New golf cart rules, you need insurance if not using disney carts!

My understanding is that the cart has to have the insurance, not me. The policy he has and accepted at other campgrounds clearly show the vin/serial number of the car. I am not sure I have to be a name driver on the policy. Now that you bring it up I may have him call his agent and see if it makes sense for me to be a named covered driver for the policy.

How will proof of insurance work for a borrowed cart? Will you get it on your policy or will your friend have to get it on his? And if it's in your friend's name, will Disney accept that or will they want something showing that you are 'the insured'?
I have an insurance card just like the cars that I keep in the cart.
My wife and I are both listed as drivers.

My curiosity was for a person who doesn't own the cart. Like for example, I borrowed your cart and towed it to FtW I wouldn't have anything showing that I was insured driving it. Your policy wouldn't show me as insured and my policy probably wouldn't issue me a letter since the cart doesn't belong to me.

StormyCA You a can Have your Insurance Company write a Rider Policy to cover you for this. It may take some doing but they will do it for a price.

Good to know! I figured they wouldn't underwrite for anything that I didn't actually own.

@StormyCA I have yet to have an insurance company ask me for proof of ownership before insuring a vin number I just gave them over the phone. Pretty sure I could do that with a golf cart policy too since there are not titles in most states.

A lot easier and less expensive option is to bring and use a bicycle (to my knowledge, Fort Wilderness does not allow e-bikes, never could fathom the reason for this) to get around the campground, plus it is a lot easier to store and park. Plus, if you have a motorhome, it will allow the hitch to be used to bring a toad vehicle instead of a golf cart, which would allow more freedom to go to places off the Disney property without having to close camp and drive the entire motorhome (which I don't find practical unless your motorhome is a Class B motorhome) and save tons of money in golf cart rental fees.

Yes bikes are smaller, yet it's no less of a hassle to bring. And if you have a family bringing 4-5 bikes, it is no less of a challenge then bringing a golf cart. We have gone with and without a golf cart. Which if you are gone all day really doesnt matter. However, if you spend mornings or afternoons tooling around the campground then you find it a nice convenience. Many want a golf cart and choose not to pay the Disney prices. It was careless operators causing the problem, not the carts themselves, which is why much of these changers came about from WDW. Best part is you are welcome to not have a cart, noone is forcing you to do this.

I'm bringing my bike (as I am basically "solo"..one dog and son coming to stay one night from school), but rented cart for 2 days to try it out for once for fun. Not buying park tix, so Disney gets my extra spend this way this time.....

Or you can use a pickup truck as your towed, and haul the cart in the bed of the truck... :)
This is really the best idea. This way you can have both a towed for trips off the Disney property and a golf cart to get around Fort Wilderness. I use my GMC Canyon as a towed vehicle and the bed is a major advantage since it can be used for additional storage. I have seen a motorhome towing a pickup truck with an ATV, four wheeler, dirtbikes, motorcycle, or even a golf cart in the bed, etc.

Plus, the truck bed can be used for both bicycles (if you enjoy going for a family bicycle ride) and a golf cart to keep the family together when traveling within Fort Wilderness as well as additional storage as well as the truck if you want to go to John F Kennedy Space Center, Seaworld, Universal Studios, or somewhere else in Orlando.

Not sure I'd put the boat after the golf cart, but maybe it's easier to launch the boat that way. :lmao:

If it tows, it goes!

I don’t believe pulling a boat behind a golf cart would work very well. I would just put the golf cart in the bed of the truck, and hitch the boat behind the trailer, then once you get to the campsite, unhitch and set up the travel trailer at the campsite, unload the golf cart, then hitch the boat to the truck and use the truck to launch the boat, then go fishing, boat riding, water skiing, etc.
