I'm wondering the same thing. Do they post the % as it's filling up, like the marathon weekend events? I'd just as soon wait to shell out $195, but I also don't want to miss out.

Here is a Disney Press Release I received yesterday:

Disney’s Expedition Everest Challenge presented by Champion
To Provide Unique Test of Skills and Thrills

LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. (Feb. 25, 2008) – Runners looking to test themselves beyond just physical endurance will find a unique test of skills – and thrills – in the inaugural Disney’s Expedition Everest Challenge presented by Champion in September.

Disney’s Expedition Everest Challenge presented by Champion is the first urban adventure race among Disney’s Endurance Series, offering a rare combination of physical and mental challenges that will require competitors to be quick on their feet – literally and figuratively. The nighttime event, which debuts Sept. 27 at Disney’s Animal Kingdom, will begin with a 5K run through the theme park, then transition to a fun obstacle course and finish with a scavenger hunt that will require a “passport,” creating the ultimate test of physical stamina as well as intellectual endurance along with a traditional dose of Disney magic.

“Disney’s Expedition Everest Challenge presented by Champion was created to offer runners a new experience, combining the best elements of some of our other endurance series races – running through a theme park and maneuvering through obstacles with a partner – and adding a scavenger hunt as an exciting new element at the end of the event,” said Kathleen Duran, Area Sports manager for Disney’s Wide World of Sports. “Creating the Expedition Everest Challenge presented by Champion adds another dimension to our Endurance Series, which continues to offer competitors of all ages and skill levels unforgettable endurance experiences.”

Participants can compete in various divisions – men’s individual, women’s individual, men’s team, women’s team and co-ed team – and can register now for the event online at www.disneyeverestchallenge.com. The registration fee is $195 for team entry and $100 for individuals. Each participant receives a one-day ticket to Disney’s Animal Kingdom or Epcot, a Champion performance apparel shirt, a finisher medal, as well as admission to the exclusive Expedition Everest Challenge post-event party hosted by Champion.
Disney’s Expedition Everest Challenge presented by Champion is part of Champion’s new “How To Play Weekend” at Disney, which includes Disney’s Mixed/Co-Ed Fall Festival adult slowpitch softball tournament Sept. 28-30.

Disney’s Endurance Series gives recreational athletes of all ages and abilities the chance to walk, jog, run and swim their way “around the world.” From running marathons to road races and triathlons, participating athletes from across the country and around the world compete to stay in shape, achieve personal-best times and often to raise charitable donations.

Popular Endurance Series events include the Walt Disney World Marathon and Half Marathon (January), Disney’s Race for the Taste 10K (October) and The Twilight Zone™ Tower of Terror 13K (October). For more information, please visit www.disneyenduranceseries.com.

About Disney’s Wide World of Sports Complex

Opened in 1997 at Walt Disney World, Disney’s Wide World of Sports Complex is the premier sports venue for amateur and professional sports in the United States. The sprawling 220-acre state-of-the-art complex is home to more than 180 amateur and professional sports events each year, including the NFL Tampa Bay Buccaneers training camp, the Major League Baseball Atlanta Braves spring training and a Tampa Bay Rays regular-season series, the Pop Warner Super Bowl and the AAU National Championship events. The complex features The Milk House, a 165,000-square-foot field house which seats 5,000 for basketball; the 9,500-seat Champion Stadium ballpark; and the Hess Sports Fields, which include multiple baseball, softball and soccer fields. In addition, the complex has 10 tennis courts, including a stadium court and a track& field complex.
To meet the growing demand for elite events at the complex, Disney’s Wide World of Sports is expanding the facility in summer 2008 with the construction of the Jostens Center, a multi-sport field house that will double the complex’s ability to stage indoor events.

Thanks for the update. This does sound like a fun event. We're just holdiing out due to the $100 fee and the unneeded day ticket.

I sent a letter to the race coordinators last night inquiring as to why they "included" a park ticket vs. "offering" one. I am awaiting a reply. We have held off signing up for this due to the very steep price.

We so enjoyed the TOT last year and were able to get our feet wet by doing the 6.5K instead of the 13K. :goodvibes Just participating with baby steps has opened our eyes to other events.

To have the price increase to $100 for this one, which includes the $35 ticket, just makes little sense except for Disney's bottom line. Should I hear a response I will post it.

I received a repsonse about the forced day ticket... it was standard and did not answer my question. I was hoping for a bit of honesty :goodvibes

Georgie -

Thank you for taking the time to send your feedback to us. Due to the
limited capacity of this Inaugural event, discounts and special pricing
will not be available. We will, however, take your feedback into
consideration for next year's event.

Thank you,
Disney Sports

Hi!

I'm sure you've gotten tons of e-mails on this already.

We are interested in this event, but as AP holders do not need/want to
purchase a separate park ticket for the event. Is there a reason you
decided not to have 2 different ticket prices, one for AP holders and
one for those who need a ticket? This decision by WDW has left many with a
disappointed opinion on the future path of Disney events, and your creative
increases in prices.

One would assume this is a way to for Disney "make extra $" on the
event. I don't want to fall into that category of naysayers, and wanted to ask as to why this was done. I can understand if you are selling this as a hard coded ticketed event i.e. MNSSHP or MVMCP, etc, but in past races, the event price included the party afterwards, so I am left feeling puzzled at this new approach.

Thanks for sharing your insight.

Georgie

Is it me or did they take away the free 3 months subscription to fitness or whatever the magazine was?

I followed up on the ticket inclusion and finally did get a "un-canned" response. They know full well they could have offered an option, and chose not to. It would have taken very little effort. ;)

The ticket was included in with the registration package because of
guest feedback.

A lot of our Endurance race participants wanted to see a theme park ticket included with registration to make it easier on them. Basically, this saves them another step of having to search out a ticket to purchase during registration or waiting to purchase when they arrive here at Walt Disney World.

We decided to try the registration with the included ticket for the
Everest event because it is a new event and one of our smaller Endurance
events to gauge the success rate.

Thanks.

Disney Sports,

Thanks for taking time to reply. I am following up as my original question wasn't answered. Why was the decision made to include a ticket into a park? I wasn't looking for a discount, just an answer as to why Disney decided to tack on an unnecessary ticket into the registration fee. The ticket adds an additional expense for those of us who already have an AP.

I'm glad you will take this into consideration for next year.

"Sure AP holders, you still have to pay for a ticket. Unfortunately, despite operating hte world's most sophisticated ticketing system, we can't for the life of us figure out how to let people register for this race without including this very limited ticket that you don't need and can't sell or even give to anyone else and may eventually be turned into a ticket that is only valid at Blizzard Beach December 20-22, 2014. But isn't it great that a ticket is included in this race package????"

What we are really doing is paying for the party on top of the race. Why bother calling it anything other than an "After race celebration ticket".

I'm annoyed. If DH wasn't so jazzed about this & they weren't offering $155 for AKL, I wouldn't be doing this.

Oh well. Suckered again.

I asked this question in an email and they said you can give them (which of course to me meant to sell them to someone else)

I asked this question in an email and they said you can give them (which of course to me meant to sell them to someone else)

I'm glad if that is the answer. I was going by the race FAQs that says non-transferrable.

How long is the theme park ticket valid for? The theme park tickets are valid from September 26, 2008 through October 10, 2008. Theme park ticket entitles you to one day of admission to Disney's Animal Kingdom® Theme Park or Epcot®. Some activities/events may be separately priced. Ticket types and entitlements are subject to change without notice. Tickets are non-transferrable, non-refundable, must be picked up at Packet Pick-Up and will not be mailed. Parking is not-included.

I questioned them again yesterday and they said:

Stacey-
The race registration fee in nontransferable.
Thanks.
the race

But I cut and pasted what was off the website and am asking them to clarify or change the website. I will keep you posted.

Hi All!

I also asked about the included ticket being transferable. Good News! It is! :woohoo: Their only stipulation is that it must be picked up by the registrant. At least they've relaxed their original stance on the tickets. :thumbsup2

Here is their reply to my request:

Georgie,

Thank you for your feedback and we are looking into offering the ticket as an option next year.

Yes, you will be able to pass the tickets onto someone else. They will just need to be picked up by you.
Disney Sports

My note:
Dear Disney Endurance Team,

A question about the registration for this inagural event.

We just registered for the Minnie 5 K and noticed the purchasing of a park ticket is optional... NOT required.

We are Annual Pass Holders and do NOT need the extra tickets. It looks like there was an oversite in requiring everyone to purchase the ticket, especially when other Disney races makes this optional. The convenience is there for those who would like to purchase the ticket.

I've read elsewhere you are making no exceptions and are forcing everyone to purchase the package as presented regardless of ticket need. The event sounds very exciting, but is steep if you don't need the ticket. As a consolation, may we pass the tickets along to others? There is a possibility we may be celebrating my mother's 80th birthday with our family, here at WDW. I would like to let my Mom + Dad use these tickets, since they will already be paid for.

Thank you for your understanding. Please offer the tickets as a OPTION next year.

Sincerely,
Georgie

FYI, I just got the same answer today!! So you can give/or whatever to someone else!:cool1:

Well, that's a little better than I thought it would be, but still annoying.

If any of the APs out there would like to sell their park tickets, I could use three. I signed up for the EEC with two friends, and we were going to fly in on Friday, go to EPCOT with our tix on Friday, then hit AK or EPCOT on Saturday.

Thanks
