I've been lurking the past few days and have gotten a lot of great tips!

We're going December 12th thru 15th (2002) and staying at the Contemporary. This is a surprise for our soon to be 5 year old for his birthday. We're in the Tower Club, hopefully with a view of MK (it was requested, almost begged). I got PS's for California Grille on the 13th at 6 p.m. (can we see the fireworks from here?) and Chef Mickey on the 14th.

I am so excited, and ds doesn't know yet. hee hee.

Off to gather more info, I just wanted to introduce myself.

1st I'd like to welcome you to the disboards! You can see the fireworks from the CG. You could show up a little early and request a window seat or just get up and walk over to the window when the fireworks begin. (Don't be surprised if your post is moved over to the Restaurant board, they have lots of information over there about restartarants.)

Have a great trip!

Hi Tara, welcome to the DIS

Glad you're finding some useful information here already! :) If you have any specific questions about the Contemporary (or any of the other resorts), do just jump straight in and ask away - don't be shy :)

As for the CG, I believe you can see the fireworks from there (assuming they're on at that time, LOL), and I believe they also dim the lights and pipe in the music but I've never been there myself to tell you what it's like.

Do feel free to ask the same question over on our Restaurant forum where I know they'll be plenty of folks ready to share their experiences :)

Welcome!
I am also planning a surprise trip for my DD 5th B-day, but we'll be there in Jan. I would love to here how you plan on telling him. We will be driving down and I don't know when I should tell her?
You will love Chef Mickey's. It is so much fun for the kids(and us big kids too:p ) The characters really take their time with the kids. Have a great trip and don't forget to come back and tell us all about it!

Welcome, Tara!

It's been too long since I stayed at the Contemporary but I love the tower rooms.

You are sure to have a fantastic Disney vacation!

Hi Tara - I've stayed in the Tower 3x and it is wonderful. I've had a MK view each time. Such magic -to step out on the balcony and see the monorail, SM, Space Mountain and see the ferry. Truly a Disney original!!! You can hear the sounds of Mk, too - train whistle and at times the sounds of Splash Mtn. At night, you can see the fireworks. Enjoy a truly magical resort.

Hi Tara....

Welcome to the Boards!!! You will love all the help and info you get here......nothing compares to it!

I am also planning to surprise my 2 DS (ages 8 & 3). We are leaving the day after Thanksgiving and driving down from NJ. We'll be in the world from Nov. 30-Dec. 7th!! The suspense of the surprise is KILLING me!!!!!

I can't wait to wake them up that morning and say...."Get Up!!! We're going to Disney World!!!!" Of course I will video tape their reactions so we will always have it to treasure!!!

Enjoy your planning and enjoy your surprise!!:bounce: :Pinkbounc :bounce: :Pinkbounc :bounce: :Pinkbounc :bounce: :Pinkbounc :bounce: :Pinkbounc :bounce: :Pinkbounc :bounce: :Pinkbounc :bounce: :Pinkbounc :bounce: :Pinkbounc

Welcome aboard!

I too lurked here on & off for a year, now I come here daily!

A wealth of info here, and the people are wonderful! Your trip sounds great, the Contemporary....SOOOO Disney! You'll love it.Everytime we see the Contemporary we know we're there!! See ya roun the boards!

Thanks everyone for the warm welcome.

Since we live about 2 1/2 hours south of WDW we're not telling our DS until we drive through those magic signs saying "You're In Disney." If we told him now he'd drive us crazy every day asking if today is the day. lol You know how 5 year olds are. lol

I'm not sure what to do or what to plan. We're getting there late on the 12th of December and driving back on the 15th of December. So I need to pack in as much as I can in a short amount of time. Does anyone know what time Downtown Disney closes? I was thinking of hitting that our first night there since we won't get up there until about 8 p.m.

Thanks again for the welcome.
