Hi,

I am new here. We just returned from Disney World and we are looking into joining Disney Vacation Club. We are trying to decide if we should buy a new property through Disney - ACV and BLT are new - or buy a resale for SSR.

Any suggestions?

I would appreciate any advice you can offer. We want to make an informed decision.

Thanks

I think as membership continues to grow, it will become more and more important to own at the resort(s) that you really wish to stay at the most, so you can utilize the 11 month booking priority window.

If you really can't plan more than 7 months out, then look at the resort with the lowest maintenance fees that has an extended "end" date.

I just posted a long response to a similiar question on a thread a couple before yours. Feel free to read. Good luck with your decision!

Which park do you like to visit most? If it's Animal Kingdom, then AKV is probably your choice. If it's Magic Kingdom, then BLT would work well.

As for me, I prefer to get away from things a bit, so AKV and OKW are my home resorts. You do not HAVE to only buy at the present ones. Your sales guide wont tell you, but you CAN buy any of the other resorts direct from Disney as well as through resale companies. I would pick the resort you think you will like to stay at most often, since that is where you will be able to make your 11 month booking window. If you don't care which resort, then go for whatever is cheapest to buy, cheapest to stay at, or cheapest dues.

Totally agree with Diane above. You should look for:

1. Either resort (through resale if necessary) that you really want to stay at.
2. Do your homework, compare prices and incentives, and look at annual due fees as they will be much more expensive in the long haul.

Good luck with your decision!

All the above posts hit the nail on he head. Just my 2 cents, for us we bought sight unseen with 1 major criteria. We want to be able to walk, boat, or monorail to a park. Since the monorail DVC didn't exist when we bought that was out, the boat left us with VWL, BWV, BCV. After a 5 minute debate with the DW we settle on BWV so we could walk or take a boat to 2 parks as well as having the Boardwalk show and activies. For us BWV was a home run and we have never regretted it. Good luck on your quest......

Rent where you want to buy and buy where you love to rent.

Some folks have expressed regret after spending several thousands of dollars.

You wouldn't buy a cow without checking it out first. A DVC contract should be no different. :thumbsup2

Definately reading the info on the Disboards is helpful. We are definately going to buy into DVC. I am hoping in 2009 and most likely on a Resale. I will keep lurking and reading getting myself educated about DVC.

I have learned quite a bit on here. Especially the important fact that you can plan your trip 11 mos out with your "Home" Resort and only 7 months out at another resort, which is something the DVC reps don't tell you during your tour. My tour guide made it sound like you could choose any resort at anytime without a problem, but I am now finding out that is not true.

Thanks for everyone's info it is definately great appreciated for us DVC newbies!!! :thumbsup2

Thanks for all the great advice. We are talking every night about what resort we want - we keep going back and forth. They all have their perks!

Hopefully we will come to a decision soon.
