First off, I see that the original thread is locked and I apologize to the moderators but feel there was an important fact left out of all this that people should know.
My daughter is currently doing the Walt Disney World College Program and her roommate works on Splash Mountain and was involved with this whole incident. The important fact left out is THE GIRL ADMITTED TO STANDING UP DURING THE RIDE JUST BEFORE ONE OF THE DROPS!
Enough said.

Im not suprised. I found it hard to believe a ride operates fine for that long and all of a sudden a teenage girl gets her foot stuck up somewhere. Just didnt make sence.

Thank you for the update!

:thumbsup2

Now, do I win a free trip to Disney since I said all along that the girl must have done something in order for this to happen?

Let me call my lawyer and find out.

JUUUUUUUST KIDDING!!!!!!!!

:yay:

I Read Through That Entire Thread Last Night And Dh And I Could Not For The Life Of Us Think Of Anyway That Could Happen...except For A Freak Accident!! We Had Just Rode On It Friday And Couldn't Remember This "bar"!
Now It All Makes Sense. Thank You For Updating Us.

I Do Hope That Op Daughter Is Doing Well And That They Could Salvage Their Magical Vacation!

Well that makes more sense.

I thought it sounded odd that Disney was not doing much. I once was a CM too, and if a guest was injured because of Disney's fault, they would go above and beyond to resolve the problem.

just as I thought. I found the whole thread somewhat annoying. Sorry the girl was hurt but as I posted elsewhere I felt all along the kids must have been horsing around - but what bothered me the most is that her parents
attitude and the fact that they did not like that Disney said they would get back to them after they complete their investigation. Seems like they just wanted all the medical bills, transportation expenses, paid as well as being compensated for their entire hotel stay, dinners and tickets. Just totally seemed unfair and unusual to me. Also what struck me is that they had to receive (I believe) two phone calls to come back to the ride and were concerned it would take them an hour. Believe me if I got a call that a family member was hurt I would not worry about Disney providing me with transporation I would get a cab and be there in a heart beat. Just my opinion.

thanks for the update.

I too read that entire thread and for teh life of me could not figure out how this happened. I even asked my DS who always rides SM in the front if he could remember anything like this in the ride..a bar or something. He said to me - "no but how much you wanna bet she stood up in the log during the ride?" Guess he wins the bet...

Small world.
A DIS reader's daughter's roommate knows about something that happened to another DIS reader's daughter.
Hope her foot is healing OK.

Not really. The DIS is the most active message board on the entire web. Not just most active Disney message board. Most active board, PERIOD.

Just like another poster said, there is always a second side to every story and this side of the story sure sheds some light on the situation. After reading the whole thread before it was closed, I've been hoping there would be someone else to post that had first hand experience during the incident.

It will be interesting to see if the OP replies to this post. If she did stand-up, I'm sure Disney will have it on video. So far we have heard from two people who heard the story from someone else. The OP heard it from DD, this post heard it from DD's roomate.

What next? :confused3

Thank you for the update. Too many have experienced this ride and questioned the OP's facts. Kids will be kids and hopefully an important lesson was learned. The DSD is lucky that something much worse did not occur! :teacher:

Thanks for the update but we still don't have any pictures of this now infamous "bar" that the foot got stuck under. Anyone there???????

Wasn't the DD's roomate. It was someone who works at Splash Mountain's rommate.

But it makes me wonder - Did the OP KNOW that DD stood on the ride and decide not to mention it? And if he didn't, does he still hold Disney responsible for what happened?

I'll be curious to find that out.

But how does that explain how her foot got stuck?

Thanks for the update. I think the majority of the posters realized that there was more to the story.

You know what the funny thing is...the guy was complaining about nobody helping him or giving him free stuff, in the end I would not be surprised if Disney wound up taking care of the family anyway, at least in some small way, when in reality they deserve nothing.

I sort of thought that something seemed off. Teenagers tend to do things that they would not ordinarily do if they thought first! We've ridden many times with unsupervised teenagers that do really stupid things. Not all teenagers are bad, and these kids more than likely are not bad--just a poor decision.

In any even it clears up what I was wondering about.

We appreciate the clarification, but this is a closed topic. I am moving it to the C-Board if you would like to discuss it further.

I'm guessing, of course, but if there is some sort of bar in the general area of the front row passengers feet, but that 99.9% of folks don't even realize it is there, then it would require someone slipping and coming forward with above normal force to get their foot stuck. If she was standing then slipped down and forward on a small drop that would explain it.
