and I are trying to get more veggies into our diets as well. I heard an interview with Oprah's personal trainer recently and he said he usually tried to eat fruits/veggies of at least 7 different colours a day. I made it up to 5 - orange carrots, green salad, yellow pineapple, brown/white sprouts and chick peas and red tomatoes. I couldn't think of many other colors.

Denise - What are ugly tomatoes?

Good Morning Team! (Yes, it is still morning here, at least for a few more minutes!)

Got in a 6 mile walk with the dogs this morning, I went early (7:30), but not early enough, it was still hot for me (wasn't it just last week that we were complaining that it was too cold:rotfl2: ) Actually, I could have waited, it has now clouded up and dropped about 10 degrees! But the wind has also picked up a bit. For some reason, my 6 mile walks are not as easy as they were. Maybe because I have not been doing them as regularly as previously because the weather was so bad there for a while. I used to do a 6 mile walk 3 to 5 times a week, lately, I have only managed one or two a week. Now that it is not raining constantly, maybe I can get back into more regular longer walks, and they will not seem so hard. Right now, 6 miles seems like a long walk - not just an every day walk. My long term goal is to have a 13 mile walk seem like just my weekly long walk, so that I will not get stressed over a half marathon.

I distinctly remember telling Scott that I would be happy to live with my Garmin 205 (for now anyway). I'm not totally sold on the 405, but I'm glad Scott is getting one, because now I can try it and see if I like the bezzle thing, and see if it picks up satellites better than the 205 (of course here is not a good place to test the satellite link - there are no trees or tall buildings to interfer with reception:lmao: ) I did pick up a nike + to go with my IPOD, mainly to have something that would count my milage when I am inside, or running/walking on the cruise ship, but, so far, I have not been successful in calibrating it so that it is even close to the Garmin! I may just have to take the garmin on the cruise, and set it to laps, and just count laps - like I have done in the past. Then I have to calculate my own distance and pace!

The laundry is calling me, I'd better get going. Have a great day everyone!
