but yeah. I'm not listening to it because it's 'hot or new'
I listen to it because I like it.
Who cares how popular it is?
With that post you're assuming that we can call Justin Timberlake an artist. I refuse to. I don't consider all bands or all singers artists. Simply because they're not. An artist doesn't care for teh final product. An artist doesn't care if you like it or not. An artist doesn't care if they're in the top fourty or whatever. An artist is an artist because they make new, original things that fufill them to make. Singing a song written by someone else doesn't make you an artist. Playing someone else's music doesn't make you an artist. Thats like me paiting a replica of the mona lisa and calling myself an artist. I'm not.Babyjustrun said:[lecturing voice]
if indeed, JT is a real artist, he makes the album to please himself, and about his own style and how he feels. if he were to change his songs to suit the public, he would be lying to himself. it's just wrong. music is a form of art, the art of the ears, mind and soul. artists are the core of the album, they decide what they want out of it.

Needless to say, real artists are few and far between now-a-days.
Mainstream rap doesn't mean anything very often anymore, but there are a lot of rappers who will never get famous simply because they don't really go into the "grills" "bling" and "women" areas.Babyjustrun said:I don't care whether or not he's a real artist. I don't value his music, I just listen to his older music for fun, not because I believe anything that he's saying.
However to each their own.
The entire 'grills', 'bling' and 'women' thing is getting old. I'd like to hear some hiphop and rap that actually meant something.
