I have always done the NJ pike, however, AAA seems to be pushing the Garden State.

It just seems kind of silly to follow the Garden State, then have to cut all the way over to 95.

Am I missing something?

Thank you!!!

I would say it depends on where in NJ you would be starting from or how far east or west of the Parkway you are. If you live in North Jersey I would say turnpike all the way. If you live in central jersey you could take the parkway to exit 98 and get on 195 there and take that to the turnpike. We've done both I seem to prefer the 2nd idea more. It may seem longer but you are constantly moving, no traffic and no lights and such.

I believe they are talking about north of I-287.
South of that GSP goes to Atlantic City and Cape May and is of no help.

Where are driving from?

UPDATE- I did a TripTik from Union NJ to Orlando Fl and got this (figured because Union is on the GSP it might route me that way) but AAA did not put me on GSP.

Driving Directions Map: Overview
Segment: Union(Hudson), New Jersey to Orlando, Florida
Distance: 1085.9 miles (1747.5km)
1. Start out heading SOUTHWEST on PALISADE AVENUE towards 37TH STREET. Drive for a short distance.
2. Turn LEFT onto 36TH STREET. Drive for 0.2 miles.
3. Turn RIGHT onto PARK AVENUE. Drive for 0.1 miles.
4. Go STRAIGHT on PLEASANT AVENUE. Drive for a short distance.
5. Turn SLIGHT RIGHT to get on RT-495 W towards RT-495 W / NJ-495 W / NJ TURNPIKE. Drive for 1.5 miles.
6. Take I-95 S towards NEW JERSEY TURNPIKE SOUTH / I-95 S / NEWARK / I-280 / I-78. Drive for 43.7 miles.
7. I-95 S becomes NEW JERSEY TURNPIKE S. Drive for 68 miles.
8. Go STRAIGHT on I-295 S. Drive for 5.5 miles.
9. Take I-95 S towards I-95. Drive for 125.8 miles.
10. Stay SLIGHT LEFT on I-95 S heading towards I-95 / I-95 S / RICHMOND. Drive for 85.6 miles.

Do the GSP ... Its the Belmar exit....

We take it all the time...

Its easier than the turnpike...

We also take some of the back roads...

We take also rt 9 to 33 to 95...

FYI:

You'll be better of taking 295 south instead of the turnpike. No Toll and three lanes instead of two. Take 195 to 295 south instead of the turnpike.

You'll be way better off I promise. I'm a South Jersian (Glassboro).

I agree with both suzy and jobie. I would avoid the turnpike, espeically where the car and truck lanes merge around exit 8. I would either do the parkway to exit 98 (the exit for 195..it might be exit 100..i forget) and take 195 west to I-95.

Or take 195 west to 295 south and take it over the delaware memorial bridge.

I agree 295 makes the most sense, but whether it's 295 or the turnpike make sure you're not planning to do this weekdays in late-afternoon/early evening, or on a Sunday evening. They both are famous for absolutely hellish delays. In the summer, and others will back me up on this, it's not unusual to hear traffic reports of 10 mile backups going south from NJ towards Delaware at those times.

If you take the GSP please tell me you have Easy Pass. Cause being stuck at the toll booths stink??
