We're going camping with the in-laws and I need to find a good quiet campground. My FIL loves to fish so a lake would be good and we all HATE traffic noise so some place off of a side or back road would be perfect.

I've found some nice campgrounds but I'm still unsure as to which region to go to. Sightseeing is not our top priority, but peace and quiet is. Any suggestions?

have you tried the New Hampshire Campground Owners Association website?..it has all the different regions of NH and has a lot of information. I live in NH and will help you with any more questions you have that the website doesnt have your answers to. :) heres the link to the website.. www.ucampnh.com

Thanks for the link! Looks like I have a lot of reading to do! How's the Lake region? I figure that would be the best chance for finding a campground with good fishing.

the lakes region is a very good place to go, it has good fishing, and is popular to out of staters as well as people who live in NH (like me lol :teeth: )

I think we'll look for a site there! The lakes region looks very pretty!

I will second the vote for Danforth bay. I have never been there personally (we don't camp), but I have friends who go every year. And she is VERY particular, so I'm sure if the place is up to her standards it would be great! She's a fellow Dis-er, so if I talk to her over the weekend I'll ask her to come over and post some info.......P

That would be great! thank you very much! Could you ask her if it's quiet, as in no traffic noise? Do they have waterfront sites that are not seasonal? Are they wooded and big or open and close together? Thank you so much!

I recommend checking out some of the campgrounds in the White Mountain National Forest and also some of the NH State Parks. I personally have camped at White Lake State Park and at Russell Pond Campground and found both satisfactory. They aren't fancy but are pretty peaceful.

I'm sure you'll be able to find somewhere that meets your criteria. Enjoy your peaceful camping in great NH!

I'd go with the White Mountain National Forest. I've never camped, but we always spent summer vacations up there as a kid to go to Santa's Village and Story Land. There are lots of campsites in Lincoln and around the Kancamangus Highway. If you go there, check out the Flume gorge and the Polar Caves while you're there. They're awesome.

Send a PM to Boo'sMom, she' very knowledgeable about her home state of NH.

I live in the Mt Washington Vallery, and there are lots of great campgrounds in my neck of the woods. I'm not much of a fisherman, so can't advise you there, but you'll find a million things to do here in the Valley. You can hike til your boots fall off, shop til you drop, swim in pristine rivers, kayak or canoe on same. The possibilities are really endless. I feel so lucky to live in such a wonderful place and try to enjoy everything it has to offer. PM me for details or questions.
Good luck!

this is my area!!
We really enjoy Moosehillock Campground

It's a really nice area. The Lakes Region is really nice too!
Or there is this one:

this is in Jefferson, NH where I grew up. Close to Santa's Village and about 1 hour and 45 minutes to Pittsburg where you are just about guaranteed to see a moose. If you stay in the Lincoln area one of my dh's friends does a Moose Tour every evening.

MY DH AND DS (8 & 9) CAMP EVERY YEAR IN NORTH CONWAY SACCO RIVER AT THE WHITE MOUNTAINS NATIONAL PARK CAMPGROUND. IT'S VERY NICE THERE ARE A LOT OF DIFFERENT PLACES TO CAMP IN THAT AREA, AND LOTS TO DO OFF THE CAMPSITE.
;) UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCE WILL I SLEEP IN A TENT, SO I STAY AT A NICE HOTEL IN TOWN IN NORTH CONWAY IN THE HEART OF THE OUTLET SHOPPING REGION. I SPEND MY MORNINGS SHOPPING AND ENJOYING REAL FOOD, AND THE AFTERNOONS AT THE CAMPGROUND WITH CRAZY FAMILY. I RETURN TO MY HOTEL AROUND 10PM TO SLEEP IN COMFORT.
EVERYONE IS HAPPY :yay:
IT'S A GREAT AREA NEAR THE OLD MAN IN THE MOUNTAIN LOTS OF SCENERY AND LOTS OF THINGS TO DO BOTH OUTSIDE AND INSIDE IF THE WEATHER DOES NOT COOPERATE.
GOOD LUCK WITH YOUR CHOICE

I've camped and fished in quite a few places in NH. I'd recommend the White Mountain National Forest, or the Great North Woods if you're looking for something truly quiet. There's some great fishing up there

Lake Winnepesaukee is very pretty, and does have some good fishing, but depending how quiet you want to be, it can get pretty busy. There are always a ton of boats on the lake. Squam Lake is very pretty, and much less busy than Winnepesaukee.

Good luck - you'll have a great time

Jen
