Because calling it a sweepstakes makes paying taxes (not hotel taxes) more likely as opposed to paying an advertised amount of $1 (and now they are stating the bookers won't be charged anything).

I would rather pay the $7.

I am sure you would, as would I, but it makes no economical sense for them to eat all this expenses. You dont pay anything because in the legal sense of a sweeps purchase cannot be required.

I am still hung up on the 11:52 and 6:02 in the last video with the dog making the booking. Could it be 6:02pm PST so 9:02pm EST? Those numbers must mean something. Well I guess they don't have to but it seems logical.

If they make you fill out a 1099 more than likely you are going to have to pay income tax on the full going rate of the room. Not just the $1.00 they are advertising. Therefore if you book a room that would normally cost 10,000 for a week you will have to pay tax on 10,000 next year.

Hi y'all. I left to feed my family. Doggone them, I just fed them this morning, and packed them a lunch. What did they do with all that food?

Nothing yet at all. It might get to be a long nite. Oh well, my family had a great dinner. Pork chops, stuffing, apple sauce. Dinner served, dishes done and now back to checking here and finishing a Big Give outfit. Hang in there. BTW, all the food just goes away.

So that's why they have been letting people book for $1, but then they send an email saying it's free. Tricky, very tricky.

I had to take DS15 to baseball tryouts.. I told him Im in a time crunch and he needed to be out of the car as soon as I stopped.. I told him he was lucky I was even stopping, because I had half a mind to just slow down and push him out so I could keep going and hurry up and get back home..

But it wasn't originally *advertised* as a sweepstakes/contest/lottery/prize. It was advertised as hotel for a $1 per night.

Ambiguity seems to be at the root of all the issues/questions/concerns/confusion relating to this *promotion*...including them calling it a campaign.

The tax on $1 is what? 5 cents?

It is explained well somewhere waaaay back there. It would be the value of the stay at the regular rate and that would have to be claimed on your taxes as income. So say it was really a $200 a night hotel and you had 7 nights, you would get a 1099 with $1400 in income on it. You would then have to add this in to your income when filing your taxes.

We won a TV this year and got a 1099 from the appliance store for $1100. We have to include this when doing our taxes as income. It is a similar thing I believe with this hotel thing.
