::MinnieMo Hello everyone. I'm a new user , and i'm going on my first Disney cruise, or any cruise for that matter, in March 2004. I'm very excited!! I will be going with my grandparents, parents, sister and her family and my husband and Daughter who is 18 months old.
I have been looking at a lot of threads and I have found them very interesting and informative. Thank you Experts!! I have learned a lot.
Would love to hear more from people who have taken small children and how it was for them. I am so glad they have the flounders Reef and that my husband and I will get a chance to spend some time alone.
Would love to hear from anyone and there experiences.(hopefully good).
Thanks in adance,

Don't know much - but just wanted to let you know that a friend of ours went - And was surprised and estatic that they brought a diaper genie to her room!!!! She didn't have to worry about having stinky diapers in the room! So if you don't get one, just request one!

Welcome to the DIS Kristy! Wish I could help you, but I don't have children (yet).

Just wanted to WELCOME you!

My kids were not that young when we cruised but I'm sure that someone will be able to help you out. I too just wanted to welcome you aboard. Happy Cruising!! I'm sure you will have a wonderful time!

Hi,

I just wanted to welcome you as well!!! You'll love the Disney Cruise Line!!! I don't have kids but I've heard that Flouders Reef is only open certain hours & space is limited. So ask when you board!! Have fun!!

Welcome Kristi!

DCL also has porta-cribs and bed rails available. Tell Disney or your TA to make sure to note it on your reservation if you need one. There are also strollers on board you can borrow for $100 deposit.

I have heard that since space is so limited in Flounder's Reef, make it one of your first stops when you board.

When are you sailing? We are sailing on the March 6th Eastern.

Have a great cruise,
Denae

Welcome Kristi,

We used Flounders Reef this past June for our DD. She was three months shy of three when we went. We had no problem getting times at Flounders, even though we got to the ship at 4:20 (long and frustrating story). The people in Flounder's were very nice and helpful. Because we got to the ship late, we were put on a waiting list for Palo. Since we didn't know the time for Palo right away we couldn't tell them a day or time for Flounder's reservations. They made some calls and got us a brunch ressie which is harder to get. I could kick myself now, but we turned down the brunch. A few hours later we got dinner ressie's and they made sure they could fit us in at flounder's. Since we didn't know when we would need them for the whole cruise, I would just call and see if they had any openings, they always did. This is not to say that every cruise is like this. I'm sure there are times when it is hard to get ressie's.

They also have times when parents can bring in the children and play with them so that they get used to the surroundings. I spent about two hours with DD so that she would be used to the playroom.

It was so sweet to walk in at night and see several counselor's rocking the babies in rocking chairs. Even my DD was being rocked to sleep, which is unusual for her.

I can't say enough about the counselors. They were all wonderful. I felt very comfortable leaving my DD with them.

Have a great cruise!!:wave2:

Thank you everybody for your warm welcome :sunny: I am happy to have joined these boards. So many friendly people!!

Thanks again everybody!!!!
Kristy :wave2:

First, welcome to Dis! The best place on the net for Disney info, IMHO.
I took my three (at the time) children on the Wonder. My youngest was then 14months. She was walking and talking, so she was able to express her opinion. She loved it. And the counselors just loved her. The one CM told me she had inquired with some of her friends who were servers if they had a little red head named Briesa at their table, she just adored her. We left her at Flounders for part of the sea day, so we could go to the adult pool, our two oldest went to clubs. We also had her there for our "adult" night at Palo, the last evening. When we went to pick her up, the CM's were holding some of the infants in their arms and rocking them, others were out for the count on mats, and some, like Briesa, were on mats watching a Disney film. It was such a lovely scene.
We didn't have a lot of trouble getting her in, they will waitlist you and call you if times are unavailable as people do cancel. They put nametags on your child's stuff and on their back (so they always get called by name- not kid or hey you) When the big kids are out of the Oceaneer's club, they take the little ones in to play. There are also free times at the club where you can take your child to see it. I was very, very, very pleased and not at all anxious leaving her, as I was sure I would be. I think you will find it wonderful! There is a minimum amount of hours they need to spend, and if you pick up early you still pay that min. hour amount. So worth it! We are taking our newest addition this April but we have grandma for babysitting, but we may use Flounders if she needs a break. LOL

Welcome! I was a first time cruiser just two weeks ago. You will love it!! Keep reading posts at this forum. There is an absolute wealth of information from so many wonderful people.

Welcome, Kristy! Everybody loves to answer questions on this board, no worries. I have nothing new to tell you except a suggestion. If you're trying to get some specific information, try putting it in your subject line. You'll get more answers that way. For example "Tell me about Flounders". There's probably a few more DIS'ers that have taken small children and would love to share, but who skipped this post. Diana
